I was not debating between the CE and the SE, but rather the Hardcover CE Guide Book that came with DAO. I would like to see a repeat of that with DAO2 if at all possible. The best guide books I ever I come across thus far have been the ones issued for the CE versions of DAO and the ME2.

Of course I would like to see more from Bioware as well, I mean the CE or the SE is suppose to be the live all to die for edition. imo that is, lol.

Because its pretty weak for a collectors edition maybe?

I didn't know there was a bar to rate Collector's Editions.

In comparison to CE's of previous titles? Yes its pretty weak. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Most CE's are pretty weak nowadays.

And I'm personally more interested in digital bonus content than dust collectors. By that I mean sound tracks, making of cd's - not exclusive in-game stuff.

The signature edition is the collectors edition.

Yup.

Unfortunately very true.  This has been confirmed several times.

Why unfortunately? I hate 50k different versions of the same thing. Just because it is the collector's edition does not mean that there won't be a GOTY edition or anything else like that down the road.

Call me silly, crazy, irrational, sentimental... pick a pejorative.

I like getting the cloth map (or at least a poster map.)  I like the thicker manuals.  The coins.  The figurines.  The art books.  The actual CD case and CD soundtrack.  I'm getting a "Collector's" Edition to get some collectible memorabilia.

In-game items, digital files (like soundtrack music on the game disc), etc... those aren't collectible items.  I'm not saying they aren't nice, just that I can't set them on my shelf or pin them to my wall.

I've got the sig. edition pre-ordered. If a bigger and better collector's edition is announced, I'll cancel the sig. and buy that version. But, as things stand, what's the point in missing out on a free upgrade?

Well, as far as others have gone, it is pretty weak, considering the party member will most likely be in every new copy (I mean, they outright say that the items in the SE have a value outside of the SE), which is why I'm not buying it. I just don't see the point in speculating what we COULD HAVE gotten.

To be clear, I won't buy the SE, not Dragon Age 2. I'm gonna buy the **** out of that.

I have trouble with the reasoning behind this, considering that all you need to do to get the SE is pre-order the game in time. I understand there've been exceptions with stores upping the price tag of the SE vs. the regular game, but that comes down to unscrupulous store policies and runs counter to Bioware's intentions.

That said, I'm pretty certain the extra character will be available as paid DLC and/or part of an eventual Ultimate Edition. If the game will be moddable again (which wasn't fully certain last I looked), items are irrelevant at any rate -- and even if not, the ones you got with DA:O were nice but hardly game-breaking.

Which ones? DA:O had the cloth map which felt as if someone had drawn on a frayed kitchen towel and a CD with stuff people following the game already seen, and the rest was digital. ME2 had one of those tiny artbooks which you thumb through once then put away instead ot the map, and ME1 for the PC had no CE at all.

Not that I necessarily need crappy night vision goggles, low-level USB sticks, RC cars with cameras or ugly resin casts. But something physical that actually feels as if the people making it had put thought into it rather than just throwing together some odds and ends which are cheap to produce would be nice. Especially from folks as creative as the ones at Bioware.

Damn I started another tread, because I didnt see this one. So is the Signature Ed version the only version? Or after the offer ends in January, will they come out with a Collectors Ed after that?

I'm shaking my head at people who say they will not be getting the SE. IT'S FREE.

Whatever. I figure if people are going to get their games over the Internet then they most likely aren't going to see the SE version if they don't want it. If they pick it up at a retail store though, they very well may be getting the SE if they pre-ordered or not. EA has been doing this free SE or LE for pre-orders for ... 3 games now? Medal of Honor had this, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit was the same, and now Dragon Age 2. Funny thing is, when retailers received their shipment for those former two games, all of them were the special edition, there were no regular versions for customers who did not pre-order.

Kinda stupid there, EA.

Most of it is because people don't want the extra stuff. Considering that the extra party members and weapons will eventually (most likely) be available as DLC (or even New Copy DLC), it seems more logical to them to get the regular copy (I'm in this group). Then there are those that, for some reason, think Project $10 is a bad thing. Then you've got the people that think DLC is just content purposefully cut from the game with the intent to bilk us for money. Then there is a small fringe group that thinks the pre-order is simply because BioWare knows Dragon Age 2 sucks.

It's your money/order/game so you're obviously free to do as you like, but...

...there really is no logical reason I can think of that makes a version which presumably gets you extra content eventually preferable to a version which gives you extra content right away when they're both the same price and you're set on buying the game. Unless you want to wait until the full game hits nice price range or buy it used, of course, but since you didn't specifically mention it I wouldn't know.

I've got the "signature edition" pre-ordered just because I pre-order every game I am interested in on amazon to get the lowest price, but honestly I doubt I will care about the bonuses. Usually that crap is overpowered and stands out like a sore thumb. Using overpowered items is like cheating if you ask me, and ruins game balance. I ignored everything but Shale when I got DA:O.

I don't see what logic there is, especially if the free dlc for SE will cost money for those who don't get it.

But like I said, EA is messing up with their incentives to pre-order, so if you're pickng this game up from a store retailer then you're most likely going to be getting the SE regardless if you pre-ordered or not.

Has anyone noticed the parities between the content included in the DA2 SE and any new copy of DA orgins?

Playable character. Check

4 extra items. Check

Extra adventure. Check

Huge marketing gimmick in my eyes.

As I have said, we are updating our page with retailers as we get confirmation from the retailers that their pre-order page is ready. Just because you do not see your favorite store or country listed does not mean it is excluded. It just means we haven't updated the page yet. Check with yur local preferred retailer or online vendor to be sure.

Oh and:

THIS IS THE COLLECTOR's EDITION

After January 11, 2011 people will still be able to buy Dragon Age 2, but it will be a standard copy without all the cool free stuff included in the Signature Edition.

So get to ordering.

Yeah so we're definitely not getting the CE. But what I like about DA2 and even the Witcher 2 is that the normal editions are getting significant bonus material..both are getting the soundtrack cd, additional items etc.

I wonder if this is EA's new way to just generate pre-orders, and in the end, we all get the same thing, meaning EA duped us...  Wouldn't that be just the way things shack out now a days...  Shame if that is what actually happens, time will surly tell....Posted Image

Unless something has changed, normal edition hasn´t the DLCs SE has, and they´ll charge that for 20$. However TW2 normal edition is better than some CEs and I would say EA could afford producing a better CE than CDP, if EA is indeed responsible. DS2 has a good CE.

They both give you content right away, assumedly. That's at least what I'm working off of until a dev says "no day one dlc" or "the SE DLC is different from day one DLC".

People care for physical stuff alot hence why collectors editions are so popular, themain reason for a dlc special edition instead of proper items is that ea now has hold of bioware and ea themself have stated in many articles there not fond of collectors editions ( prob to save money lol ) hence why most new ea games just have dlc now like the new nfs game etc etc. big shame tbh. as biowares collectors gear was awesome in dao ans me etc.

Well i'm quite confused now, i pre-ordered the signature edition from GameStop and now i see the Standard Edition with pre-order bonus "http://dragonage.bio...a2/info/order/" so why shouldn't i have these items since i also preorder DragonAge2 and i've done 3 mounth ago? Assuming that the now item will not be included in the Signature edition. I hope someone can clarify this point.
