"the lead designer"

When I look in my Dragon Age manual, there is no listing for "lead designer," only "lead designers," among which there are two other people, who, unlike Brent Knowles, do not seem to have left the company.

Not everbody quits thier job because they don't like it either.  Just saying.

Hey quick question.

Had you ever worked there?

Have you?

I believe I asked first and deserve the first answer.

You wouldn't like the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow gamefaqs board. Awesome game though.

I do go on their, Haven't played it yet but a freind of mine loved it. But still it's better than the DA2 Gamefaqs boards.

Brent Knowles' blog:
After ten years, I could no longer work for BioWare. There are a many reasons for this, most are private, but ultimately I’m not the same person I was when I started, and BioWare isn’t the same company. We’ve changed.

Emphasis mine. You seem to be missing that aspect of his blog posting. You don't really know all the reasons he had for leaving (no one but Brent Knowles knows this) and you're reading rather a lot into it given that he also says the following:

Discussion on Dragon Age 2 began around this time and looking ahead I knew that I wasn’t going to be satisfied with what Dragon Age 2 would be. Party control/tactical combat are huge factors in my enjoyment of a role-playing game as is adopting the role of the hero (i.e., customizing my character). I was fairly certain Dragon Age would transition towards more of a Mass Effect experience, which while enjoyable is not the type of role-playing game I play. Could I be the lead designer on such a title? Certainly… though if I were going to work on a game adopting a set-in-stone protagonist I’d rather work on something lighter, like a shooter.

Again, emphasis mine. Bioware is undoubtedly not the same company it was a decade ago but the industry is also not the same as it was a decade ago. Because the company has changed does not mean it is now soulless and bent on screwing you out of your money and then spitting in your face. I mean really.

Also could you make the title sound MORE like a eulogy?

Perhaps the question should be posited to Brent Knowles then.

Right- James Ohlen was the first and created much of the rules and such I believe before Brent Knowles took over as I think Ohlen is working on TOR now. But Knowles was Lead Designer for much of the course of Origins development before Mike took over once Brent left late in Origins development.

So in terms of influence how Origins turned out, I think Brent had a pretty damn big influence.

Why would he? It would disprove him of his nicely constructed theory of the evil empire destroying Bioware.

All due respect to the guy, but maybe this is for the best for everyone. From what I see of DA2 it is going to have the same relationship to DAO that ME2 did to ME1. That's a damn good thing. If the dude didn't like that, no harm no foul, I hope to hell he goes out and finds his dream job. But me, I got seventy bucks that is already waiting for DA2. So. Gimmie story.

Of course he didn't ask anything, however you seem keen to ignore his points and instead answer the other people who haven't asked questions either. Why are you avoiding Mike's post? Is it because it shatters your theory?

This!  People move on from jobs all the time.  Plenty of times it has nothing to do with the job itself, it's the person that doesn't fit into it anymore.

Also could I suggest Anarya's avatar for a love interest in DA3? <3

Perhaps the question should be posited to Brent Knowles then.

Well, have you worked at BioWare? You can't just throw that back at Woe. You're the one criticizing a guy you don't even know over a situation you know nothing about, at an industry you have (presumably) never worked in.

The onus is not on Woe.

Woe asked you a question. You responded with "I don't need to answer because Brent Knowles left".

Ignoring what he - someone who actually works at BioWare, has worked with Knowles, and is deep within the design process - said in relation to your conjecture is petty.

(Wow, have I really responded four times to this topic?)

ok, a senior guy left Bioware, big deal. Honestly, apart from Bethany's model I don't like much I see in DA2 but criticism needs to be focused onto the facts you don't like instead of an opinion of someone who worked there, politics sometimes play a large role on what people say.

Those politics being:  he wanted them to continue to make the old school style rpg, and they werent going to because of the company changes.

Well, sure, it just seems a bit like exaggeration bordering on misinformation to say "The lead designer left because he was so upset with the direction of DA" (ignoring the issue of whether that was the reason at all) and leave out that there were two other lead designers of the project as well. I mean I suppose it kind of works considering what you've said, but it still feels excessively doomsayery to me.
