Hi all,

I'm on my very first playthrough of DAO and I just left Lothering for the first time and am in Redliffe Village.  I'm playing a female City Elf DW Warrior with Alister as S&S tank, Leliana as Ranged Rogue and Morrigan.

However, I"m having some issues keeping Morrigan's approval.  It seems every other time I accept a side quest she makes a sarcastic remark about helping kittens in trees and her approval drops by 5 points.

I want to keep doing side quests as it's easy XP for faster leveling, but Morrigan seems to disagree. I found the Circle Mage during the Tower of Ishal very useful, so I want to keep Morrigan happy.  I've also heard her personal quest is important and interesting and I need her to at least be warm towards to do it.

What should I do?  Will benching her in exchange for someone more agreeable, like Sten or the dog, while doing side quests help?  As in, are party members' approval affected by your decision when they are not around?  And even approval is not affected, should I keep Morrigan in the party and relish the challenge of keeping her happy with gifts and such, or is it a near impossible feat with her?

Depending on which members make up your party, trying to keep Morrigan happy is a challenge at best. People like Alistair, Leiliana and Wynne will always choose the moral high ground. Bottom line - if you try to please Morrigan, chances are the rest ot the party won't like it.

Best advice I can give you is talk to her in camp one on one. Listen to all her tales and agree with her on her opnions. Also, Morrigan loves jewelry. Keep an eye out for the following items during your quests or if you see them at the vendors - giving them to her as gifts bumps up her approval rating:

Black Grimoire
Flemeth's Grimoire
Gold Amulet
Golden Demon Pendant
Golden Mirror
Golden Rope Necklace
Locket
Silver Brooch
Silver Chain
Silver Medallion
Tribal Necklace

Hope this helps! Posted Image

No, for the most part approval only changes for those in your active party, so change out party members before doing something they disapprove. Note also that Sten can be just as difficult as Morri when it comes to helping kittens.

Don't take her along when you do the redcliffe quest.  You should be fine with her for the others, as  they're not so disapproval-heavy.

Gaining approval with Morrigan is ridiculously easy.  You can get her to 70+  in camp....before you even set foot in Lothering.  You can gain another 20 in the circle tower even when you side with the mages and accept Wynne in your party.

Ok, thanks for the tips. I talked to her and humoured her (though, honestly, BioWare screwed up when they offered me but ONE non-"I should go" conversation option with Morrigan which pissed her off [for the record, it was, "Why are you still here?" <_<]) and even gave her some jewelery, but it's like two steps foward, two steps backwards. For reference, Alister has 13 approval, Leliana has 7. Had I not gotten so much disapproval from Morrigan, I'd probably have her at 20 by now.

I guess I'll just have to bench her for side quests, which kind of sucks, as I love listening to her and Alister bicker. :P

Just a note... the "why are you still here" dialogue option only appears when you talk to her outside of camp.

You do know that you can talk to your party members *at* camp, right? And that there's reams of different conversations that only appear there, yes?

You do not need a full party for the Redcliffe side quests. You can send party members away by clicking on the '3 people' icon.

Morrigan is not evil per se, she is tactless and does not see the necessity of helping people when you should be fighting the Blight. As noted above, she loves gold jewelry. The opportunities to earn her disapproval drop dramatically after Redcliffe, so you're getting the worst of it with this quest.

It appeared for me while talking to her IN camp when we were in camp for the very first time (just after leaving Lothering).

Which I'd agree with were it not for the fact I was playing an RPG. ;)

I've found that the easiest way to maintain positive approval with Morrigan without loading her up with gifts is to simply leave her at camp. You might have an easier time if you were playing an "evil" character, though if you don't help various people during side quests, you lose out on xp.

While Morrigan and Sten may disagree with you often when helping people, instead of solely focusing on the blight, they are also the easiest to max out approval with, from dialogue choices alone. The dragon age wiki can help with that.

Although I normally play as a good character I've always found it easy to keep Morrigan happy because the gold and silver jewelry that she's so fond of are just about everywhere.

Talking to her at camp and trying to be nice also helps. Finally, doing her personal quest and killing Flemeth will give you lots of approval with her.

Actually, it's just the start of the game. Morrigan will **** about everything you do but later in the game, her approval will hardly change (basically...after you left Lothering), gifts left aside.

At the circle of magi quest you'll come across an item that will greatly interest Morrigan. From there on you can bring her approval rating up from 47 or so to almost 90 like I did just by giving the item to her and then romancing her and picking the right options. But, yes, everything that deviates from your major goal to end the blight (or is seen as deviating) will in many cases result in approval points loss. She does like jewelry though... (being deprived of anything luxurious growing up in the unfashionable korcari wilds with a strict to say the least mother)

Remove her from party, grab quest(s), add her to party to nuke mooks, return to town, remove her from party, turn in. Problem solved.

Its really just early game quests. She's annoyed that she has to do any of this "hero" stuff, and will be so through Lothering and Redcliffe. Once you're done with those, its relatively safe to bring her along--she almost didn't leave my party in the second half of the game, and I had her to 100 approval without kicking any puppies or eating any babies.

Also, once you unlock their "Inspired" bonuses, their approval doesn't matter so long as you keep them from leaving.
