 Hello, I am new here.

First of all, sorry for my English: I am not mother tongue (I am Italian). I hope I will make myself clear.

I recently start to play Neverwinter Nights II for the third time. After a monk and a dark elf sorcerer, I decided to play a duelist (D'Artagnan style). So I started to play a warrior, I took all the necessary feats and abilities and, at the right level, I became a duelist. Now I am a warrior of 7th and a duelist of 1st.

Among the required feats, I had to take weapon finesse (using dexterity instead of strenght to hit enemies, but just with light weapons). Morevoer, I have had to use rapier.
I was sure that the weapon finesse feat could stick with the rapier.

However, whilest I was increasing my dexterity (please note that I cannot wear armours), I noticed that my my bonus to hit did not increase too much. I start making some calculations, and I noticed that, nothwithstanding I had weapon finesse and I was using rapier,   the software was using my bonus of strenght.

I immedialteluy understood the reason of that: the rapier is a medium weapon!!!!

Obviously it is a nonsense. Why the duelist is OBLIGED to take a feat (weapon finesse) which cannot be used with the weapon he MUST use (the rapier)?

How can I solve this problem? Am I doing something wrong?

Any idea?

Thank you from Italy.

K.

Weapon Finesse can be used with a rapier. The only thing I can think of is that you are playing a small race? If so, that could affect it. If that isn't the case, I don't know.

Yeah, Weapon Finesse works for Rapiers (they are an exception - the only middle-sized light weapon). Unless you're a small race, like BardKesnit wrote. They are two-handed weapons for small races. But I THINK Monkey Grip feat can help here (and doesn't actually apply the penalty for small races). Might be mistaken though.

Additionally Duelists are not limited to rapiers, even though it's a popular choice. They can use any piercing melee weapons - even spears.

Thank you for your answers.

First of all, my duelist is human, so he is not a small race.

I checked my stats and I discovered that it is stranger than what I thought. I am not using the strength bonus, but just A PART of my dexterity bonus.

Let me explain it.

My base attack bonus is 9 (worrior seventh, duelist second). My strenght bous is +2, my dex bonus is +6.

My first melee attack bonus should be: 9 +6 (dex), +3 (I am using a rapier +3), +1 (weapon focus) = 19. But I just have 16!

I tried to leave all my items (just to semplify my calculations). In this case, since normally I use an item increasing my dex, my dex bonus is +5.

My unarmed strike bonus should be 14 (9+5), but it is just 11! I had the doubt that I was using the strenght bonus (which is +2), but it is not so. In fact, if I put the item increasing my dex, my unarmed attack bonus increase: +12!

So, it seems the game is actually using my dex bonus, but just half of it.

Any explanation?

Thank you

You aren't using Combat Expertise mode, are you? ...or Power Attack for that matter (which does nothing good for light weapons).

YES! You are right, the Power Attack mode was starting automatically and I did not notice it! Thank you, now it works properly.
