Ironically, my DA:O mage (and previously a mage/warrior I played in D&D) was named Garrett.
No reason to change that now, if you ask me.
What will you name your Hawke?

Since the name is completely and utterly irrelevant for the game, I'll probably name him something unfitting. Like "Higinio", or "Tiburcio".

Female: Eithne meaning little fire...
Male: Myke... yes but only because there's a real person named Mykel Hawke and he's bad ass.

For my first playthrough, Matthias, same thing I use in every fantasy RPG. My first D&D charater. Yeah, I just took the latin form of my own name. I'm that creative.

I'm going to use William (warrior, diplomatic, nice guy), Dante (rogue, aggressive, power hungry) and Amelia for femHawke.
I had a Human Mage Warden named Raithe so I thought it would be cool to have a Mage Hawke with a similiar sounding name since their relatives and the best I have come up with is Reave and Raine (I know JRPG sounding but its the best I can come up with).

I really like Sigvatr though it may be weird to have several heroes with the same name. Hm.

Probably the standard-ish Garrett, but I'm also considering Gaider to honor, well, Mr. Gaider. It's only tentative for now, though: by the time the game releases, I'll have five more names and will have to face one of the most difficult dilemmas possible.
Should I, however, decide to go with a female Hawke, she can only be named Evangeline. That being said, I'd like to hear each character's voice now...

Why let us name Hawke at all? Yeah, its a blast for some people to have Mike Hawke, but no body's ever doing to say your first name. Why not have a first name that people will actually call you by?

Because letting us name the PC help distinguish the different runs?
That's the point of naming the PC, so when you check which savegroup you want to import you just read the big letters in the name, rather than checking the hour of the last save (which is usually tinier and thus harder to read for some).
