I'll cry about how ugly they were if you want me to...

Though the clothes seem to have improved on the realism (possibly aesthetics as well but the Cailan dragon PJ armor and Beth's red bandanna outfit are questionable) in DA2. At least the Origins-style mage robes seem to have laces down the back this time.

@Provocativehotpants(teehee): No you're welcome to think they're silly, I just think arguments over the details of historical greatsword combat is equally silly.

And actually in the scope of all video games gravity is not the same.

Physics, these universes also defy normal physics
probably because of gravity

You might be right man.

I mean it explains everything, Giant swords, superhuman leaps and jumps, perfect racks.

definately on to something

It can even explain the mage hats and why Riordan survived that fall

Eh, I don't care so much that they reflect historical realism. They're tools, just like hammers, except made to kill people.

I'd be just as bothered by any other tool that alleged to accomplish a task it would, based on appearance, be ill-suited for.

Well, again, to be fair, they're not much different than they were in Origins, size-wise.

Image IPB

Granted, in Origins they didn't twirl greatswords with the finesse we've seen in DA2. But apparently they've made 2-handers swing slower now, to address that concern. Though I'd have preferred they cut the weapon size rather than slow the animation speed, if I had to choose between the two.

Hey you said the b-word, not me.

It's not even about the boobage, but the fact that the clothes tended not to have any way to get in and out of them, plus the noble clothing looking like it got run through a laminator by mistake. Don't even get me started on Beth's chain corset-skirt thing, which makes no sense at all.

I chalk it up to the rule of cool and the fact that there are no costume designers in the videogame industry. v:blush:v

I'm especially impressed by that chainmail underbust apron staying up without any sort of straps over the shoulders.  That thing must be seriously tight to stay up with how heavy chainmail is.

No, and indeed Age of Conan - a game I cite time and time again positively - had some big swords too, though they tend to "fit" better on male toons than female toons, where they look enormous by comparison since characters vary in size but not weapons.  That's why it's something that I just find annoying and not of any true importance.

Image IPB

And if you wanted to have a field day criticizing clothing and armor, Age of Conan is almost an embarassment of riches.  Especially the Herald of Xotli class pictured above.  Good lord.

Well, except the expansion.  They hit the ball out of the park aesthetically with that one.

realism in fantasy worlds just dont exist.  Not many people are going to notice or care like the OP.  I do see OPs note.  Which makes me wish there was a realistic medival combat set in historic times.  The setting as is is set with Magic, Metals that are lightweight and durable(mithral, etc), with Elves, dwarves, and dragons.  To say that how a sword is weilded as being unrealistic in its mechanics? why my friend, thats just ludicrous.Image IPB

And I'd view that as a non-sequitor.  The fact Thedas is a fictonal realm with magic has nothing to do with what size the weapons are unless they bother to explain how humans in Thedas are stronger per pound than real world humans.  I see nothing that would suggest this, and since the weaponry of Thedas is inspired by those of real world humans then any departure from them is an artistic decision and therefore one that is open to criticism over its aesthetics.

Real weapons were designed to be wielded by humans.

These weapons were designed because the art department thinks they look cool.  And they're welcome to their opinion.  I'm just as welcome to say that they look stupid.

Yes, exactly.  A fantasy game that is meant to be mostly about deep storytelling should hew close to the human side of things, the kind of stuff that helps us relate to the characters.  Of course we want to see a better, cooler version of what we could ever be, but too far out on the WOW COOL extreme and you start to lose the subtler drama.

Plus I just don't like the new art style in terms of the armor and arms, but that is my preference as well.

I know!! But even if it were seriously tight it still wouldn't give your waist a corseted shape. Poor Beth would be stopping the battle every 30 seconds to yank her chain apron back up too.

haha, i like the chainmail corset-skirt thingy. It looks like it was thrown over commoner clothing, like somebody who cant afford armor or a "normal" person preparing for battle with whatever they could find and peice together

Because once we establish that the gravity is off, it will cease to be Fantasy and will start being Sci-Fi

So then you truly can't have fantasy.

And then there was much rejoicing

Gravity differential effects stress on the lungs, proper adaptation would not be like an Earth born human would given such an outfit

I'm not talking about gravity, I am talking about compression. Unless her lungs have adapted to expand solely downwards, she isn't going to be able to breathe well at all with how tight that chainmail apron has to be to stay up.

You can oversized weaponry that seem to define gravity.

But in return. I want a spell. I want it to be an aoe, but not just any aoe, it'd be an aoe that kills everything in sight! Seemingly being ineffective against my party on any difficulty.

Nah, adds to defense.  Enemy too distracted to swing properly.

Now the chainmail apron, that's armor!

Perhaps her chest size is just side-effect of the lungs being basically pair of huge Bags of Holding, with unlimited air supply...

Would need something for proper circulation, though.
