If they say something to that effect when you click on them, that's terrific.  If there's a market on the map, will that disappear when we disable plot helpers (I hope so)?

I'm not sure. I think the plot helpers specifically refer to the floaties that appear over the heads of quest-givers and targets, as well as the direction to those plot helpers that appear on the mini-map. The reminders on the world map direct you to quests that you're already aware of (and have been told where to go).

Keep in mind that all of this is still in flux. Anything could change-- heck, for all I know you could indeed end up having a crowd of followers standing in your foyer. Posted Image

Ok since the game is taking place over 10 years and the companions are leading their own lives, what happens to gear you put on them before they return home?

Any gear you're able to give them remains on them, just as when party members were retired to the camp in Origins.

I think this leads to the question, can you ever lose gear given to your companions , and/or are you readily able to switch gear amongst your companions at any time?  Having to go see character X to get a dagger for character Y would be a real pain.

I am just getting more and more stoked about this game the more information you guys leak(?). I can not wait to see what you folks at Bioware have in store for us.

We had a crazy religious zealot as a part time assassin

and we had B*tch Witch.  Oh how I hated B*tch Witch.

Every time somone calls Leliana that, a little part of me that has faith in human intelligence dies a little.

it is ironic how most of the time the one who comments things like that, is a crazy atheist zealot, and yes those do exist =]

I'm one of those, and I can't stand it when folks get righteously indignant about religion in fiction.

Which leads to the question, does hell exist in DA?

I have no idea.  I don't pay nearly as much attention to the Codex and lore as many others.  I'm sure someone else could answer.

According to the Chantry, some spirits get stuck wandering the Fade instead of crossing over to the Beyond to be by the Maker's side, presumably because they didn't have enough faith or somesuch before their death. Other than that,  can't really think of a "hell" equivalent in Thedas. The Dalish also believe that spirits cross over to the Beyond (across the "veil" ) when they die, I believe.

it is just as bad to oppose everything related to religion in fiction just because one is an atheist, as blindly supporting it just because in RL he/she isn't

I don't think that the religion of the Maker has a Hell, the closest you can come to it is wandering spirits that may  become demons and "lost souls", but I think that has more in common with purgatory as those spirits can still find their way sometimes

What kind of circumstances will these be in which you cannot choose the desired companions? (When they have their own problems?)

If it arises that you can't choose someone, it will be for reasons that are obvious at the time. More than that I'm not really going to say.

Example: Let's say, hypothetically, that Nathaniel is a companion. You would not be able to choose him during the time he goes back to Amaranthine for the stuff that happens in Awakening.

I thought Origins' dialogue system was one of the better ones BioWare has done, and think the whole wheel is one of their worst, so I'm skeptical. But I'll give it a shot.

But the Origins system is identical to KoTOR and Jade Empire. It is just the BG/NWN interface with a different camera to look slightly more cinematic (which all started with KoTOR).

Bioware only has ever done two dialogue systems. The Origins one, and then the wheel. They're working out the kinks in the wheel now. I think a good parallel is that PC VO is at such an infant stage right now - it's like old, old text based RPGs where you wrote out what topic of interest you had. That was just info dump - it wasn't even a conversation. That eventually developed into the KoTOR et al. system.

It'd be interesting if he came back after a certain period of time if your Warden in Awakening didn't gain his trust or make him a Grey Warden.  For that matter, I could see something like this with all the companions, only related to Hawke.  Miss something important with them and they leave after that period in the game for one reason or another.  Rivalry is one thing, they could stick around to see Hawke "wake up" from what they consider his dillusions, but I can't see them sticking around for 10 years if they've been ignored completely.

so I'm not going to be able to talk with my companions while I'm in the middle of the deep roads? disappointing, really disappointing. I tend to use conversations as a break between fights, tired of killing darkspawn? ask Leliana for a story. I hardly ever use the camp for conversations, only with the companions I don't bring along.

I hope that at least the conversations don't become available all at the same time after completing the main quests, I didn't like Mass Effect's conversation marathons, after talking with 2 companions in a row, the skip button becomes your friend.

Also, it annoyed me to no end that in Awakening my companions were able to talk between themselves whenever they wanted, but if it was I that approached them they'd say something like, "now is not the time" huh, do the others have preference?

I can see your point, but at the same time, do you see that it's kind of absurd to be on the deep roads and all of a sudden you turn to Sten and ask him what he thinks about cake?

It would also be cool if Nathaniel is a dark and angry character in the first 3 years of the game, then Evil Hawkette gets him all charged up to go back and claim what was taken from his family, only to have Nathaniel return late in the game as a powerful Grey Warden.  Most amusingly if he was influenced by a law and order Warden...

I agree the time jumps could be kick ass for all companions.  Like seeing Finn and Ariane after five years.  Finn rolling around in the garden playing with their kids...

Well, to clarify, I have no problem with the wheel itself- the structure of it is fine and all.

My issue is with the paraphrases, lack of full text, voiced PC, or being handheld into when and where you can talk to companions like Awakening. But all thats been discussed to death.:wizard:

The details of the conversation happened off-screen.

Nothing about that has changed.

no, not really, only if you're playing a very dedicated Sten-like character that never gets distracted from duty. In fact what I actually think that doesn't make any sense are dialog endings like come, we've got darkspawn to kill, if you're talking in camp.

Your point about camp is certainly fair, that is something that has always amused me.  :)  As for the serious mid-mission chats, I'd think that if you're in the deep roads... places lost to the darkspawn for hundreds of years...  you wouldn't spend much time doing anything but focusing on staying alive.

Ha ha ha... The first time Alistor talked to my warden about his feelings we were in the chamber with the green gas/fog and the attacking golems. I clicked on him by accident when trying to shut off the gas valve and so all through the dialogue he was getting blasted with the gas. He looked demented :P

LMAO!  That's freaking hilarious.  Your example also makes a perfect case for the change the devs made.
