i would love new squadmates and to have at least as many as we did in ME2 i liked the big squad.

i really want new members we havnt had mainly aliens cause the human ones bore me.

batarian would be cool i have a feeling its coming

i want legion lol i like him

a yagh would be cool

some of the new races we only hear about and never see (which is somewhat annoying)

i think a female turian, salarian, krogan,(maybe a drell) or something would be cool since weve only been aloud to meet males of said species

i hope that people have a cool background like the ones in ME2. i kinda liked having squad members who had cool titles (i.e. best thief, best assassin, most powerful krogan, most advanced geth) kinda made me a little more proud to have them. especially since i well all of us i guess are the best spectres ever :)

I don't so much care for new squadmates as long as all surviving squad members from BOTH ME1 and ME2 are back as squad members. That means all 12 from ME2 plus Ashley, Liara and Wrex.

Oh right, I counted wrong when I said 12 from ME2 plus 6 from ME1. That actually makes 16 individuals. So perhaps ME3 could have 4 (5 if excluding Virmire victim, you still need to record the dialogue though) brand new squadmates to make a nice total of 20.

In reality no one would get stuck with 4 though because atleast Ash/Kaidan and Liara (plus atleast 2 from ME2) are alive even for newcomers. At the other end it sounds 20 (19) is a number you could actually fit in your ship.

All of the 20 should still have 2 places where they could be: In your ship and team, or working in the background. I really hope I can make a small dream team of mine and let the ones left over contribute to our cause in other ways (All of them should have a major impact on the story: Tali works with quarians, Mordin does research about "it", Thane knows Drell and Hanar, Ash/Kaidan/Miranda/Jacob know their organizations, even Jack could be a big help on battlefield or lead the criminal faction... Logically this also means Liara could leave her new job, but it would harm the mission a bit just like with everyone else)

So the 4 new ones: Batarian, Vorcha, the required human (or 2) and perhaps Prothean. The unknown scum we need in the war too. Their dialogue would also give more info about the races.

Oh and the possibilities of DLC. Personally I hope it gives us female turians/salarians/krogan and male quarians etc squadmates. because I don't care about having them. I rather have the old squad and new races for the main game. That only leaves the problem with Shiala, Parasini, Bailey, Reegar... who could perhaps be LIs and useful squadmates. Personally I'm fine if they're just romancable npcs like Kelly (Perhaps romancing each of them could open a small home in Feros, Illium, Citadel, Migrant Fleet...)

Do you think we will see the return of the team we had in ME1 and ME2? (maybe depend on your action in ME2 some party members will not return as your squadmates but as a cameo);and Mass Effect 3 would allow up to 20 squadmates on 3 discs!! This is my ME3 team;

Wrex/Wreav/Nex/Grunt (only one of them/also depend on your Wrex ME1 action)
Garrus (romance interest)
Tali (romance interest)
Kal' Reegar (the male quarian/new romance interest)
Ashley or Kaiden (depend on your action in ME1/romance interest)
Samara (new romance interest for both female and male Shepard)
Miranda (romance interest)
Legion
Jacob (romance interest)
Mordin
Batha (the asari scientist)
Gianna Parasini (new romance interest)
Derek Izunami (Jacob's former officer)
Unknown female turian (new romance interest, this would be funny if it might end up being Garrus's sister! LOL!)
Unknown Prothean/Collector (back on Ilos or travel to any Prothean worlds)
Unknown raloi
Unknown batarian (DLC party member)
Unknown vorcha (DLC party member)
Unknown drell (DLC party member)
Hendel Mitra (DLC party member)

Also click the Poll in my sig and vote for your ME3 squadmates!

I'm really hoping for a possibility of atleast 18 squadmates w/o DLC (Hope for atleast 2 more through DLC.)

14 spots for your old squad:

-Ashley/Kaidan (Story Driven, can take em or have them help at the end. LI.)

-Wrex (Story Driven. Only if not dead, can leave him, either way he calls in a Krogan army.)

--------------------------------------------------------Mass Effect 2-----------------(Only available if not dead.)----------

-Tali (Starting Member, unless dead, LI.)

-Garrus (Story Driven. LI.)

-Thane (Side Mission, if dead his son comes with. LI)

-Grunt (Starting Member, unless dead.)

-Kasumi (Side Mission. LI.)

-Zaeed (Side Mission.)

-Samara (Story Driven. LI.)

-Jack (Side Mission. LI.)

-Jacob (Story Driven. LI.)

-Miranda (Side Mission. LI.)

-Mordin (Story Driven.)

-Legion (Side Mission.)

That leaves 8 story driven old character, the others are optional. The 4 remaining are all story driven leaving to 12 story driven squad mates in all, with no deaths (Like ME2.) IF all squadmates dies in ME2 then you're given a Vanguard and an Infiltrator from the Normandy crew, these are temporary and die before meeting the first two new squadmates.

New Squad:

Batarian (LI.)

Raloi female (Early squadmate, second you find. LI.)

Human male (Early squadmate, first you find. LI.)

Krogan female (LI. Yes I said it, LOVE INTEREST!)

Now i'm expecting ATLEAST 2 from DLC (Although I would love more...)

This is my wishlist for ME3 squadmates. You're probably going to as "Hey tnfstc! Where's Liara?!" and to that I answer "She's still a LI, but play Lair of the Shadow Broker to figure out why she's "tied up"... However she will still help you in the last mission."

how can a brand new squadmate add much in way of substantial story telling unless it is a previously introduced character - ie aria or shiala?

How can the ones already in the squad ? They all have lesser ties to the reapers than Sheppard, know less about the reapers than Sheppard, and have all done nothing for months except standing around the Normandy or trail behind Sheppard on a mission. Not to mention that all of them can be dead and therefore cannot feature in a prominent way, unless there is also a replacement. Needing a replacement however leads to the fact that you can only make old squad mates available in a carefully controlled environment, that is to say as either NPCs like Wrex in ME2, or as temporary companions like Liara in Shadow Broker.

If I could decide I would make a new squad with about 8 completely new people, and then have side missions similar to Liara´s in the DLC for the rest of the LIs.Like say Tali, if alive, returns to the Flotilla because of the Geth crisis, during ME3 Sheppard gets contacted by Tali/another Quarian to help the Flotilla. If Tali is alive she joins the squad for the duration of the mission, after the mission Sheppard has the opportunity to affirm the relationship if he romanced her in ME2 but Tali remains with the Flotilla until the epilogue. Similar things can be done for all of the LIs.
I want less full squad members because in ME2 it was already noticeable how the quality of the NPCs suffered. Outside their own little bubbles consisting of recruitment, loyalty and two to three conversations on board of the ship all the companions were pretty much mute. I prefer the style that DA and to a lesser extent ME1 had where the companions also talked with each other during exploration. This is however hardly possible even with a smaller squad because the smaller team size allows you only to hear only one banter out of 66 (in ME2, 15 in ME1) while the three man team you have in DA allows to hear three  banters out of 36 possibilities.

The ties to the reapers of the previous characters isn't the big deal. We're in the final episode of the trilogy, why would you introduce new squad members, who will need more development and thus space, when you already  have 18 characters to choose from that have all been developed to some degree?

The existing squadmates are already developed. Short of the VS and Liara they also have nothing intresting left to say or do you want dialog like this : "Sheppard remember last time you helped me bond with my long lost relative, what I forgot to mention then is that I have this other long lost relative. Could you help me dealing with them."
The existing crew runs out of dialog two talks after their loyality missions. do you want a game in which everytime you try to talk with one of your crew mates they just reply :"Go away, I am busy:" ? If the crew sticks with Sheppard they have nothing new to learn and therefore nothing interesting to talk about.
Introducing new crewmembers gives the players the option to expirience the universe from a new point of view and to meet new people. Hudson himself in an interview said that one of the good thing about companions is meeting new ones and getting to know them. Also don´t forget everyone can be dead and even some of the surviviors tell you that they will not stay after the suicide mission, so you need at least some new team mates to fill the possible void.
And meeting old crew mates as NPCs on planets allows you to learn other sides of them. E.g. Jack gets cold feet (even if romanced) and leaves the Ship. She gets involded is some kind of mess like joining a biotic extremist group and needs Sheppard´s help to get out of it (if Jack is dead the whole mission becomes unavailable). Reuniting with her there is far more emotionally intense (and a lot easier to produce) than her just sitting on her bed in the engine room the entire game.

That's why they don't need as much dialogue. I know Garrus well enough and he could really only comment how we are doing. They don't need to reveal huge secrets about their life anymore, just make them feel alive.

Not to mention every squadmate will run out of things to talk about. Even ME1 didn't have that much dialogue other than flirting LIs and hearing others codex about their races. The thing to solve is how to not gamers feel awkward with the conclusion (Because the "Go away I'm calibrating" sure is)

Like I said earlier, I'd hope they'd include 4 or 5 new squadmates (plus Ash/Kaidan & Liara (and 2 from ME2)available to everyone). That's a big enough team for newcomers and total failers. Those new squadmates should present new races (Batarians, Vorcha, even Prothean) who can have fresh views. However, I will be bummed if I can't choose my team even for the most important mission ever.

About your last point: Those aren't the only options. In my version squadmates could be either in your team or working in the background as NPCs. I don't think any of the people who said they'll leave understood the situation - they will all die if reapers win so I'd say they could be persuaded to stay.

Realistically though I'm sure you're right Bioware goes that way and focuses on new squaddies making the old ones cameos (with 1 or 2 old squaddies I don't necessarily want in my dream team). It's the easy way.

On the official ME2 website, there are still 2 'classified' squad bios yet to be named. Introducing new or old squad mates as part of one of the 'bridging' DLC perhaps?

Those two missing bios were Archangel(Garrus) and Legion

Edited to add:  I actually liked Ashley my second play through of ME1 and it sucked that she had to die on Virmire.  I think Bioware failed on that one.  My son doesn't want to face Virmire because he likes both Kaidan and Ash and he has to let one of them die.  BTW, he's 14 and is allowed to play mature games.  LOL, we always have something to talk about.

Part of the power of the games is forcing you to make a hard choice in which there is no right answer. Kaidan or Ashley was one of the most emotional moments of gaming for me. If there were no stakes, playing the game wouldn't be intense at all.

Yagh squadmate! Having some big uber beast that can hurl metal desks around would be pretty badass. They're probably too big though. Hmm, Batarian and possibly Raloi squadmates? Those would be interesting.

How about an elcor???

Imho, the simplest way to balance it for new and imported characters would be this:

- All old squadmates can be recruited, and a few new ones. You must select which of them to pick up.
- For an imported character, dead squadmates are dead (really?!) and can't be recruited.
- For a new character, there will be certain squadmates which survived (presumably the more 'important' ones).
This would be similar to how some ME1 choices were predetermined for new ME2 characters.
- Your new team will have a limited number of slots, around 8. This means you can't recruit everyone, be selective.

This way, imported characters will have a couple of extra options compared to new characters... a nice bonus, while not handicapping new players. All potential squadmates should have a considerable amount of interaction, including dialogue and potentially missions, even if you don't recruit them for your team. For the main storyline missions, you're limited to the squadmates who you have specifically recruited.

ooh, i like this concept! i think this makes the most sense to deal with squad deaths and would actually let you reject some possible squaddies that dont mesh with your shepards ideals. like paragon shep wouldnt want to bust a psychotic killer out of prison, and renegade shep wouldnt want a justicar to see his actions and threaten to kill him later... ^_^

- A female turian spectre. Just because.
- Lemm
- Kal'Reegar
- Anderson, maybe.

I don't want Wrex on the team - I expect to see him leading the mighty krogan empire in an epic battle at some point.

Who is Lemm? And I don't want another theiving quarian on my ship.
As much as I respect Anderson, he is a bit old, he would do better commanding ships than next to Shepard with an assalt rifle.

What you say about Wrex makes sense, but at some mission he should be on your team for old times sake.
