Someone in a different thread stated me would hold off buying  DA 2 until the UE comes out.  IMO, that is just crazy, I seriously doubt anyone would do that, especially since it is not a guarantee. Me, I will be buying the game, but I will be buying the Collectors Edition of DAO2. I only hope the DAO2 CE is as great as the DAO CE was. I'm talking about the Hardcover Guide, The extra in game items that came with it, plus the Extra DVD on the making of plus more. IMO, The DAO CE was the BEST CE I have ever had for a game, well ME2 was about tie with it, but looking back, it was in a class of its own and I hope they repeat it....................

So, with all of  that being said, has anyone heard any one heard from a reliable source that DA 2 will be launched with the Collectors Edition?  Also, any word on the Hard Cover Guide Book, or any word on the inclusion of powerful trinkets?  If there is a link, could someone include it please..................

Thanks All  ~~  Gunny:whistle:

Bioware, I believe, has done CEs their releases for quite a long time now. JE had a CE, ME1/ME2 had CEs, DA:O had a CE (obviously). I see no reason why they wouldn't have a CE for DA2. That's also what I'm waiting on before pre-ordering.

I have actually already put some money down on dragon age 2 standard edition and told my local gamestop that I want to switch the amount on it over to the collectors edition when it comes out. This way I am still able to start paying what I can or want on the game while I wait for them to release info for the collector edition.

I don't see the point of pre-ordering. I'll buy the CE if it contains some goody I actually want, but otherwise I generally just wait for release and then buy the regular version.

As it happens, I did buy the CE for ME2, but I did that because when I went to buy it the CE was on sale for less than the standard edition. So buying the CE saved me money (and then I foollishly flipped through the art book and ran into spoilers).

even if Bioware didn't want to release a CE (which would never happen), EA sure as hell would insist.

Thats why I have not pre-ordered as well. But as far as waiting for it, they have always, thus far anyway, released the CE and the standard editions on the same day. Heck depending on who you order it from, you could get it a day or so prior to the actual release date, at least they did when DAO CE was released. YES, I will certainly be looking and grabbing the CE as soon as it is announce. Hopefully, they will do it in the same method they used for DAO. The hardcover Guide is just beautiful. I hope that we get this time around, what the folks across the pond from the US got when they purchased the CE edition. We got a plastic box, nothing special there, but they got a "TIN" and from what I remember it was quite nice. So my wishful CE would contain the following:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Posted Image
1. The Game CE version (Includes unlocked items not found in the standard edition, with a special vendor who sells unique gear to CE customers, but basic to standard players).
2. Additional Disc's on the making of and other assorted video goodies
3. The map (Maybe a leather sorta texture vs the cloth style. The cloth style is nice, but leather would be way better
4. Some game artifacts in the box (necklace, ring, magical item, etc..)
5. Some game items that come with a special release code
6. Hard cover Game Guide with additional pictures and info. Approximately 100-200 extra pages above and beyond the standard guide
7. A picture of one of the Characters in the game, suitable for framing (Comes rolled in a hard tube)
8. A special CE icon to designate you have the CE version in the forums. I am talking about the icon that currently is displayed under your characters picture in the forums now. But instead of the one everyone gets, have a special one for the CE folks
9.  A Special CE Tin designed large enough so the Hard Cover Guide could fit inside it, or a special shelving style idea that is located under the Tin Box so you can slide the Guide into the shelf for storage.  I would prefer it to be in the box, if possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Posted Image

Can anyone think of anything else they would like to see, or not see? Hopefully the folks at BioWare will see this thread and put some (or a lot) of our suggestions in action. One can always have the wishful thinking and hopes, right... Posted Image

Well, I always get the CE if it's a game I'm reeeeeally interested in AND if it has enough goodies to make it worthwhile. Don't think I've seen any preorder links for the CE version as yet, but it's probable that BW will create a collector's edition like they have for their other games.

All of the above might be a bit much, but some I could see.

What I'd like would be a Dragon Age themed bookend. Maybe a resin cast, as pewter might get too heavy. Something you can append to your eventual Dragon Age collection on your shelf, assuming you keep your game boxes in one.

A steelbook design that matches the look of DA:O. I like my series to have a homogenuous look.

A leather or parchment map would be much nicer than the fraying cloth one for certain. The quality of the print was nice, but the cloth wasn't, alas.

Don't much care for in-game items personally. Especially if the game turns out to be moddable. Unless any in-game items came with a unique design that wasn't repeated in the game (like the Blood Dragon Armor, even if it was ugly as sin, and unlike Bergen's Honor) or added to the overall story via Codex entries or a subquest. Generally, I'd prefer extra content of any sort to bells and whistles.

I don't think that Bioware will announce with the Collector's Edition until their promotion for Signature ends. I can only hope that the CE will have what the signature does, but I doubt it. But since it's mostly just in game stuff, I don't think that those who don't get signature will be missing out on much except for one character.

...which will probably be made available by the modding communities.

And Gunny, 6 is probably unlikely; a guide like that will only have 10 or 15 extra pages tops. Not a hundred. and even then, the extra pages would just be art and other random stuff, like they did for the ME2 guide.

Personally, in CEs I always like the art books; It's interesting how characters go from initial designs to final drafts, which may not even look like how they began. I hope that they include one with the game. Also, hard copy soundtracks. I'm really disappointed by the fact that Bioware has yet to come out with a hard copy version of their ME2 and DA:O. Maybe this is just me, but I want to be able to have a copy sitting on my shelf, officially made rather than just crudely burned after purchasing (which may or may not be legal, I'm not sure myself.)

Yeah, I think the signature edition might be the collector's edition, I am not sure we will get a special thick case with a map type edition this time, which sucks.

They've already stated that the SE is the same as the CE. To me, it makes little sense, though, since the SE doesn't have any physical swag in it, just digital add-ons to the game. Collector's Editions are for collectors, but if there's nothing to collect than it's not a CE. DA:O's CE was about as limited as you can get while still being called a CE in terms of physical items.

Which is why they call it the Signature Edition, I guess. Maybe they discovered that people don't care for the physical stuff as much as the digital add-ons to make their game "complete". I'm the odd one out, I guess, with everything from Oblivion's coin, NWN rings, BioShock Big Daddy, Fallout3 bobblehead, and Civ5 figurines scattered around my desk. I like that stuff, and it remains long after the games are a memory.

I totally agree with you, it is the physical things that make a CE so special and desired.  Heck the digital stuff can be added on at any time, the DLC's are a good example of adding on what and when they want.  I cannot imagine their line of thinking, where they decided to eliminate the physical attributes of the CE..  It must be a $$$ thing, but to my recollection, the CE version of DAO sold very well and were scooped up rather quickly.

Anyway, does anyone know if there will be a CE (Hardcover version) of the Gaming Guide as they did with DAO?  That guide was just awesome, not to mention all of the extra content that came with it and brought so much back story to the game.  I surly hope they decide to do a repeat on it for the II version..

I like collector's editions when they remind me of the big-box PC games we used to get in the 90s. I love that Fallout New Vegas' collector's edition makes it look like a similarly packaged game next to Fallout and Fallout 2 on my big-box shelf. The recent collector's edition of Tales of Monkey Island is a similar thing, because of how large it is it fits right next to all its prequels on the big-box shelf.

Dragon Age was disappointing because it was still a think little package despite being the "collector's edition." Other than the map it really included nothing physical as an extra, which was a shame. At least Mass Effect 2, despite being relatively small, was thick and heavy and came with a book and other such things.

Why unfortunately? I hate 50k different versions of the same thing. Just because it is the collector's edition does not mean that there won't be a GOTY edition or anything else like that down the road.

I like what CD Projekt is doing on gog.com with The Witcher 2. They are providing a digital art book, map, soundtrack, and other stuff. Although one could spend $130 on the "ultimate" version.

No way is any other publisher going to be matching that deal. $45 for a full game and tons of bonus material? It's just not going to happen.

Because its pretty weak for a collectors edition maybe? Couple items and a bonus character thats more than likely part of Project 10 dollar and will be in every new copy anyway.

Well, say that the "Collector's Edition" came with the same stuff. Say there was not a "Signature Edition". It wouldn't really make a difference. It's rather pointless to speculate over an imaginary product with imaginary content.

It IS also a collector's edition that doesn't actually cost you anything extra. That said, I agree with the people who suggested that physical extras are what makes CEs special. Even though I ended up loathing the game itself, I still very much adore my Fallout 3 lunchbox and bobblehead (though on the other hand I'm still annoyed you can't actually throw the Arkham Asylum Batarang). Companies simply focus on digital bonuses because the delivery is easier. Just use a different box art and slip some cards with codes in the CE, No need to majorly involve 3rd parties to fashion resin casts or whatever.

I didn't know there was a bar to rate Collector's Editions.

There's a scale lying around here somewhere... ah, here it is.

1 point for tangible objects.
2 points if said object has in-game use.
10 points if said object has a use in real life.

Well, as far as others have gone, it is pretty weak, considering the party member will most likely be in every new copy (I mean, they outright say that the items in the SE have a value outside of the SE), which is why I'm not buying it. I just don't see the point in speculating what we COULD HAVE gotten.

To be clear, I won't buy the SE, not Dragon Age 2. I'm gonna buy the **** out of that.
