Not...quite. Right now, definitive statements about Carver are pretty murky but the devs did say that how one particular previewer experienced things won't necessarily happen in everyone's game. On the other hand, a few people who played the demo said they didn't see how Carver could have survived. So, as I said, it's murky, and of course some people may prefer that it stay murky.
