Ok.  I purchased ME2 and then went back and got ME1 because I liked ME 2 so much and I was surprised at how many good things from the first game that were dropped from the 2nd one.  This is my likes and disklikes from playing ME1 and ME2.

Likes:
  • The way that the continuity was continued from ME1 to ME2.  Lots of different tweaks that had to be accounted for. Whether it was Urdnot Wrex on Tuchanka or Kaiden/Ashley or even Captain Anderson.
  • I liked the changes to the surveying of planets.  Had the feel of "technological advances" and cut down on tedious driving around in the MAKO to find things.
  • The general flow of the game.
  • Melee attacks having their own key.
  • I liked the simplification of the resources.
  • Once I figured out how, I liked being able to get out of the MAKO.
  • The dynamic ways you can develop Shephard.
  • The improvements in the HUD
Dislikes:
  • I disliked the "simplification" of the skills from ME1 to ME2.  I felt that this hindered the game play.
  • I disliked the changes in the weaponry and armor from ME1 to ME2. This seemed like a significant step backwards in the playability..  It also goes against the idea of "technological advances". I'd rather have used the resources to provide a "company" with the ability to improve their weapons/armor than be limited to basically one or 2 suits.
  • I disliked the level limits in both.  What was the point?  Why stop counting the experience earned?
  • Why make some systems off limits in ME2 such as ILOS?
  • The fact that I lost the "retirement" home that I earned in ME1.  Would have been nice to be able to go back to it.
  • Why eliminate the key stroke commands for things like the Codex and Journal?
  • I didn't like the limitation of having to be stuck with certain weapons after a mission started.
  • The re-mapping of the major action keys.  This is something that shouldn't have been done.
  • Taking out the ability to crouch without having to be behind a box/obstacle.  It takes away from the playability.
  • Taking away the ability to sell things really stunk.
Things I'd like to see in ME3:
  • A Liara (ShadowBroker) / Illusive Man showdown
  • A return of a commerce system.
  • A better research/equipment improvement system for armor and weapons. (See MOO3)
  • Decisions having greater impact (Team members leaving/turning on you/Returning / Tech available)
  • Better continuation of accomplishments/levels attained / difficulty of game.
  • Elimination of the "Player mysteriously floating" issue
  • More interaction with races like the Battarians and Hanar
  • The opening of more systems and system/Race related missions.  IE:  Turians contact you for help on internal strife.  Or Feros contacts you because of Pirate issue.  And doing/not doing missions having impact on overall mission.
