Overall, insanity difficulty was fairly easy. There were only a few fustrating parts such as the last battle on horizon with the two scions and all the husks. Also, when you explore the disabled collector vessel and you get ambushed on the platforms can ba a pain as well. I might also recommed that you play as a sentinel the insanity difficulty would go very easily for you because they are built to handle every type of situation and are given tech armor.

first insanity playthrough and i got killed at least 3 times at the end of the mordin recruitment mission, probably doesnt help that i picked Engineer (worst class IMO, but i wanted to be able to upgrade all the weapons easier and cheaper).

Huh, I just finished my second Insanity Playthrough on my Engineer and I found it to be fairly easy.  Hardest parts for me was probably Kasumi's mission, the damn gunship battle, but was fairly straightfoward otherwise all things considered.  Combat Drone is such a nice power.

I'm fairly sure I beat Mordin's mission end segment first try.  Surprised me at first, I was expected a lot more difficulty.  Don't be afraid to use heavy weapons, they're there for a reason.  <3 Arc Projector.

I've always wondered if a common lvl-30 Blue Suns Trooper on insanity have the same stats as your squad with full upgrades, ie, 240 health, 350 or 375 shields, and five AR upgrades for their Avenger, or if insanity is just arbitrary health and damage buffs to make it harder, for the sake of being harder. If it's the former, then insanity is a testament to the combat system in that you are really facing enemies of equal level. From my experience it does look like it, but I'm not sure.

I play nothing but Insanity now. There are a few fights I struggle with but overall it's pretty manageable and I usually get killed through stupidity rather than being outclassed.

The important thing is to understand how to play your character class effectively. There's usually more than one way to do that.

Umm... yes - new DLC, give the Heavy Charge ability to enemy Vanguards and have them do that mercilessly :P - give them a Claymore as well. That should solve the "difficulty" issue.

No need for DLC. Just play with the basic weapons (Shuriken, Predator, Katana, Mantis and Avenger) only. Do not research any upgrades throughout the game. No heavy weapons and medigel. No DLC stuff either, obviously (no DLC powers, weapons or armor).

You can use Gibbed's to raise difficulty to level 6 (Insanity is level 5); enemies receive a 10k bonus to both health and defenses :o

I played the game on hardcore for months before doing insanity, and now that is all I play.  Its true that the more you play the better you get and insanity is easier cause you know how to play it - stay in cover, choose good weapons/squadmates, etc.  Most of you probably forgot how many times you got clocked the first time you played the collector ship trap - I did not think it possible on insanity for the longest time.

If you do some of the things Konner says it will make it a lot harder.  What the DLC does ( in addition to some different missions where you don't know them backwards and forwards ) is upgrades that give you an edge.  I like those edges because I can take non-optional squadmates on the different missions and still be effective.  I played with Jack thru almost the whole game with soldier because I can strip the defenses with guns so she can use pull field all over the place -- it adds a lot of change to the game to keep it interesting, in addition to seeing all the dialog from the characters.

After watching this thread a while I was temped to post this comment about folks saying how easy the game was on insanity ( which I don't think )

To all those who are saying they don't need heavy weapons ( or xxx ) to play this game,
and infer that those who do are inferior players. Well, let my outline your logic:

Real Men don't:

(1) play on any setting other than insanity
(2) use reave
(3) use soldier class because of AR
(4) use heavy weapons
(5) use cover
(6) use medigel
(7) use squadmates
(8) wear armor pieces - should fight in shorts
(9) use any gun other than xxx ( xxx = revenant, claymore )
(10) need to collect or purchase any power or weapon upgrades

Yes, I guess I'm not in that class.

I'm playing at "insanity" as a soldier and am finding it difficult with collector missions. I'm at the 2nd section on the suicide mission (where you use a biotic, Samara in my case, to shield you from the seeker swarms) and you have a MILLION HUSKS and a SCION kicking your butt. I've yet to get past this part, it is SO INSANE! Other missions are actually fun, if you stay in cover and use ammo, powers and squadmates wisely, you can overcome the opposition. However, the collector stuff at this point is pretty much OVERWHELMING for me.

LOL - yeah use Cain at that spot :lol::lol:

Everyone dies :devil::devil::devil::devil: including you.

Edit:
umm... maybe you can... if u judge the distance just right  (between the Scions and the Husk) - but using nuke at such close proximity would be ... challenging  :D

It is easy really. Equip Cain and look for the Scion - if you remain near the centre of the biotic bubble and fire Cain at the Scion the moment it pops up around the corner - you're done. Fight is over (before it even got started) and it's pretty much risk free. I never commited suicide at that spot, timed right you're not hurt (by Cain) at all.

I actually blew myself away the first time I use Cain. I though Bioware was only exaggerating the "nuke" part... they are not :crying:. After that, I dont really use it that much :P

I guess I will stay with the more "conventional" weapons
