Here's the situation:

In the level editor, I placed a numbed of fxe_fire_ models onto my vista objects to give the impression of large fires in the distance. I resized the fires, got everything placed where I wanted it - so far so good.

To ensure the vista objects showed up in-game I ran 'do all local posts' via Single Player then moved the file to my module override - again, so far so good.

Next I opened the level again just to check everything was okay, and something seems to have gone wrong with the fires I'd placed on the vista objects.

The yellow boxes (bounding boxes?) are all still in the right place, but the actual flames are now appearing way off behind the vista objects. So next I created an area and set my level as the area layout, but there's no sign of those fires in the area editor or in-game after exporting.

Ditto in the cutscene editor - no sign at all of those fires placed on the vista objects.

So, is there something specific I need to do to get vfx to export correctly when placed on vista objects? Is it something to do with placing them outside the green exportable area? (I have other fires inside the green box, and they're all fine.)

Also, if there's no way to get what I've tried to actually work, is there any way to resize an fxe_ inside the cutscene editor, as you can in the level editor? If I have to replicate the effect I'm after by placing new fires in the cutscene editor I'll need several dozen, because they're far too small.

*EDIT*

Ok, now this is a stupid question: how the heck do you add a screenshot to forum posts?!

Vista objects are exported in low LOD so that might be the issue with the fires.

What you could so is have a large level and place those objects, including the vista ones in the green exportable area but have pathfinding only in that small area you want.
Or try having the green area include those vista objects if they are not outside the level mesh.

To add images, place the URL of the image within the {img} and {/img} tags - replace { } with [ ]

Thanks for the input, TimelordDC.

The problem is, I hadn't planned on those vista fires; they were a last minute addition when I was tweaking the level before posting it to local. I'd rather not have to start from scracth with a larger terrain mesh.

For now I'll try a few things with placable fxe_ fires in the cutscene editor ...

*EDIT*

I got it to work.

Thinking about what TimelordDC said regarding LOD, I went back to the level and made some changes:

a) I changed the 'show high LOD' for all my vista fires to 'TRUE'
B) I extended the green exportable area so that all the vista fires were now inside it
c) I made the whole terrain mesh a mini map.

I don't know if all the above changes were neccessary, but the upshot is I rendered my lightmaps again, did all local posts via Single Player, and now all the vista fires show up in the area editor, in-game after exporting, and in the cutscene editor.
