For a person who really likes photography as oppose to painting, I would have to say Norman Rockwell. When I go into a buffet or "Elmer's" I enjoy seeing his classic American paintings depicting life during the first half of the century. Each picture is interesting and has a subtle hint of humor to it. They keep you busy while waiting for your food.
What say you?

Ooh! William Turner is one of my favorites as well.
The first painting I saw by him really made me want to look for more. I still really like that one:

The name of the painting, in all it's brevity:
"Snow Storm - Steam Boat off a Harbour's Mouth Making Signals in Shallow Water and Going by the Lead"
A contemporary artist that I really like is Phill Hansen:

I always loved Van Gogh myself. More precisely, that field painting (don't know the name, sorry!) Just brilliant.

Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988), famous for his paintings of the streets of Hanoi:

Tran Van Can (1910-1994). This is a portrait of his young niece, Thuy:

I wanted to get a poster of this but it was selling for USD$30 in the Vietnamese Fine Arts Museum shop. Ugh.

I truly know very little of painters and sculptures, but J. K. Rowling is my favorite artist. What's wrong with musicians and writers?

I'd have to say that Alphonse Mucha is one of my favorite artists of all time. While the brunt of his print work was commercially based he also did some really amazing stained glass and jewelry work as well. I got to see his museum in Prague last summer and it was really amazing to see all of his work in person.
Uh... otherwise you can't go wrong with Michelangelo. While his paintings are wonderful it's really his sculpture work that stands out. I've never had any piece of art take my breath away like the David. Pictures really don't do them justice though.
