I disagree. Most people dont say bad things even if they want to because they dont want to burn bridges etc.  I think he means what he wrote and I think some people here are in denial that this game probably wont be as good as DAO.

... unless you like hack and slash jrpg's that is

People burn bridges all the time. What DA2 will be with respect to DAO is irrelevant, when people walk away from a company, the rule of the thumb is "money talks & bull**** walks" if you get the bull****, you walk.

I don't think I'm in denial about anything. I know it'll be different than DAO but whether it'll be better or worse in my estimation I won't know until I finish my first playthrough. "Good" is a subjective concept anyway. Those of us who are supporting DA2 at this stage feel like it more or less aligns with our preferences (from what we've heard of it), though we may or may not be on board with 100% of the changes.

You may think the opposite and that's fine, but you and all the other people who keep calling us delusional, in denial, stupid, etc. should keep your criticisms impersonal.

Oh please. This thread is a thinly-veiled attack against Bioware. You wouldn't have raised what Brent said or attempted to twist it to fit your alarmist nonsense otherwise.

Yeah, yeah, Bioware is "not the person they once were." Whatever the hell that means. Stop shouting that the sky is falling.

I won't speak for the OP, but its not attacking BIoWare to simply state your concern or displeasure with the seeming direction they are taking DA2. Maybe its much to do about nothing- I sure as hell hope it is. But for those who enjoyed Orgins' style of gameplay and its approach as an RPG, Knowles was one of the guys who had a very, very large hand in Origins turning out the way it did. He wasn't some intern fetching coffee.

So if Knowles says that he had concerns over the kind of RPG DA2 might end up being, that echos the concerns of many people. Again, maybe its nothing, but in the absence of any solid proof or footage as to what sort of RPG DA2 is going to be, we're reduced to making judgements for good or ill based on other's impressions. And I'll take the impressions of one of the chief guys that made Origins with a good deal of authority.

Why do you insist on calling Brent Knowles a money hungry lier?

You really don't believe he means what he wrote in that blog?

Why would he lie? If he's willing to trash talk the company he worked for for 10 years in a blog I think he's willing to say he left for the money in a blog. If it were true.

Okay.
One more post.

He was one of the lead designers. But his opinion on what makes a good game is still as subjective as any of ours. Please don't assume that your opinion of a fictional piece of fiction is superior to anyone elses, or that is is the same as anyone elses.

You're absolutely right, here, but that's not really what the OP is doing:

Davasar posted:
Any apologists still up for the notion that Bioware "is still the same as they ever were" argument?

Got
over it.  EA has them now, and will do what they want with them.  If
that means make lesser games in order to shuck out more product to be
bought up by unexamining hordes, then thats what will happen.

The man who worked there 10 years has just shot your argument down. Completely.

Bioware
has changed folks, and not for the better when a great designer like
Brent Knowles feels he has to quit because of those changes.

Okay.
Last post.
I swear.

You are completely misinterpreting what she is saying. She's not saying Knowles is money hungry. Just that he may have left over a pay raise dispute or some such.

Wanting to get paid more/fairly =/= money hungry.

If you can't feed your family or yourself, if you can't make rent, find a new job that pays better.

Making it out to be "for the art" is just a ridiculous argument. Nobody takes a paying job for the love of art.

No question, the man sounds disillusioned...about something. He clearly took a dig at Mass Effect.

But his role in this is still ambiguous. It also sounds as if he was ready to move on no matter what, that the stress of the job was getting to him.

Drama queen much? He plainly said there was a disagreement with direction... You are just trying make it mean more then it is to help further your view point that DA2 will be a hack and slash JRPG. You sound more like someone pouting because of the preconception that you won't like the game and now you wana create more drama then there is.

We can only assume he is being completely honest with what he said, to infer anything else outside of perhaps, direction changes to the game(very vague changes), is just acting dishonest.

Why is hunger for money bad?

Why is saying something not-that-good about your former employer bad?

Jesus, we'll burn in hell if St. Peter is on sabbatical & you take his place :D

Did I? Is she just talking about why she thinks people leave jobs in general then? I'm talking about Brent Knowles leaving Bioware and the blog he wrote about it.

We're speculating. Most people don't leave jobs that put them in stable financial situations for artistic reasons. You'll note that he says that most of the reasons for his departure are "personal." Not ZOMG BIOWARE IS TEH EVULZ.

And where did he hint that he left because of DA2? You sir have no basis to question his motive. He left, end of story.

And why did this Brent Knowles blog suddenly need its own thread after being mentioned in another thread earlier? *sigh* This seems to be vaguely alarmist, and apparently, Mr. Knowles didn't mention exactly what the project was in any case so any guesses people want to make are just guesses without any confirmation or actual fact as far as I can tell.

It's not a matter of Bioware being evil. Show me a job where there's no politics and I'll apply tomorrow morning. Sometimes politics don't work out for people and they leave, happens every day in all sort of jobs, nothing new here.

I'm on your side. The point I was attempting to make is that since Knowles cites personal reasons, it was likely intercompany politics and not some kind of doom and gloom end of all we know to be rpg, as the OP would have everyone believe.

Thanks for admitting your speculating. Thats kinda what I wanted. I never said " ZOMG BIOWARE IS TEH EVULZ" just trying to take Brent's Blog as honest the way it was written.

Oh god, I seriously thought he had died for a second there... Jesus christ, OP, could you be any more melodramatic? Why not add "He's in a better place now" or "He crossed the rainbow bridge" or something?
