And, while I enjoyed myself thoroughly, and got the best ending I could have gotten (Sleeping Man and Dharvana together, Valen and I together, Mephistopheles banished to Cania for eternity), I still have one thing I'm wondering about...

I downloaded the fix for the Valen romance, but I didn't get the conversations you're supposed to get. I'm not sure if maybe I installed it wrong, or if I have to start a new game to get it to take effect...? Also, does anyone know if I have to install the Chapter 2 one differently than the Chapter 3? Because the CHP 2 one doesn't have a readme or anything. I got it here: nwvault.ign.com/View.php. The link for the Chapter 2 fix is further down the page.

Does anyone have any advice?

PS: I apologize for flooding the boards recently, but I've never had issues with this game before. :?

Hi!

AFAIR the Ch 2 fix is installed in the same way as the Ch 3 fix. The trigger for the conversation in the mimics realm can be a bit tricky. I always save before I step over it and reload if it doesn't trigger.

As for starting a new game - You have to install the fix before your character starts the chapter. Otherwise the fix will not work until the next time you start the chapter from the beginning.

That's really odd, because I had the fix installed BEFORE I started chapter 3, and never hit it. =/

Maybe I'll play through again with ONLY Valen in my party. That way, the triggers can't be anyone else. Because I was having issues with Deekin triggering conversations that I KNEW were supposed to happen with Valen...

Aw shucks, guess I'll have to play it again. ^_^

ETA: So there's definitely a conversation in the Mimic's lair? I was sitting there thinking, "Really? You got nothing??" I couldn't figure it out, since I know that Aribeth will say something in there. Maybe I'll re-install it, since I have backups of the modules...

Then only the fix for chapter 3 would work, too late for the one in Ch 2.

Yes, those triggers chose a companion randomly. It is possible to save beforehand and reload until the right party member speaks up :innocent:

That's just too bad, isn't it?

When you enter the mimics lair, save your game right after the cutscene. Pause the game and enable debugmode. You will see two triggers (yellow patches) before you. The smaller one on the left, right before the two pillars should be the one to start the conversation (sorry, no toolset at the moment to check for sure). Disable debugmode again and walk over that trigger, reload if necessary.
The second fix for Ch 3 is only a conversation branch that didn't show up in the final talk right before you leave for waterdeep, so no extra triggers involved.

Good Luck

One of the things you could do if you don't obtain the dialogue is walking towards Valen, look at him in his wonderful ice-blue eyes and say "What was the thing you would like to say before?" (free translation from the Italian option, but you should catch the meaning).

The first time I entered the mimic area, he spoke. The second (reload due to crash of NWN) he didn't. So I asked :-D

However, looking in the toolset, I found that I'd lost about 3 or 4 dialogues throughout the entire adventure... That's a shame! So, talk to him often!

Thanks for the tip, Terisha! I never knew what those yellow boxes on the ground meant during DebugMode. As far as I know, I got all the conversation right before leaving for Waterdeep, but I don't know how to check for sure. I'm a bit Toolset-illiterate... Is there a quick explanation as to how to access conversations in Toolset?

Vaalyah: I know! I was thinking, "If I was in his place, I'd be so annoyed this girl keeps bothering me!" I was talking to him ALL THE TIME, just because I was trying not to miss anything. lol

Eh, my windows computer is broken at the moment, so I hope I remember this correctly. Open the conversation editor in the toolset and then chose "open file". At the bottom should be tho option "module resources only", check this box. The henchman conversation are labeled x2_hen and then val for valen. In this file you should find all interjections and the romance talks for valen. The order is usually backwards, from last to first. The final romance talk is the one about the future and possible marriage/children.

I hope that helps.

@ Halo: I had the same problem and asked for help in searching the toolset. HipMaestro sent me an interesting tutorial! Ask him if he can send a copy also to you!

I had my file in a different location, probably due to my game being in Italian. But you should have no problem if you game is in English!

@Terisha: Thanks, I'll take a look. It'll be nice to definitely know which choices I should make. I'm usually a bit hit-or-miss. I always save before I start a conversation with him, just in case I mess up.

@Vaalyah: Thanks, I'll definitely do that, if Terisha's tips don't work. :)

ETA: I opened up the x2_valen conversation, but was only able to find the initial conversation you have with him in the Temple of Lolth... :( Any tips?

ETA: Nevermind, I found the conversation path. I opened the wrong file. So, yeah, I'm kind of stupid.

I read through the conversations, and I didn't see anything that would fit into the Mimic's lair...?? It's not a huge deal, I'll figure it out when I get there.

Maybe, being it a bugfix, it is not in the normal dialogue file... I have it in the big dialogue file of the chapter3, together with all Valen's romance related dialogues of... chapter 2 :-D

Oh. That's an idea. I'll just make sure I get the trigger then. :)

Okay, I can't get it to trigger. I see the two trigger points in DebugMode, but no matter what I do, I can't get the conversation to start. >_>

I don't know if this will help, but the first interject trigger is for when Aribeth is in the party.

Now, for the only other interject trigger in the nest, perhaps this documentation from the trigger script will help:

  1. Henchmen now trigger the trigger, not players
  2. Henchmen will only attempt to do the popup or intjereciton
if the player and the henchmen meet he following requirements
        (a) Neither in combat
        (B) Neither in Conversation
© Within 10 meters of each other

So, let me see if I got this straight. The beginning conversation when we first enter the nest is for Aribeth only, but there's ANOTHER conversation that I can have with Valen at a later point in the nest? Am I getting this right?

You got it right, Halo. The other one is up a bit on the left side, I think near one of those 2-way barriers.

Just download the bug fix from here

http://www.petalsand...opic.php?t=1633

and follow the instruction that you will find in the readme file in that download.

Cool, thanks ^_^ I'm also wondering about how you install the bugfix for ch3, the one in the OP's post (the link) as well as the one for ch2 (which is in the OP's post, in the site ^^")

How do you get that ending so that sleeping man is together with dvharna?

When you donwload the bugfix file, there's a readme file in the .zip. Just follow the steps described and you'll surely be able to install it without any problem ;-)

@Habelo: once at the Knower of Names, you will get some "random" answers. If you are lucky enough, you will get the Sleeping Man's true love name being Dvharna. Just save before speaking with the Knower and, in case, reload the game till you get the desired answer! :-D

I can't help you here. I played the game just once and the Sleeping Man was waiting for Aribeth. The exact choice I wanted :-D You should wait for some other players to see your question!
