Hello. I just started playing a mage on DAO and I am currently loving it. I am trying to plan for the future (Level 6 atm) and honestly I am lost and was hoping that I could get some help. Here are a few of my questions.

1- Right now I plan to get these spell chains:
Arcane (4)
Earth (2)
Fire (3)
Ice (3)
Heal (1)
That is 13 points right there. How many points do I have in total? Also what other chains should I consider getting? I like the mind blast and sleep chains, but I am afraid that I won't have enough points to get both.

2- Concerning specializations, I have a few worries. I know that I want to be a blood mage, but I am told that if I do choose that path then Wynne will leave my party. If that happens I would have to make myself or make Morrigan a healer. So, does this really happen? Also, is Blood Control a good spell to get? Concerning an Arcane Warrior, will I have enough mana to still cast spells constantly without being a blood mage?

3- Are there any other spells that are worth getting for a good dps mage? I am just asking because I do not feel like restarting my character. Thanks for everything that is provided. =)

Between tomes and bonus points and points from leveling, you'll end up with around 30-ish points by the end of the game, give or take a few depending on what you do and how much gold you're willing to shell out.

Don't bother with Wynne. I hate saying it because I love Wynne as a character, but I've always felt like Wynne has too much healing and not enough...other stuff. I get on fine with my mage and Morrigan having only heal, and just using that and poultices and injury kits. Also, Wynne only gets upset about you being a blood mage if you, ya know, tell her you're one. Don't be silly and tattle on yourself, and you'll be fine.

For Arcane Warrior, don't anticipate casting spells constantly while in warrior mode. The fatigue penalties between the armor you'll be equipping and the spell itself will be so hefty that you'll burn ridiculous amounts of mana. The best way I've seen to play arcane warrior is to burn all your normal mage spells, then use sustained abilities like Flaming Weapons while you're in warrior mode and avoid using any non-sustained spells.

As far as pure damage output goes, the primal trees and blood mage are the best. But don't overlook the telekinetic spells: mind blast-->force field-->telekinetic weapons-->crushing prison. Very handy set of spells, even if they're not direct damage.

I would consider going with

Nightmare (4) - It's great CC, especially if you don't have healer

You'll get slightly over 20 spells towards the end if you play your cards right and get the tomes.

( I think )
