If you ate the bear you can't get Eternal rest. Instead you can learn to eat souls for people (not just spirits). But that's the hard way. You'll have to be careful.
You actually can still learn Eternal rest if you're sympathetic to the plight of the Old priest by the furnace..
As a side note, I almost always eat the bear... I understand good characters not running around eating folks willy nilly.. But this bear attacked you, was going to murder you and drag your corpse back to his cave, and wouldn't listen to any reason even though he had once been shown kindness by a previous spirit eater.. He was even going to kill an entire village to satisfy his blood lust.. If that's not Evil, I don't know what is.. I don't even see how a paladin can spare this bear. Honestly I think everyone spares him because he's rainbow colored and furry. Had he been black and scaly, I think he'd be as good as soul-less.

Yes, but you cannot learn it if you're evil, I think.

Yes, you learn either Eternal Rest or Gorge Spirit (I think that was the name).

My (neutral) character spared him because she wanted to prove to herself she was in control, not the hunger. Had nothing to do with right or wrong for her.
