I prefer the changes to Dragon Age 2 as well. Those people who are afraid of changes or what I like to call them "Dragon Age Republicans" are stopping Bioware from reaching their full potential. They are afraid of words like mainstream, simplified and DLC. They want Bioware to be stuck in the past where they create dated games to fulfill their nostalgia
Love the direction this game is going!

Right, but you think the same thing. Dragon Age should stay as close to Origins as possible because you like that sort of game, and not any other.

Indeed! Dragon Age Republicans... LOL!
I myself I'm looking forward to DA2 with a positive mindset. I don't like all the things I've heard, but none of them are deal breakers for me yet.

Let me add to the positiveness. I'm ready for "different". I welcome it.Mike Laidlaw wrote...
Just to note, it's nice to see a thread that's positive. As I've said before, I totally understand the concerns around DA2. It's different, and different could be a bad thing. It could also be a good thing, and I'm glad some folks are excited by the changes.
A while back, I was a big NWN fan, and was ready for something different back then too. So I bought Dragon Age. It was different. Loved it.
Lets do that again.

But you didn't criticize the poster for any of that. There are many layers of pot-kettle here.

First of all if FPS are not big sellers, I wouldn't even bother recommending it, but they are. Just look at the sales, it's not just "my preferences", it's the millions out there. PC games are not as dominate as they were, so why I got into my "inner console kiddie" and suggest that to Bioware. If these rumors of Bioware developing a military FPS are true, then Bioware must think the same. Now if a Baldur's Gate type game or whatever game you DARs reminisce and get all teary sells very well, I would recommend that but they are not. And suggesting it like it's some big seller is delusion.

If it's up to them, they would put borders around the Bioware offices to prevent those changes from getting in and they would patrol inside the building approaching any suspicious people and ask their papers. If they don't have them, they would deport them.

Also, I agree wholeheartedly.
Nice to see someone who isn't throwing a tantrum over change.
Those throwing said "Temper tantrums" are the supposed "Hardcore" players. And that is exactly what they are doing, throwing a fit like a 5 year old because DA2 isnt going to be a carbon copy of DAO. They're afraid of change. And anything that steps outside of their preordained "scope of reality" is immediately dismissed and considered "bad" by default before even giving it a chance.

Can everyone who uses this argument please cut off their own penis? This would be certainly a change and as such nothing to be afraid of, and it has to be experienced first hand before one can tell whether they're going to like it or not, right?Aradace wrote...

Back in my day FPS games were PC games developed by PC companies. The oversaturation of them has made them less popular.
But I wonder where those companies went.
How far back should I go? From the top of my head there's Id is developing a game called Rage and shows some promise that it's not some corridor shooter like they always make. Monolith who developed the No One Lives Forever series created the F.E.A.R. series. Ion Storm are currently developing Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Yes, some of those companies went under because some of them failed to create an interesting FPS. But some like Looking Glass made some amazing and unique games, but still sold poorly and the company gone under. So are you suggesting if Bioware start to develop FPS, they're going to go under? If that's so, I'll bet against that.

Ya know, preferring to play roleplaying games does not make you 'better' than the 13 year old kid playing Gears of War.
And it's really sad that seem to think so. And funny.

Agreed!
But I am superior to Starcraft II players because I play Europa Universalis III.

Ion Storm are long dead, probably because none of their games other than the original Deus Ex sold particularly well. Deus Ex HR is being developed by Eidos Montreal, and will be their first game.

I never played the game but before Bioware developed the first Baldur's Gate they made Shattered Steel. From what I read it's a first-person shooter where you ride giant mech and includes multiplayer. Where Bioware is now? Well, I suppose they are doing okay.

You're comparing chopping off one's penis to a VIDEO GAME. The fact that you're even making that comparison makes me laugh histerically (and possibly meniacally) Seriously, it's apples and oranges. Try again and maybe I'll grace you with a proper answer

No, i'm giving an example which rather clearly demonstrates that it is possible for reasonable human being to assess whether they will like a change without trying it first hand. And that they can have reasonable reasons to dislike a change. Your objection of "but it's VIDEO GAME" makes no sense, because it sounds like you are trying to say that because it's VIDEO GAME we mysteriously loose our ability to evaluate impact of changes in advance which we do have otherwise.Aradace wrote...

But fine, let's make argument limited to VIDEO GAMES. Imagine a game where your character always dies 10 seconds after you start. It's certainly a change from how the VIDEO GAMES normally do it. Are you going to insist that because it's VIDEO GAME one cannot tell in advance they wouldn't enjoy such change very much, and that they are just "afraid of it" and that they must try it first before they declare that hey, whaddyaknow, they indeed don't like it?

I'm actually in my 20's playing GoW. I didn't really take offense to what that person mentioned. If that person wants to think he/she is better because he/she into LARP, plays Dungeons and Dragons in a basement and plays RPGs video game then he/she has every right to.
