This is interesting to me. Have you thought much about why you dislike it so much? Just curious.Wyndham711 wrote...
I dislike swearing. Especially when I explicitly hear it. Reading it I can swallow easier, but every single time I hear swearing it rubs me the wrong way. And if anything this is especially true in a fantasy game. I want tamer language in my fantasy RPGs, no matter how 'realistic' or dark their subject matter or style is otherwise. Tamer in the sense that there is little to none swearing, or if there for some strongly justified reason is, the words chosen are tame or specifically invented.
What do you not want to happen in DA2?

- I don't want an enormous looming danger that could have been solved by the hero of the first game creating a big dilemma because the hero from the first game has mysteriously disappeared.
- I don't want my mage to pick up a random two-handed sword and use it to kill a boss in a dramatic cut-scene. He's much too weak to swing a two-handed sword, and even if he wasn't, he wouldn't know what to do with it. In fact, I don't want my sword and shield warrior to grab a two-handed sword in a cutscene either. Sure, she'd know what to do with it, but she has a perfectly good longsword made out of starmetal that's likely a whole lot stronger than that random sword she picked up for no good reason.
- I don't want a flashy-looking deathblow mid-fight keeping me tied up pointlessly brutalizing a corpse when what I'd really like to be doing is taunting a monster to make it stop assaulting my poor mage. She's fragile.
- I don't want over the course of a game's narrative to find the love of my life and have us happily pledge to stay with each other after the war is done only to find she leaves inexplicably after a short period of time according to a five-word dependent clause in the epilogue. (Likely so the devs could introduce different characters in the expansion.)
- I don't want to read the description of an ability only to still be unsure of precisely how it works. In fact, I would prefer to have terms such as "small bonus" and "wider flanking angle" replaced with numbers. In general, I would like to avoid having such a lack of gameplay mechanics information given that I feel the need to alt+tab so I could look something up online. I mean, sure, I have the RAM, but really now.
- I don't want weapon skill sets to be identical across classes.
- I don't want my rogue with master stealth to be spotted by a random NPC as she makes her way to the back of a shop via the magic of cut-scenes.
- I would like the woman I just pointedly called a friend and nothing more to not confront me the next time we talk saying I need to decide between her and the woman I'm actively romancing. (Similarly, to not have her happily gush about my relationship with party member B one conversation, then, after I assure party member B she and I are just friends, have her confront me, heartbroken, about my "choice" the next time we talk.)
- I don't want to find halfway through the game that the order I chose to do the "free-roam" areas in was the wrong one, and now I'm stuck fighting hopelessly underpowered enemies for a significant chunk of the game.
- Near the end of the game, I would like a good amount of the dramatic element not to be taken away because the speech a character is giving is uncannily similar to the speech you would have heard from a another character had you made a different choice.
- I do not want to be the only person in the game that can have a romance. I would like to see gradual and developing emotions among my companions as well. (That means something a bit more substantive than Felsi.)
- I do not want to have to die to get the full epilogues for my companions. Dying's rather painful.
- I do not want to have to spend combat rogue talents to be able to open locks, which are not only unbreakable but also everywhere.

These seem to be suspiciously specific in their description.

In all seriousness, these (suspiciously) specific incidents speak to larger issues (a notorious trope used by many sequels, story-telling seeming to give way to expansion considerations, and serious bugs with the relationship system) I meant to convey I didn't want to see go unaddressed in DA2. Yes, though, if those same exact things happen in DA2, I will probably rip my hair out. Also, scream.

I'd also like to seem them break away from the more minor "BioWare tropes", so to speak. DA:O and ME2 did a good job at deviating from the formula of KotOR and Jade Empire, I'd also like that to extend to some others that tend to pop up a lot, such as whiny male leads (I'm lookin' at you, Carth and Kaidan). I am excited to see how the framed narrative changes things up as well.
Personal preference. Carth and Kaidan are not whiny. I'll take a Carth, Kaidan or older Alistair any day over some obnoxious twit who thinks he's gods gift as a LI. Actually I've liked most of the LI BioWare comes up with.
Same here. The only one I didn't like was Anomen, and that was a LONG time ago.

I don't want mages hogging the Cleric role (I know this is unavoidable, as healing magic is for mages in this Lore. Still, I miss my support class).

Oh christ, another prude. Tell you what, how about a "language filter" like the one they have in Gears of War 2? Would that appease you?

As my grandmother used to tell me "Wish in one hand, **** in the other and see which one fills up the fastest" Seriously, if it bothers you that badly just dont play DA2 or any other RPG in the future for that matter and go back to playing pen and paper RPGs.

If they could make it fun, I would have no objection. But it needs ALOT of work, both in DA:O and DA:A, if it were to continue. I still am totally cool with demons and stuff though, I think the whole Rage, Hunger, Desire, Pride Hierarchy was pretty interesting.

Yes, but next time they do an expansion I want a better premise than talking darkspawn. They should have had an expansion in Orlais, where you have to fight for/against the Dalish or something refreshing like that. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't really like Awakening.
