I've been replaying KOTOR a lot lately, and I've been wondering if Bioware has ever given consideration to remaking KOTOR and maybe, if they have to buy the rights from Obsidian, KOTOR 2 with current generation graphics. With The Old Republic Online coming soon, I'm sure interest in the first two games are at the highest they've been since their release, this may be the perfect time for a reboot.

I was thinking a direct recreation of KOTOR 1, perhaps using the Mass Effect or Dragon Age engine, would make for a great game, but mostly I'd hope they could also remake KOTOR 2 so that you could transfer game saves from 1. Two always had it's flaws, large chunks of it were left incomplete when released, so major changes would have to be made anyways. I'd love to see my actions from 1 carry over. So many times I'd be part way through a somewhat tedious mission and I'd think, "Besides XP and Ligh/Dark-side points, what reason do I have to finish this side quest? It doesn't effect the rest of the game." If I knew my actions could affect the next game I'd have extra motivation to complete them all.

Maybe there could even be some bonus you could unlock in The Old Republic Online once you finish the games. :o

That would be amazingly sweet...but I don't think it would really ever happen. The time they'd have to invest in it, taking away the little time they have to spend with their new games, and probably the relatively smallish amount of money they'd get back wouldn't be enough to warrant it.
I'd love to see it reworked into the smooth dialogue machine that Mass Effect is and KotOR 2 filled in with all the content that Obsidian had to drop because of a too-soon release date though.

Aaaahhhh...it's sweet to dream.

I don't care about the graphics, but I'd like to see them offer a finished version of KOTOR2

Yah. The mods for the game are out there but can't measure up to all the quests/dialogue/planets that were left out because of time constraints. Good thing KotOR 1 is there to make it all better!

It occurs to me; If TORO turns out to be a hit, maybe Bioware could use its game engine to remake the original KOTOR games. They could sell it as an Expansion Pack/Stand Alone game that just purchasing earns you extra content in-game, and if you finish the games you unlock special Quests related to their stories.

I believe LucasArts own the rights to the KotOR games, not Obsidian or BioWare.

I think it'd be nice to get a HD patch (or even HD "remake") for KotOR/KotOR 2 as long as it didn't affect the game balance nor how the game works (Although making your own PC would be <3). If they could somehow integrate the Restoration project for #2, as well, I think it'd do rather well.

I'd really whould like to see Kotor remakes and after The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3 out they got alot of emty hands so, why not bring back to backstory for The Old Republic with current grapichs, same main cast, deeper roleplaying...

I would absolutely love to see an HD Kotor remake. With the 10th Anniversary Halo coming out and all the N64 games being done in 3D for the 3DS, remakes are all the rage nowadays. Once Bioware finishes ME3 and SWTOR, I think it would be the perfect time to remake Kotor, maybe by 2013 for the 10th anniversary.

I'm not sure they would be able to do Kotor 2, since they didn't make the original version and they'd have to put more work into actually finishing the game, but a remake of the first Kotor with current graphics and a voiced player character would be awesome. It would be totally doable too, since a lot of the Kotor team is still at Bioware working on the Mass Effect games (according to Casey Hudson). I think the fans would love it, new gamers would be introduced to a classic, and it could even appease the crowd that's still wants Kotor 3 instead of TOR, because at least they'd have a modern-looking single-player Kotor game, even if it's a story they've played before.

Please Bioware, make it happen!

:)
