Start steam then go to My Games, right click Dragon Age: Origins then click Properties. Click Set Launch Options then copy and paste the following:
-enabledeveloperconsole
And click OK.
Console should be available when you run the game.

Did that work? I can't view the console for some reason. the tilde does disable in-game function, but no console is visible.
Thank you

You can't see it. You just have to hit tilde/the key, start typing and hit enter.
You will not see what you're typing. You're not supposed to. You'll know you typed the right thing when you get feedback saying the result you wanted.
It's unlike the console in many games in that it's "invisible". This is why, BTW, it's confusing for many as to whether it is working or not.
I can tell you the other thing that may confuse you is it looks like some console codes from Origins were either disabled, or their syntax changed, in Awakening.
This all will be probably sorted out on the unofficial Wiki eventually, once it all ... gets sorted out.

The invisible console is a bit of a hassle when you aren't sure whether the code you typed was misspelled or is not in fact a real code at all.

Yes, it's very possible to enable the console with the Steam version (by editing DAOriginsLauncher.xml, I haven't tried the other methods). To make the console visible, use this mod : http://dragonage.nex...s.com/mods/1110
