I'm trying to build my ideal party for my first play through and shale really appeals to me, but I can't tell if I should take him along for the first time because i'm not sure what he does exactly. From the trailer i can tell he uses earth magic, but does he function as a tank or mainly as damage?

He's a beast. He will tank, DPS, CC, AoE, Ranged DPS and Heal.
Um... I really don't know. I think he's a tank though (must stress THINK).

I'm guessing he'll fill the "Arcane Warrior" type spot. He'll be able to take damage but I wouldn't have him as your only tank.

Considering that he's a golem and your party members are customizable, I'd say you can turn him into either a tank or a dpser.

I was planning on having him be my public relations officer due to his soothing voice and friendy demeanor, but you can send him into combat if you really want to.

From the trailer it appears he'll be a tank/AoE guy, but there hasn't been much info on him so I couldn't say for certain.

I think it really is going to depend how you custimize him...jsut from the videos it looks like he has quite a few ranged attacks to me, I'm hoping I can add him to my "all mage" play through and have it fit.

He will be very versatile he equips crystals and gains powers...So im gonna guess there will be a tanking crystal which increase defense and add to fists. Then earth, fire, poison, frost, and maybe spirit? No idea but this is what i am gonna assume.

Oh Yeah, definatly a tank. He'll hold my opponent's attention nicely while I get my licks in.

I guess he'll probably be a tank, he looks kinda tankish to me anyway.
I do hope that he'll not kill every chicken in the game =P

As far as I can tell, he kills chickens, everything else is pure speculation

"Are you a god?"
"More or less, Toblakai. Does that frighten you?"
Ublala Pung shook his head. "I've met gods before. They collect chickens."
"We possess mysterious ways indeed."

Shale reminds me off Brock Lesnar. If a tad more friendly version.

i agree about him being quite useful. i love his humour too, reminds me of HK-47 from SW KotOR

The guy is a pure beast for tanking and especially AoE tanking. However he can switch on a dime to a very respectable DPS class on the fly when needed. His RNG stance is a little trickier to understand but against those pesky casters standing at max range or behind a group of mele he can make the difference.

I put him in as tank because i wanted him along when I did Orzammar and he rocked at it so much that I may not give the spot back to Alistair.

this
Tankin' and spankin' is what use I have of Shale. Not only does the golem have nifty aoe, but also a much more badass personality than tha wuss Alistair.

The only bad part about him is when you cannot take him into a certain part of the game. If you don't have another tank you are pretty screwed.
Oddly enough the forced grouping at points in the game is my only real gripe.

The point is that the thread was originally asking for information/speculation on something that wasn't available as the game was not released. I figured it was found via some sort of search, but if you would read the OP and look at the time stamp one would realize that it's no longer relevant. It has nothing to do with reading every post.Seebeh wrote...

He plays EVERY role! Tanking, melee DPS, ranged AoE, Buffing. People say mages are overpowered and trivialize the game. I'd say Shale is just as bad...

Why does everybody keep refering to shale as a male?
Simply call her it if you don't want to accept the truth x)
