There is not right or wrong answer here. Some people likes the new DA2 style and some don't. That's it. What ever the reasons are why someone likes or doesn't, who cares. Because there is allways someone who doesn't see them as good enough reason, because his/her own taste is different.

the problem is .... *snip*

Problem is that you did not understand word what I sayed. It doesn't matter what your opinion is or why you think others are wrong or right. Only thing what matters is that some people don't like it and some does. What ever they reasons are why it's so, has no meaning at all. It would be same as arguing why you like blue better than red.

If You like it or not you can say why for developers, but you can't argue agaist other liking or not, because it's personal taste issue.

your example would be really good if we say that one or both of the arguing persons over the colors are blind, and speak different languages to boot (or can't type understandable)

Nope, it's you who doesn't accept that someone has different taste. Because you think you reasons and taste is only valid one. Your taste is fine and as valid as others, but you can't define others taste what it should be or not.

Where were you on the last 5 or so pages? You accuse me of something that I explicitly stated the opposite of

sidenote: Ironicly your comment at top of page is still full with spelling issues even in the first sentence, despite that you heavily edited it...

the problem is that arguing against
those who dislike the size of weapons just don't listen to those who
actually know, wield, or make weapons, even if they are given real facts
they still just ignore them and based on their own ignorant ideals of a
"RL sword" they still continue to complain over the size of the sword
or the width of the blade in the high fantasy setting

You accuse others not to listen what you say, because what you say is REAL FACT in you opinion. My point is that if someone feels the swords is too big, it's they opinion as taste. Even if you as example feel it's actually too small, what ever reasons you have for it. You can't argue agaist others taste of graphics styles and what they like or not.

So, you start insulting my writing skills, even if english isn't my natural language.

Read what i wrote in the last few pages, then read the post you quoted carefully once more, then perhaps you realize what I actually wrotge and meant

No, english isn't my own language neither, I just point out that half the time I didn't even understand what the heck you wanted to say and reading your replies I am sure you didn't understand most of the time what I wrote neither, this is why recently I extra spell-checked and edited my posts to make it better but it seems it didn't work out in the end.

I agree, the only new posts are either about disagreements or misunderstandings/miscommunication due to being on an international forum.

Tell that to Clark Kent

Clark Kent/Superman is an alien

yep, and that is the explanation on how he can look weak while being super strong, on the other hand, there are multitude of reasons that can be made up why a person in a fantasy world can wield some extra large weapon, without the need to make the person look more muscular

An explanation does not a good explanation make.

And personally, I don't even like Superman (I prefer Batman)

Technicly correct, and yet not.
No one can tell one what one should FEEL, but the REASONING behind it can be utterly wrong.

Say I never saw a tiger. I had it described to me by a friend whom I trust. And that friend described it as elephant-sized with greenish fur.
Now you create a game with tigers and show me a screenshot of the tiger. I will feel it is wrong and I will rage against it.
Someone else poitns out that a giant green tiger is stupid.

Who is wrong here?

But Superman is in DA, Batman not. Unless Hawke is Batman.

so all in all by now you decided that no matter what arguments or examples others would bring up you still say they look stupid and thats it, k ^_^

It's how the personal preference and taste work, yes. Some people find body-builders look stupid for example, you can't really argue that on grounds of "but they are realistic" because it's not about realism but appearance.

I dont get these agruments that the swords are too heavy to be swung quickly. Characters in RPGs carry hundreds of pounds of weapons and armor in their backpacks WHILE fighting. These people are clearly stronger than your average human and to say that they have the strength to carry 10 suits of armor on their backs but not swing a 20 pound sword quickly seems silly.

Is there another trailer i missed ? I only saw the cgi trailer, and hawkes weapon seemed to be pretty light - a normal sword with a very long grip (basically a spear with a long tip)...

Edit: never mind, just saw the female warrior gameplay vid from gamefest.

Did some of you people not play Origins? Because there were swords much bigger then the one Hawke has in DA2.

To be honest I find the size of the swords to be just about right, it's the people that are just too small.

And people rage about that inventory thing too....humans in DA are supposed to be normal humans. So twirling MASSIVE swords and lugging around a whole armory goes contrary to that.

A clear case of fluff/lore/common sense conflicting with gameplay/mechanics

Yes, we have played. This issue with sword size isn't just sword size. It's go much deeper in physics. In my opinion the sword isn't really that big, maybe little bit, but not too big. How ever, when combinated it to action in animation, it becomes little bit silly.  Have you seen movie Conan the Barbarian and his swords. Huge mussles and tiny sword.

Here is easy way to see it:

Compare it to Hawke, big sword and swinging it around like very light knife. What's the problem? It starts to be unbelievable for human to handle it that ways. Yeah, DAO had little bit that problem too, but it was slower there. Now with much faster and exaggerated animation movements, it just look silly. "Cool" but silly.

Have you ever held anything comparable in weight (and length) to an actual weapon?  Maybe its just because my dad collects these sorts of things, but damn, the idea that you could wield a greatsword effectively in one hand, much less twirl it about like a baton, is absolutely absurd, as is the length of weapon's hilt.

I might be the only person who finds his ability to suspend disbelief challenged by particularly egregrious displays of something that actually exists (swordplay, which believe it or not :? exists outside of Tolkein's work/the waves of generic fantasy that followed), more than it is by something clearly not intended to reflect reality in any way (magic, whether literal, or in the guise of the dubious "technology" that permiates most science fiction)

Rakumn is correct, varric is narrating so he exaggerates hawkes speed with the blade, but in less exaggerated chapters it will still be faster than origins.
