This is less an update and more of a trumpet blowing post. The mod is coming along well, I have around 60 - 70 % of the main story ready for playtesting, Once the main plot is complete I will start layering in the subplots and NPC's to round the whole thing up.

Mostly though I wanted to share the work I have done on the last two main outdoor areas. For both I have used Nicethugberts eroded hills and valleys; I think these prefabs are superb if you are looking for this landscape. I have taken two areas from his set 7, it takes 20 - 30 mins to set your base texture, tidy up the walkmesh and smooth out the steps and you are most of the way towards an interesting and playable area. The snow scene/high pass area I show all of in the pics took just three evenings - a similar area for the caravan club took weeks (of course I had help with getting the snow right, thanks guys). [edit - oops uploaded the wrong one, the overview area is still work in progress, it's taking longer as it is mostly forested, still needs some smoothing as well.]

The last thumbnail is my first draft of one of the module set pieces, The Copper Temple. I'm going to hak in one of the RWS tilesets for that interior, don't know which yet, just enjoying browsing the options at the moment.

Looking good! Trumpet posts are good. Feel proud, tall--strut that texture work around(and even thank NTB, if you dare). Also, that's a good amount of story progression! I'm impressed, anyways.

I can't help but think, in the final picture, that maybe "let it snow" isn't what the adventurer wants(judging by her expression). :P

I think you're right, what she wants is a toilet and that's no place to be dropping your chainmail trousers Posted Image.

Brings to mind some advice my dad gave me about yellow snow.

Looking forward to seeing this one come out. Then I'll play all three, one right after the other.

You really have a knack for using grass. You seem to get just the right amount. These areas look very nice. I like the lines and the way you use a few textures to generate an aesthetically pleasing area that is not overwhelming. Simple elegance. I like it.

The exterior areas look really good. I like the mountains a lot, of course. And that snow falling screenshot reminds me of Icewind Dale.

Harumph!

Thanks guys, I like doing the outdoors a lot more than the indoors. I would rather put down rocks and trees than cups on tables any day.

The snow area come out well thanks to the tips I got from the forum. I'd like to say it looks cool but cold would be better. With Nicethugbert's mountains it was not so hard to do either.

NEAT! Looking forward to this. The close ups look great, detailed but not cluttered. It has breathing room but not bland.

Hey, PJ, I'm giving a bump to this update thread to let you know I'm still in those blasted caves in the Caravan Club. Haven't had much time to play over the last few weeks, but I would hope to be up to speed by the time The Last Days of the Raven is released!

Looking forward to the continuation of this series. And for anyone who has yet to start Sheep and Stone, this adventures comes highly recommended by Dwarves who like poking around mines and spending time in various taverns...

Harumph!

Thanks Dorateen,

The caves aren't that big Posted Image.

You have a month or two till Last days of the Raven so take your time. I am interested to hear what you found in the caves when you get out.

No caves in mod III sorry but lots of mountains. Oh, and don't forget to comb your beard, there might be a little bit of Dwarven love to be had ....

Cheers for the bump,

PJ

No, but they're dark.

I don't know how you humans get around without infravision.

I love dark caves! Well, maybe love isn't the right word, but I like them. No Illithid, though. Falling head first towards them is problematic.

Ooops, struggled to do what I wanted to there, which is embed some pictures. I got it now though.

I managed to play the whole of my mod from start to finish over the last two days so that is the main plot complete. I now have to fill it out with dialogue and NPC's as well as fit in the two principle side quests. A long way to go but a lot is complete. It currently stands at 4 hours of game play so the final version is going to be 5 hours+.
I am going to post a few more screens if I can just work out how to imbed them again.Posted Image

Cheers,
PJ

The Copper Temple (viewed from a safe distance).

Tomb robbing - good old fashioned adventuring.

My version of moorland.

As I said in the first post the mod is coming along well. I am on target for March 2011; might be sooner but theres a lot to do and I hope to have someone play test it before release.

Cheers,

PJ

Too much is coming out in March. :/

Anyways, congratulations! I like the sparse area design--refreshingly simple.

Thanks CW I'm a bit worried about clashing but hey it's not finished yet. plenty of time for scope creep and indolence between now and then :)

I'm a big fan of sparse but it can be quite hard to do. That area is small (for a "random" encounter) but took much longer than other bigger areas.

My interiors are sparse because I get sooooooo boooooored with arranging furniture Posted Image

Whoa! Those interiors are great. Looks like you used some custom content. I don't recognize some of that from the standard toolset.

Not in these no, In the tomb the back wall is one of the altars and the floor is a table. I like to use placables in this way.

I very much liked the way you used the cave door in the basement in your mod, very neat. I did start a thread on customising placeables a while back but no one seemed to want to play Posted Image.

I have just seen in the picture something I noted in your mod last night. Light sources generate a reflection even though they do not appear in game. never noticed that before.

PJ

Edit - not entirely true that no one wanted to play; Kamalpoe and RJShae had some good ideas and DNO promised us a picture of a hot tub he had done.

What about the picture above the copper temple. How did you make that area?

I am still fixing my computer, there PJ, so I have to hold that thought as it were.  Yeah, I want to add a LOT more to the using placeables as other than they appear normally, though I have to get my desktop up and running again before I can really add to that.

Meanwhile, astounding work and I love how the table as a floor looks, that polished surface look just blew me away when I first saw it.

Looking forward to that DNO especially the hot tub :) Sometimes thing get a little stale. Seeing other peoples ideas gets the old creating juices flowing again.

The Copper Temple outer is made from the rural temple model but I wanted it to look like ver de gris so I clad it in green for the copper plates. It's not quite what I wanted but I am happy enough. I may go in and do a little re-tinting but its a pain so maybe not Posted Image

The green is one of the tintable books. There is one which is a single tintable upright book that takes greens and blues well. There is a set of books where the end one takes brown and yellow hues very well. Both are great for walls and upright cladding. there are a few books that are good for floors as well.

The indoor screen shot I was very pleased with. In the sunken ruins tile set is a tile with a window for which the toolset kindly provides a glowing window. One single wall tile option has the window high up and one low down. Put those two back to back without the window glass and, provided the two rooms have been explored, you can look through the window in the tile wall into the other room. In the screenie you are looking down into the lower room. I have removed the door from the lower room so you can always see into it regardless of whether you have been in there or not.

I'm sure I am not the first to use this but I was very happy to discover it. I love playing with height and having areas where you look down or up onto areas you cannot directly access.

Cheers,

PJ

I've heard of a house of cards, but a temple of books? That's a stretch...
