It's not only because of meta-game reasons, it's one primary reason: the Casteless. Harrowmont appears to be a good ruler to some people, but in fact, he similar to Cailan (who was a terrible king) - lost in his own fantasy, denying reality and basically just favoring those who are wealthy enough to support him. He even willingly puts Orzammar in danger, what kind of idiot king is this?

Not the one with family blood on his lips, as Bhelen directed others to do his dirty work for him.

The Casteless system has apparently been in place for a very long time, and is in need of change. Bhelen prefers tyranny and micro-managing the situation for his perceived fix. I am willing to wait for a better long term solution, at least most of the time.

Too bad the the alternative is not a long term solution but an Orzammer that's in a even worse situation than before: still no king but now even nobody who could become one.

Maybe; maybe not. Some were considering change before the election, so perhaps after Harrowmont dies, more influence for this is allowed to grow in the Assembly. And after the Harvester critters escape and the Casteless events uncovered by Awakening are entered into the Shaperate, maybe the Warden Paragon's own House becomes a beast of influence.

As for Bhelen, simply another tyrant living off the blood and sweat of others.

Everything the warden hears is opinion. The only thing they all seem to agree on is Bhelen had his brother killed and framed his other sibling for it. None of my good wardens would put him on the throne.

i'm playing a Dalish elf good guy run through, i'm a little on the "savage" side but none to less a good guy that makes the right decision for mankind.

my problem is I've been picking Harrowmont my last 2 run throughs and this being my last one before DA2 and the one i will import i want it to be right. I want to pick Bhelen for the sake of being different then my other games but do  not want to sacrifice my Characters integrity/Honor. Once you get the whole murder my brother plot out the way it really seems like bhelen is trying to better orzammar with a new way of life (which is shown in the epilouge, and how the castless are giving a chance). i also remember reading how most dwarven kings took the throne through murder (so bhelens way is not uncommon, if unjust).

so in short can Bhelen be put on the throne while my Warden keeps a "good guy" persona.

You're thinking in overly black & white terms, and that just doesn't work for Dwarven politics as depicted in-game. Neither is more honorable than the other, and as the former second of King Endrin, Harrowmont certainly has been involved to some degree in political assassinations. Harrowmont doesn't hesitate to buy votes, either.

What makes Bhelen the winner in the eyes of my characters who favor him is that he is more open to change, and interested in pursuing a more aggressive campaign against the Darkspawn (good for the Wardens, imo) - and business-as-usual hasn't been working so well for the Dwarves.
