Would you have betrayed Liara if the choice had been her or the Shadow Broker's network?

Betray your friends, those who trust you for the promise of gain from a stranger.

Is this the act of a renegade ?

Do you also get thirty pieces of silver with that deal ?

I would rather kill Thane and gain Nassana's financial and intel support. Since Thane is dying a couple months later

I wouldn't even betray Liara if doing so was guaranteed to instantly stop the Reapers...

This doesn't seem like something even a Renegade would do--the Shadow Broker has proven he can't be trusted and reading his Dossiers only cements that (his betrayal of Tali proves he'll directly contradict a deal he makes). The Shadow Broker can't offer you anything that Liara can't and Liara is utterly loyal to you. Although the SB does have the expertise, he's not to be trusted.

If Liara blinks her cute eyes and ask me to hand her the Collector base... I probably would have... been less of a Paragon :P

I would probably kill her a few times, but my ultimate canon decision would probably involve her survival and her being my LI.

If she betrays me (lol, like that's gonna happen) then she's ****ed.

NO ONE MESSES WITH CANON ****ING SHEP!!

Not to mention that my Shepard did give the intel to the Broker's Agent...what favor did that buy me, to be sold down the river to an agent of the greatest enemy the galaxy has ever known. Thanks but no thanks. Would not trust the SB as far as Shepard could throw him (even if he was being thrown out an airlock). The SB would die regardless of the consequences...

This question also reminds of a particular squad mate's loyalty quest - one where even the most renegade of player's have expressed their sense of dirtiness picking the renegae option on these forums. Not sure that Liara vs. the SB would result in a different result to the discussion.

(salivates over information network controls)

"Sorry Liara, this information is too valuable to give up out of spite."

(biotically throws Liara out the window)

But seriously, the Broker is a far more useful ally than Liara. Collector partnership be damed. But I would hate myself for doing something so cold.

Liara is quite a powerful information broker after, at most, two years. The Shadow Broker is not honest or trustworthy--as I said, once he gets what he wants from Tali, he plans on killing her in the first game. You have a reason to hold a personal grudge against him for trying to sell your body and sending waves of mercs after you to kill you.

Liara has all of the information of the Shadow Broker at her fingertips, and is already a successful broker and knows a bit on how to handle it. She is utterly loyal to you and you know she will provide the information you need, when you need it. She even lets you personally handle the files. The Shadow Broker might want to force a Tela Vasir with you, and have you kill people off or do his dirty work to his advantage.

Killing Liara for the Shadow Broker is Stupid Evil, not even something I think a Renegade would do. That's my two cents, anyway. :D

I don't blindly trust anyone on just a few words, despite how retarded I'm forced to act when working with Cerberus (Please just retcon it so Shepard had a control chip in his head or a would-you-kindly or something) So no, I wouldn't kill off Liara.

When someone like Liara get on the nerves of the SB as an information broker so badly that he gets desperate to kill her any way possible, it shows that it is time to change leadership. This shows that Liara can do a better job than the SB if they both have the same resources.
Look at it this way, either way you would have the SB on your side though Liara would be more trustworthy as SB.

While I agree that Liara is the better choice, the Shadow Broker wants he dead because she's close to finding out his location--that's a valid reason to kill her off.

Shepard > Reapers so far. Shadow Broker is trash when it comes to Shepard's combat prowess. That in itself would be enough reason to kill him off. You'd figure all that info at his fingertips would give him an advantage, but it did not. "'Shadow Broker'? You aren't worthy enough to hold that title" *Kills him*

Plenty of people gleefully stick it to Cerberus and fantasize about hurting TIM as much as possible.

Interesting question, and just to stir the pot, what if Liara was part of the conversation discussing her life vs. the Shadow broker's information, and she agreed, knowing what she knows, that the intel was more important to saving the galaxy and offered to make the sacrifice...

My soldier with the Liara LI wouldn't need to think twice, but my infiltrator might have to consider such an offer for a minute or two...before blowing the SB away. Always look out for your crew (even Zaaed, who I'm tempted to leave on an uninhabited planet.)

I wanted to encourage Liara to destroy the base in order to save her (keep her from going down an even darker path) - even if it meant losing the entire network. I think that would have been a better choice to have to make. I feel like I'm sacrificing her soul to fight the Reapers.

So, obviously, no I would not betray Liara.

It might have been different if the question posed was less specific. As in, I rejected it because I don't think my Shepard would believe the Shadow Broker was telling the truth.

A question like, "would you kill your love interest/favourite character if it would defnitely improve your chances in the war?" might produce a more even spread of responses.

You are honestly suprised that people dont want to betray Liara for the giant frog?

Who also tried to sell your body to the collectors?

Who worked for them to save his own butt?

Who takes one single insult to go insanely berserk?

I dont think anyone really would take a sudden change of heart from the person who has been trying to kill them over the course of the DLC.

As awesome as the SB network is, I can't see killing Liara for the greater good be something even a Renegade would do, just because some guy with an information network didn't like her.

The difference is the game actually gives enough merit for both sides of the argument of being "Pro-Cerberus" or "Con-Cerberus." There's absolutely zero reason to turn on Liara for a man who will just as well leave you dead if a better deal turns around.

Liara's a squid-head as it is. Looks don't matter when it comes to aliens.

Who also tried to sell your body to the collectors?

Am I the only person not enamored with Shepard's corpse?

It's a dead body. The Alliance was going to bury it. The Collectors were going to disect it. I don't even want to know what Liara was intending once she got it. Shepard doesn't exactly have much reason to care. Shepard doesn't even know that the Collectors were the one to kill him until at least Halfway through the game.

About the only faction who wanted the body for reasons I especially care for was Cerberus... and many people already take their involvement as some sort of personal insult.

Who worked for them to save his own butt?

At what point was that ever said? When was it ever implied that the Collectors and the Shadow Broker made a deal in which the Broker would be spared in any sense?

As opposed to, you know, selling a corpse for credits.

Who takes one single insult to go insanely berserk?

Didn't I already say that parts of the mission would be rewritten?

Personally, for an added touch I'd remove the the 'boss fight' entirely, bumping it up to right before you enter the chamber. Simply have the Broker sit there, unarmed, and unresisting if you decide to kill him.

I dont think anyone really would take a sudden change of heart from the person who has been trying to kill them over the course of the DLC.

You'd be surprised. Plenty of characters who try to kill you at first become fan favorites. You know, 'defeat equals friendship'.
