Reason for Ashley's pink armour.

Has there been any official word on this, was she the designated medic, or was she only the transport driver. (like in certain today's armies, they get to be like the boys train like the boys, but technically not allowed to fight alongside the boys.)
Or is she wearing Pink just to really hit home that she's a girl, which i feel is a dissapointing reason, i mean the armour is form fitting!!! You'd have to be blind or alien not to see she's female.

However, considering she's a well-rounded character that just so happens to also be female and wear pink, I'm fine with it.
Also, as to her role, she's apparently the senior NCO of her unit.

A shipment of experimental flamingo armor was produced and sent to Eden Prime via Admiral Hackett's orders because he wanted to laugh at a whole unit wearing something so stupid. Sadly the geth attacked prior to Admiral Hackett's planetary defense overview.

@fireEye, its not a gamebreaker, it just struck me as odd. And made me curious.
Heh. No worries. I kinda went "" at it in the beginning, myself. Then I got used to it.

Now presuming she is off insufficient rank to be allowed to paint her armour the way she wants too. That struck me as being rather odd.

Ash is a Gunnery Chief, which is a rough equivalent the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army/Marines.
Basically, she's a unit leader.
As for why her Armor's pink.... I honestly have no idea.

Shep used to wear white & pink. Then he went all mainstream with black & red.

From what Ashley said it sounds like she was part of something along the lines of a colonial defense force or reserve unit , compared to Shepard who is/was an active marine. You would figure they would use army ranks at least. Does everybody use the naval ranking scheme?

Apparently.
It seems like a universally accepted human military ranking system would make things more complicated. I honestly can't imagine any substantial benifets coming from the concept.

I actually like the sound of Lt. Colonel Shepard though.

A common "trope" in sci-fi is for space-based military forces to be a navy rather than, say, the army. It's the Alliance Navy, I believe, and that's why they use the same ranking scheme as allied navy forces.ReconTeam wrote...

I would expect that a ground-based attack force (Whom we don't seem to meet in Mass Effect) would be more akin to our Army.

But Ashley's obviously in a garrison and a Marine both, so... *shrug?*
Maybe there are simply small Navy/Marines support posts out in the colony garrisons as well.

That's not an accurate rank comparison.
You can't use the words "Chief" or "Gunnery" to make the comparison, since the militaries aren't a 1:1 translation. Even if you did use those key words, a Gunnery Sgt in the US Marines or a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy is equivalent to a Sgt First class in the US army, one grade up.
Either way, since it's not a 1:1 translation, that doesn't apply. From info I can find, there are 6 enlisted ranks in the Alliance Navy, and she's the 5th of 6, putting her rather high. http://masseffect.wi...ystems_Alliance
Given that she's 5/6 of the way up the ladder, that would put her closer to a Master Sgt in the US Army or Marines and a Senior CPO in the US Navy, making her a senior company-level NCO and probably one of the most senior NCO's you'd find in the field.
With that kind of seniority, it's conceivable she could personalize her armor...but pink? C'mon. She's kinda girly (as evidenced by her emails), but not THAT girly.

Nice find!
I didn't bother looking for an Alliance ranking system (and I never read that specific codex entry), so I just made a crude estimate based on the knowledged I had.

Perhaps in-game it's also so that she can be seen easily by her own troops, who would look to her for leadership?
