That cow tried to arrest me when rescuing the queen so...too bad, you just got decapitated, ****.

The fight is, like most of them, incredibly easy (OH LOOK I AM TANK SHOUT SHOUT OH I CANT MOVE OH LOOK THERE IS A THUNDERFIRECOLDSTORM ABOVE MY HEAD LOLOLOL) and I will never surrender...especially after not having had a look at that torture chambe.

Who is she to call my Warden "churl" and tell me that my betters are talking? Especially since she comes from commoner roots herself?

Yeah, that's annoying but it seems kind of petty to kill her for it.

My DC, fresh from being talked down to and spat on in Orzammar, was all about being petty about it.  I can't say that she was quite "For that, you must die!"  but when Cauthrien showed up later, she was happy enough to bring it.

HN went quietly, DE shouted something about 'never again shall we submit'... depends on the playthrough for me.

Sure it is...

About Cauthrien, I really wish there had been a way to talk her out of fighting at Howe's estate. Her convo before the Landsmeet is really great and it helps develop her character a lot. I actually liked her after hearing that conversation.

Of course, since you can only get that convo by surrendering (or losing the battle) at Howe's estate, there's no way I'll ever get it for real (I only saw it for testing purposes). Sorry, but there's no way I'm turning myself in for what is a guaranteed execution (and torture perhaps).

As for her "churl" remark, I hate it and it doesn't help one bit that she's just as smug at Howe's estate.

"Unlike you, some of us know what honor and loyalty are."

Really? Here, taste my sword then.

Oh yes! What a cow she is for attempting to arrest you for murdering an Arl in his home! The fact that Howe is a complete monster totally makes your actions of breaking into his home and killing him legal! The fact that if you bring up that you're trying to save Anora she denies it and Cauthrien doesn't believe the word of the outlawed Arl-murderer over the queen's is just further proof that she's a stupid **** and needs to die.

We are fluent in sarcasm!

I don't begrudge her trying to arrest you.  In fact, it's a wonder you've been able to move around Denerim freely at all, considering you're outlaws.  Killing her is self-defense, however.

Yeah, you can't blame Cauthrien for that. Killing Howe in his home was an illegal act. Granted, it's an illegal act that I'll gladly and proudly commit as many times as needed, but it's still an illegal act, hence Cauthrien did have a right to try to arrest you.

Too bad it meant her death because there's no way I was letting myself get arrested.

You know, I kind of liked her. She seemed to have a little bit of a mind and the ability to think on her own . . . just not enough to save her life.

I've yet to talk her down, although I've tried several times - I assume I just don't pick the right options. She dies outside the Landsmeet every time . . . and that death I actually feel bad about.

If you're trying to use Persuade, it apparently doesn't work right on PC. It checks your Poison skill instead. *shrug*  And I'm not sure what one has to do with the other because they're apparently not linked in the toolset, but the only way I've managed to successfully Persuade her is if I surrender to her at Howe's estate.

No, I'm on the 360 - I've tried it with all 4 coercian ranks, and still didn't get her to back down, which is why I assume I pick a wrong dialogue option in there which screws it. <shrug>  If I could recruit her, I'd be hell bent to do so, but since I can't . . . oh well.

Count me in the Cauthrien fanclub. Too bad you couldn't have a few words with her during the post-coronation sequence if she was still alive. That could have made for a nice convo, especially if you spared Loghain

Ah Cauthrien; doomed to die the moment she said to me 'You're betters are talking.'

Alim: 'Oh really?'

I understand she was doing her job. I just don't care. "You're betters are talking." I wonder if the aura of arrogance surrounding Loghain is contagious?

I think it's her hero worship talking.  She doesn't necessarily consider herself better than you, but Loghain definitely is (in her world).

Oh, I got that about her. She feels very much indebted to the Hero Loghain and (at least in my listening ot the lines) she pays the same compliment to Arl Eamon.

I just like keeping things simple. And I feel bad about letting her live when I'm going to kill Loghain anyway. Don't know why I feel bad about that, I just do.

My character(s) generally cut down Cauthrien in battle at Howe's Estate — and when they drive their blades into her gut, my character(s) whispers in Cauthrien's ear, "Perhaps you'll accomplish more in the next life than you did in this one."

Then, they let her lifeless corpse slide off their blades and drop to the floor with a thump.

Quill74Pen

P.S. My characters have real problems with folks who talk down to them and pretend they've done more with loyalty and honor and whatnot than my characters have. You dare to say that to the Grey Warden who has all but united Ferelden against the Blight?!

But you haven't done that yet, at that point. Infact you could even lose the Landsmeet.

Seeing as how from her perspective your working with Eamon who is the reason that Ferelden ISN'T united against the Blight...yes, yes she does dare.

Yeah, that's annoying but it seems kind of petty to kill her for it.

And given how completely unsurprised Loghain is to see you at the Landsmeet, he either had no idea or fully expected Cauthrien to get herself killed. I can't see him having her make a suicide attack like that and then never even mentioning it.

(husband)

Well when I play I often kill her for the remark and that fancey sword of her's.   If she didn't have a nice drop though I would probably let her go.

Not only that, but you're there to try and remove Loghain as Regent, her immediate superior and the man who drove the Orlesians out of Ferelden. Up to the Landsmeet, you've really only been running errands.

Sarah1281:

Fine. She dies each and every time. On top of that, she, too, abandoned King Cailen, his army and the Grey Wardens at Ostagar. "Oh, I was just following orders!" doesn't cut it. There are times in one's life when you stand against authority, damn the consequences, because authority — be it secular, religious or business — isn't always right.

Exactly.   The human rights record of howe and loghain is pretty much established by that point, and if there is any doubt the alienage is the final nail in the coffin.
