I agree with this

I too agree. ME3 needs way more options. And make LI options people not just in the squad, but people you meet outside the Normandy.

I REALLY agree with this.  I kind of dislike that your LI options have to be squad members, having them be NPCs outside of the squad (and not even on the Normandy or whatever its equvilant will be) would be a welcome change of pace.

I really would prefer if Bioware did not go down the route of new squadmate recruitment again. It would be like ME2 all over again and for me that translates into a lack of creativity and basically a rerun. I think there's far too much potential to move the story furthur with the characters we've already accumulated during the past two games

I think if a player's decision making caused the death of one or more squadmates then that players import should reflect that and Bioware shouldn't bail that player out by offering new recruits, anyway what kind of character could a player choose whose decisions cause their demise ? I don't think poor leaders attract a lot of followers.

I'd like to see the existing characters develop their own story arc with more depth because they all could and given the gravity of the overall impending threat from the Reapers would any of them who know the stakes just pack up and go ?

I'm not against meeting new characters as maybe allies with their own ships and resources who may join Shepard on missions but I think the existing crew should remain.

What if it was more like ME 1 or Dragon Age or other games of that nature where you just picked up Team Members as you were going along. Or say you were assigned a small set depending on who you work for/with in ME 3

Besides new squadmates = new story threads

I mean look at it this way, human squadmates alone

We had the Alliance Take in ME 1
In ME 2 we had the Cerberus take, a mercenary take, and somewhat of a criminal take but that could have been done better.

Why not have someone from Earth in ME 3?  Or a Terra Firma take?

Thats human alone, we have not even seen a Batarian squadmate, much less opposing genders for a Turian or Krogan.

How about having squadmates based on your allignment?

Paragons can't possibly choose the same squadmates as Renegades (to keep or recruit).

They DID say ME3 would have loads more game changing things from imported characters. I'm hoping this also includes "If you killed him off somehow, he will not be a squadmate but he is possible if you saved him."

I think Ashley/Kaiden could return only if :

- you dont romance another LI in ME2;

- not working for Cerberus no more (assuming ME 3 will have the choose-option between Alliance - Cerberus.

David Anderson and Kahlee Sanders could have a role but not as squadmates:

- Sanders working togehter with Mordin on the Ship;

- Anderson as officer on the Normandy (he did left Citadel Politician in ME Retribution).

Assuming you still dig with Cerberus:

- I am hoping Kai Leng (ME Retribution) would get an oppurtunaty..... Like to see how that ends wiht David Anderson....

i like the idea of having a set number of slots with the option to recruit new squaddies or re-recruit ME1/2 squaddies

/Agree. Picking up new squaddies during main quest missions would be suitable (like when Legion was picked up during the reaper IFF mission in ME2). I am looking forward to meeting new squaddies in ME3. Hopefully Bioware will be able to strike a balance between old and new squad members to keep everyone happy.

Just to clarify: Liara is, as of right now, the only squaddie who can't die at some point. Everyone else can die. The logic of "well, they can die so they won't be back" relegates Liara as your only squad member who can return. Have fun >< (And I do like Liara, I just think the logic is fail.)

And she's been relegated (most likley) to eternal NPC status as the Shadow Broker.  I would think that doesn't bode well for those who actually can die and their chances of returning as anything more than cameo/npc appearances.

It would be a huge pain in the ass to recruit new squadmembers in the final part of the trilogy (especially after I solved all their daddy issues in two). And any new characters are going to feel like they got hardly any character development due to being introduced so late in the series.

For me, I do want to see new possible squad members, but on most of my playthoughs none of my squadmates died unless I purposely killed those squadmates (for renegade purposes). It would be my same grip if they blow up the Normandy...again. I don't want to see Normandy SR-3 I want the SR-2. Come on I pissed off TIM at the end of the sucide mission and blew up the Collector Base. TIM ain't going to build me a SR-3.

I don't like the idea of having slots. Don't really see the upside.

I like the idea of having say 30, just an example, with 15 slots...I dunno I feel like i'm more in control of who i'm relying instead of being told my line up for the final battle.

Well so far we have had 18 squadmates, and I could guess ME3 would have 7 new ones. That would make a nice 25 total options. Based on that I'd hope for up to 15 slots (I can pick less, but 2 is minimum). Though what really prevents me from having even 50 squadmates?

That's why I'd hope every character had 2 possible places to be (aside being dead): In my squad or having a role in the story (Tali helping out quarians, Mordin working on you-know-what experiments...). So if I recruit everyone then the chances of a success decrease (it should be clearly stated when you're recruiting them so players don't realize it too late). It would promote picking only the ones I really want and need in my team and add replayability to see how not recruiting people affects the game

The problem is that the ME3 newcomers must be able to complete the game so having the old people alive can't have too much consequence.

The co-ordinates to the Reaper homeworld are contained within the notes.

:P

I really hope Bailey returns in Mass Effect 3. Hogan did an amazing job voicing him, and was a fantastic actor as Saul Tigh.

The more squadmembers you have the less dialog and development they are going to get over the course of the game. 12 squadmembers is already pushing it.

Slots are not a good idea, because you still have to develop all the squad members, but the player can only access few of them. Sure fans who replay the game dozens of times get a bonus, but the majority of players play a game once or twice and for those such a feature is wasted. For the same reason most, if not all ME2 crew will not come back (fairness is not an argument here if some of the LIs would return and others not, see DA romance discussions). It is a lot easier to write say dialog for Tali if she is called back to the Flotilla (she even tells you that this can happen even if she is exiled) and have a Shepard/Tali reunion in the epilogue. This also means that she is easier to replace and that there can be more severe consequences to her death than just missing out on a squadmate, you did not care about in the first place (otherwise she would hardly end up dead)

Also the squadsize should be reduced again. I understand that the mechanics of the suicide mission required the existence of at least two competent and some incompetent specialists to give the player both choice and consequence. But the number of squadmates reduced the dialog every squadmate had outside of their own private mission.
