is it possible to re-create the various differences between the weapon types in the 3 families of "blunt", "edge", "pierciing"?

I know that hammers are more useful against enemies with heavy armors, but i don't know how it is handled.

so one could split it between "raw damage, armor penetration + ?"

I think that this could be possible after a better understanding of combat mechanics.
