I'm actually very happy that Morrigan will return. How can this be a bad thing?! The more familiar faces, the better.

I partially agree, but only if we get to slap her and permanently neglect her from our parties. That was my reaction to her in DAO, in any case. She's the type who'd disapprove if you don't burn down the local orphanage, which struck me as puzzling since she was ocassionally more cold-hearted than the game's other foes, yet we couldn't simply kill her.

As for the Fade, hopefully they can think of a way of making it interesting this time. Super-easy enemies plus heaps of backtracking made it one of the most boring sections of DAO.

Good god the Fade. *sighs heavily* It wouldn't be so bad if something new happened for each origin but it doesn't. It's the exact. same. thing.

Personally, I do hate Morrigan. She was annoying and her voice was annoying. I hated how she thought she was better than everyone and so I look forward to killing her in Witch Hunt when I get Dragon Age Ultimate Edition.

With that being said. Well done Bioware. I hate Morrigan because of her personality not because she is a rubbish party member or has terrible voice acting (it was annoying though).

Gaider's said in previous threads that the mark of a good character is one who elicits strong reactions--adoration, hate, etc.  Morrigan certainly fits the bill.  I loved her.  She was my big sis.

That being said, I am suffering some hype backlash with her.  Last time I checked, she wasn't the protagonist of either story, nor was she the most important/powerful character EVAR in Thedas.  I'd be happy to see her in DA2 for an hour or two.

God help us. Am I the only who hated her?

I liked Morrigan. She's an interesting character who was dealing with really venturing outside the Kocari Wilds for the first time in her life; an illegal mage who was going to help save a nation that hates and fears all mages because of a story that the Chantry claims is the inception behind the Blight. The biggest argument I've heard about her is that she disapproves of certain choices, but Morrigan disapproves when the Warden elects to do quests that detract from the main mission of saving all of Ferelden, like resolving a dispute over food or helping a Dalish boy score with his dream girl. In her POV, she figures the Warden needs to resolve the dilemma that threatens all life, and the Warden's busy playing match maker? She's helping the Warden save a nation that's hunted her and others like her down to the death. Even when it comes to the dark ritual, her goal is to preserve something no one has any real understanding of. The dark ritual consists of her wanting to preserve the soul of an old god untainted by darkspawn, and given her desire to be left alone, I don't see how this is evil. It's only a dark ritual because it involves blood magic, but all it does is preserve your life from the destruction of your body and soul.

Lol hated him. Even before dwarven noble origin which reveals the full range of his crimes. He basically murders his whole family to become king. He is truely evil in my eyes. The only thing I like about him is that he gave me an easy choice to support Harrowmont. Something we don't agree either I guess Posted Image I can't say I like evil characters. What I like in supposed evil characters is when I can understand their motivation. Like Loghain.

LOL He's not that evil. If he was the dwarves wouldn't have improved. Posted Image

Bhelen's trying to make the dwarven kingdom better for himself and ends up making it better for a lot of other people as well. It may not be the nicest way but it got results. Which to my warden was all that mattered.

I dislike Loghain. I understand why he did it but he hasn't survived any of my games. I marry off Alistair and Anora and feed Loghain to the archedemon.

At least he can redeem himself with that.

(Then again I play human nobles who blame him and Howe for their family's slaughter. They see Loghain and see their nephew on the ground dead and just go into a berserker rage).

Though I just saw the second part. The fade. Oh god no. Not again. Never again! *cowers*

The Fade was horrible.

Well Bhelen doesn't exactly do it for the benefit of Orzammar. Everything he does he is doing for himself only. That it ends up so well for him and benefits all dwarves is sort of ironical, but such things happen. Harrowmond is a weak leader but a good man at heart. Thing is if you play dwarven noble, Bhelen is basically trying to kill you even though nobody can at this point say whether you are good or bad for Orzammar. I mean you could have done the same things as him. But that doesn't matter to him. He wants to be king, no matter what. And that's why it was a pleasure for me to keep it from happening. Btw, if you play dwarven origin and place Harrowmont on the throne you get to follow him on the throne when he passes away.

Why is Bhelen's ambition so bad? He gives more rights to the casteless, he regains lost thaigs, he improves the relations with the surface world, and he's seen by many as a great reformer. Harrowmont, on the other hand, wants everything to remain exactly as it is - including the casteless, who have no rights and are treated as less than people by the nobles like Harrowmont. As King, Harrowmont leaves Orzammar in ruins - he's a bad leader, the casteless are still in the same place they have been for centuries, there's no trade with the surface world, and the suface world can attack Orzammar if Branka was supported because Harrowmont is incapable of handling her.

Yeah, that article was just mining from that interview with Laidlaw posted a couple days ago where he simply said they weren't done with Morrigan's story. But she isn't coming back for DA2- Gaider said at PAX that there will be no Claudia Black VO in DA2 and given how WH ended I doubt Morrigan will show up except maybe at the very very end.

Or at least thats what I hope- have the last scene be the world at war, the Chantry in ruins, Flemeth doing who knows what. Pan over to some dilapidated Eluvian in some Elven/Tevinter ruin only to see a foot step out of the portal, followed by 2 other people- slowly pan up to reveal Morrigan, the Old God Kid and the Warden back to kick some ass and save the day! Hoooooray!

Seriously i really have no problem with you getting that, provided your willing to allow me my own version which goes something like this;

Pan over to some dilapidated Eluvian in some Elven/Tevinter ruin only to see a foot step out of the portal, slowly pan up to reveal Morrigan. The camera futher pans back to show my warden standing next to Leliana with an arrow drawn. With a nod my warden signals to Leliana to release the arrow which is released with a slow motion following of the arrow while in flight. The arrow slams into Morrigan's forehead snapping it back spraying warm blood on the shimmering surface of the once fluid Eluvian. Morrigan then falls to her knees, then falls to her face with the protruding arrow forcing her head back at an unnatural angle, as a pool of blood starts to collect around her still warm but lifeless body. The warden then turns to her love, with a peck on the cheek and a slap on the ass says," half of the problem is solved now let us go find Flemeth and end this nonsense once and for all".

Asai

I'm going to take a wild guess that you aren't a fan of Morrigan. As for Leliana killing Morrigan, I don't think it's realistic. Like Wynne, Leliana disapproves if the Warden decides to lie to Morrigan about Flemeth being dead. Despite their arguments about the Maker, Leliana doesn't think Flemeth should be spared if it means that Morrigan would end up dead.

I do.
I really did think her character had allot of potential... but she really does end up being single minded, selfish, and one dimentional. (imo)

She's an illegal mage who helps the Warden save a nation that reviles and hates mages outright, regardless of whether they're under the thumb of the Chantry or not. How is that one-dimensional? Nothing in DA is black and white. Characters like Sten, Wynne, and Morrigan are given dimension. Every one of the companions has their reasons for aiding the Warden. No one is wearing a white or black hat in this game, and it’s something I credit the creators for. Morrigan is the pragmatist to Alistair’s idealist. She's helping the Warden save Ferelden. She argues for results that enpower the Warden. Her opinions tend to walk that line based on Flemeth's teachings. I think she's a complex character.

Of course there would be a difference...for one, people wouldn't bed her. But as long as her personality is hte same, that would be the only difference.

I take it your pro-Chantry and anti-mage stance has everything to do with that particular feeling.

Just like George W bush was a brilliant and eloquent speaker, in a "How do you retarted and bumbeling enough to embody both  jock and souther trailer trash at the same time" Sort of way.

Morigan being messed up doesnt make her cool or interesting. It just makes her messed up.
If she had the capacity for change or growth or evolution, then her messed up past would make her more interesting.
As it stands, her character has a 1 dimentional personality, and 3 dimentional brests.

And the later is the real reason people like her.
At least I hope so. If people are really attracted to a "Survivial and power are the only things that matter. So bash that baby kitten against a tree, or you are WEAK!!!" personality, then there is little hope for the world.

@ Zenjamin

Nice very nice Posted Image i am so glad i am not the only one it seems to think Morrigan is over rated wilder trash, and am looking foward to the time when by either a knife to the belly or complete disregard by the player, Morrigan's story can finally be over.

@ TheBlackBaron
Like my self i have tried to find SOME redeeming quality concerning Morrigan and so far i have found nothing worth all the drama concerning her character. Since my very first play through i found nothing her character brought to the game in any way shape or form except some sort of twisted souless adversary at war for my own immortal soul, probably because she lacks one of her own. I have tried on several occasions to involve Morrigan in the game, warden number 6 brought Morrigan everywhere and followed her advice every time, seriously what i walked away with was a WTF is her problem. I then posted my issues with Morrigan, after sorting pages and pages of  "you suck" replies,  finally a rational person (shocking that there are a few still around on the Inet) suggested i try again. So out comes warden number 14 to again try to find some reddeming quality in Morrigan, i could not stand the play to the point i almost stopped playing DAO all together as i was so disgusted with the Morrigan character. Finally someone pointed out that you can just cut Morrigan loose in Lotharin which i have done in every play since 15 to the just finished 22, the game has never been better for the cutting.

@ Bioware
I bought WH on the off chance that i could actually kill Morrigan as i was hoping, since you decided to allow the decision sets to carry over from DAO to DA2, to just remove Morrigan from my story entirely by her death. See i have only 2 characters out of 22 that involved Morrigan, her DR, and the god baby other than that she is irrelevant. She is so irrelevant that she can be totally ignored left to rot along side Allistair in camp or she can be removed from the party entirely on the steps of Lotharin (preffered way to play). The whole reason i bought WH was i was under the impression i could kill her finally removing this irrelevant distraction from the story, but even with WH i was denied the satisfaction of killing her. When gutted the harpy will fall back into the mirror (convient and cheap plot armor, you suck) and like a bad penny to return some day to plague me. Even gutting the tart felt anticlimactic, as i have said numerous times, like crushing the head of a mewling helpless kitten, so even there i was robbed of much deserved and anticipated satisfaction (again you suck). This theft was in part due to the character change presented in WH, from Morrigan the worthy adversary to Morrigan the helpless "i have always relied on the kindness of strangers" character worthy of only pity. I find this character change to be a lame assed attempt to sell the lemon that is Morrigan by generating a feeling of guilt that to hate Morrigan is to equate with being a puppy stomping fascist. Cheap and low kind of like Morrigan so i guess it is apropriate.

I hear rumors of her involvment in future installments of the DA franchisePosted Image and i wince everytime. These rumors involve the canonization of her and her accursed demon baby, or some kind of fight against Flemeth. The truth of the matter is i trust Flemeth so much more that Morrigan that i will be seriously pissed if i am thrust into a position where i have to support, or god forbid assist MorriganPosted Image, so much so i would rather go buy and play another game. Flemeth was sold to me by her story, her voice actress (Kate) blowing Claudia away, and her actions by saving the wardens, such that anyone who is against Flemeth is against me, and all who assist Morrigan should die slow and painful deaths prefferably at my hands, I am thinking something like getting all Howe on thier asses. This is a decision i would hope you allow me and those like me who think Morrigan is an overrated and one dimensional character, to make. Flemeth or Morrigan, in the time it took you to read thier names the decision was already made Flemeth shall rule and if it requires Morrigan's death, wow a bonus too boot.

@ everybody who is about to fire up thier flame throwers
If Morrigan looked like Flemeth, not a single I Posted Image Morrigan thread would exist, that is because she is a shallow one dimensional character who has only a nice rack to provide any reason to tolerate her nonsense. My opinion is based upon the character only as she is presented in the game, i am not discussing books comics or anything else, if it is not in the game it does not exist. The game failed to provide in that context a reason as to why someone would care what happens to Morrigan, worm food, Flemeth's new meat suit, both work for me. As a mattter of fact i like "Flemeth's new meat suit" so much that from now on i will reffer to Morrigan as "Flemeth's new meat suit"Posted Image in the hopes that it happens, Morrigan's body with Flemeth driving, now that is something worth the drama.

Asai

While I mostly agree with you, on the comment about her rack being the only hing that others like, I'm not sure about that. Mind you, I'm sure that without it, there would be very few Morrigan threads, but probably there would still be some for the overly sensitive people who probably dabbed their eyes everytime she talked about her childhood.

In regards to black-and-white, Bioware did make two characters who were pretty mcuh nothing but monsters; Vaughan and Arl Howe (well, Howe is understandable. The man was voiced by Tim Curry).

I had the same thought, & the supporting evidence that he was a friend of the Warden's father, that always ends badly, look at the King Cailan/Loghain/Maric situation.

whats wrong with you people? --o.O->

Morrigan is 'tee most awesome character in DA:O. I agree with Zenjamin that "her opinions on survival and power were completely self serving, but that is exactly what a game like that need. A mysterious women who crave for power and leen towards the darker path; if a thousend innocent people get between her and har goal... well to bad for them. just imagine how the game would be like if it were not for characters like morrigan and shale, everyone would be jumping around in a damned forest gathering flowers and hugging trees, and we can't forgett that they would also ask every bloody persone they meet if they need help taking out the garbage and washing the dishes.

Like Anders in DA:O-A he was an apostat and had some very funny comments, but he was a bloody damned softhearted p****, good thing oghren was there, he was the only cool character in awakening. now i have gone a little off track but my point is that morrigan was one of the things that made this game great, and i Really Really hope she will make a reapperence in the second or even the 3 game. and playing through the Wicth Hunt DLC and get a chance to reunite with her was just awesome, that's what i call a good ending (it was really the ending for the warden commander, since the second game is going to focuse on hawke and not the warden-commander) ;)

Haflway through the game I figured out a way for my warden to be friends with Morrigan, I pretty much left her in camp. That way we could have nice chats by the campfire and have a friendship and I could act the way I wanted to without being reminded that there are somethings about her that I just don't like, I tend to play good characters. My husband ended up doing the same thing. I liked her better this way, there was just a bit too much, Morrigan disapproves, for her to work with my warden =)

^I felt the same. Alot of her suggestions came across as mean-spirited. Like encouraging the Warden to kill all the mages who survived the Circle rebellion. It had nothing to do with pragmatism; she was just being a turd. My mage wanted to slap her. Or, looking for the blacksmith's daughter in Redcliffe castle. It wasn't interfering with the mission at all because we had to go anyways and she still complains.

I am very confused at the vitriol in this thread. Morrigan exists at the end of DA:O and her personality and powers are such that she's unlikely to retire in Sunnyville, Florida. Why does the mere fact that an NPC has a life separate from the PC bother people? NPCs are supposed to be their own people, not planets circling the PC's sun.

I didn't like romancing Morrigan, but I loved her friendship diologue. So I'll be glad to see her cameo.

The fade on the other hand, I hated with the passion of a thousand burning suns. That I won't be happy to see return.

I like Morrigan and the Fade, and I'll be happy with pretty much anyone/anything that returns.

So long as it's not that whiney harpy Isolde.

I actually liked Morrigan once I involved my warden in a romance with her. I took her along on all the missions during that run and found out what a complex character she indeed is. I am glad she is making an appearance.
