Why does an infinite amount of mercs spawn in Amkethran if you decide to mouth off the Mercenary Captain who likes to summon and kill creatures for sport?

I've been fighting these retards for two hours and still they keep coming. You'd think that they'd eventually get a hint or that five thousand mercs don't really fit into two small tents.

What's up with this? Is this just horrible level design or a bug? Now I can't take a step around Amkethran without being attacked by an army... not to mention Sarevok, being just a fighter, got his arse handed to him at one point and now I can't find his equipment in the sea of merc corpses that are all over the place.

I could of course cast Power Word: Reload, but crap like this really impacts my enjoyment of the game.

I suspect the whole word is suffering a glut of unemployed mercenaries. As plentiful as rats. They trickle out only because they're convinced you're at death's door and are ripe for their kill shot. They're always wrong, but that's how they think.

I vaguely remember the same happening to me last time I played ToB. Very funny.

I'm pretty sure they stop spawning eventually, or perhaps they're scripted to stop after you clear the ones around the gate, certainly I ran out of them eventually when I did this.

i never ran out either - that was 3+ hours ago easily. i was using the infinite spells strat + planetar army. i can permanently maintain 30 or so planetars running about; the game lags horribly. . . the corpses are starting to stack, some of the bodies have 20 or so armors/potions in the same spot. i think it is a bug, i racked up almost a thousand kills here, similar to sendai's abode. most of my chars are at/near level 30.
