Please help me, I just got this game and I would really like to play, it looks amazing.

The error I keep getting is: Error initializing PhysX. Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/physx for updated drivers.

I've been to their site, but I think you can only download the drivers if your running nvidia graphics cards(I'm running ATI).

System Specs:
AMD Athlon 2.2 Ghz Dual Core
ATI Radeon x1300/x1550 graphics (w/ latest drivers)
1 GB RAM

Some Backround for the issue:
I just installed the game today(20 gigs of space is a lot to clear up :) ), and then the first time I clicked play I got an error about a physx .dll file(I may be able to find it again, but only if it is really important, I would have to reinstall again, ~ 45 mins). So I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. I got the same .dll file issue, and did some searching on the net, after about 30 mins I gave up, so then I decided to look on the disc and run the PhysX installer that is on the disc. This uninstalled the driver installed by DA:O(I tried to run the game after this, and, understanably, it wouldn't work), but when I tried to install it again, I got an error 1316(with the PhysX installer itself). I did another hour worth of searching on this, and found out that I had to uninstall some outdated driver hidden on my HD. I did that, and sure enough the PhysX installer on the disc worked fine. I tried to run DA:O again, and I am now getting the error described at the top.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I will continue to try and find out a solution at my end(I'm gonna uninstall and reinstall again, just in case). Thanks in advance for any help you might give.

EDIT: sorry if this has already been posted here, but the sites search isn't working for me, and I can't look through 103 pages right now.

Try downloading the latest PhysX drivers

http://www.nvidia.co..._9.09.0814.html ( not just for nvidia cards btw )

PhysX also runs using CPU processing.

@dateranoth

ok, I'll try that, but if that doesn't work I think I'll try uninstalling everything related to PhysX then reinstalling DA:O

@tcconnor

I'm not really sure if it does, but it requires that you have it in any case. Kind of over-kill for an RPG if you ask me.

It does access the libraries, yes.

well, apparently the installer that dateranoth sent me worked! (I guess the one on the disc was somehow wrong?!)

A big thanks to you, dateranoth. I can't wait to start playing :) .

Well, I finally got the game only to spend hours trying to fix this Physx problem. I have tried manually installing and downloading directly from Nvidia's site. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing seems to work. No matter what I do I still receive the "error initializing..." message. Any other suggestions? I would really like to play the game. I am running WinVista 32, use GeForce 8800 GTX, and have plenty of space, etc.

you may have to manually disable the physX on your GPU (do it through the control panel, there should be a physX icon somewhere) and force it run from the CPU

I cannot imagine that the hardware you have is going to be satisfactory, in spite of the official System Requirements (which I anticipate to have been wrong again).  An X1300 was a business graphics card intended for charts, graphs, presentations, and spreadsheets.  It was last produced almost five years ago, and today's HD 4350 is practically in the medium class that the X1300 came from (X1600 / 1650).

The X1550 is a detuned X1300 Pro with another name, not quite as slow as the X1300 Vanilla.  Compared even to the old X1650, it's seriosly deficient in core speed, RAM speed, shader operators, and memory bandwidth.    When Bioware matched the Geforce 7600 GT against the X1550, it was like comparing a beagle with a Greyhound.  Plain silly.

You've had time now to get pretty far.  How is that slug you have there doing?  (Two-way slug, with too little RAM, as well as the so sadly defecient video device.)

Try this one. http://www.nvidia.co...09.04_whql.html Then after that is installed, update it with this one. http://www.nvidia.co..._9.09.0814.html

Then if that doesnt work use this. http://www.dll-files...PhysXLoader.dll

That is what worked for me.

I tried manually disabling physx as JironGhrad suggested and also tried the dll-file link from MD1220, but neither worked. I am still getting the same error message. I don't know what else to try and can't understand why these fixes have worked for others.

Can we get the rest of your system specs? RAM? CPU? Free space on the HDD? Sound card? DXDiag file? GPU RAM?

You should uh... seriously consider freeing some hard drive space. Microsoft's official statement is that things may not run properly under windows on a drive that exceeds 50% capacity.

But I don't think that is going to solve the physx issue.

Okay, I finally got the game to run. Found the solution on EA's tech support site. If anyone is still having issues with the physx error, try this:

1. Right-click the game's desktop shortcut icon and choose Properties.

2. In the Properties Panel, click the Compatibility tab.

3. In the Privilege level section place a check in the Run this Program as an Administrator checkbox.

4. Click Apply to save your changes.

Be sure the icon on your desktop is the DAOriginsLauncher.

I was not choosing "Run as Administrator" from the correct icon.

My game was running fine for several days. Got my characters up to level 7-8. Today, out of the blue, I got the physex error message and the game won't start. I'm using a gforce 8800 gt and Windows XP 32. I can't do the "run as administrator" thing because that option is not available on XP. I have applied the latest patch. I have the latest Nvidia drivers, which include the physex drivers. Any ideas?

Got it. Did it. It worked. I just don't understand why the game worked for so long without this error appearing. Must have somehow corrupted the physX drivers, but I can't see how it happened.

Had the same problem as you did jwragdoll. Almost gave up but the run as administrator trick did it for me. I had to click on "my computer" and then click on the game to find the right icon b4 I could configure the thing. Runs fine now . Thanks to everybody for the help. BTW haven't turned off the physx either but I did update the drivers as suggested here.I have a Geforce 9600. Guess it's just a "tweak it till it works thing"
