I just saw one of the fan-filmed videos.

I mean the way Fem-Hawke just keeps jumping, and her just swinging her weapon hitting 5 enemies at once. Then jumping and stomping make a shockwave knocking back enemies It Just doesnt feel strategic. When ever she swung her sword she just zoomed past enemies with something like assasin's rush from fable. I realize that this part of the story is supposed to be exaggerated by Varric, But i doubt they would add game play like that just for a section of the game.
I mean it's fine,:innocent:i like games with mechanics similar to enslaved, and ninja gaiden i just you, know expected a more strategic approach.
What do you think about it? I'll post the video if allowed

Pretty sure that would just get the thread locked.

From what I've heard, things do indeed get a lot slower after this. Maybe you'll get back up to that speed eventually, but that'll probably be at the point where the enemies require it. The jumping is probably all about closing distances as opposed to the "shuffling" from DAO that a lot of people didn't like.goldminer430 wrote...

When you think about, we still haven't seen any gameplay footage from the normal combat in the game, just Varric's exaggerated segment rehashed over and over.

First of all, two-handed swords now to AOE damage, hence why they're hitting like five guys at once.goldminer430 wrote...
A video posted by DragonAgeWiki. Now this is'nt going one of those "hate threads" Because this is just about one subject. I liked the last game, it graphic, and combat. But the new combat in the video has a lot of a hack and slash vibe to it.

But really in the end, it's all just animations for the same kind of skills you had in Origins. Think of the jumpy shockwave the same way you would use the Champion Warcry at Level 4. The jumping overhead slash is Mighty Blow - now you unload it from overhead instead of just a windup swing like in Origins.
I've said it a million times before and I'll say it again here, the combat isn't very different from Origins at all. Now it's just about twice as fast and has more exaggerated animations for special skills. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same stuff you got in the original - auto-attacks, heavily skill based combat, etc. etc.

The jump thing is an area-of-effect knockback+stun move if i'm not mistaken.goldminer430 wrote...

That said, when you get to see it roughly every 10 secs any "awesome" factor it might have with proper camera angle and the slow-mo effects like in the cinematic trailer etc... gets old quick

Yeah I saw two gameplay videos (one on giantbomb and the other on gametrailers) and I agree that it looks hack n slash like. In fact I even posted a question a while back saying the same think. Be prepared for some negative responses.(people like to cuss you out for saying Da2 looks like a hack n slash) I agree completely with you....despite what Bioware keeps saying it is hard for me to believe what they say after I am able to see some of the gameplay with my own eyes. BUT even if the combat is hack n slash I am sure that the story will be fenomenal. After all it is Bioware. They have a history for making games that are really good.
"Cuss you out"? I don't see any of that happening. Unless you consider disagreement a form of verbal abuse, in which case you're very sensitive.

QFT. Not that they're irrelevant, but I think people are having a problem looking past the animations. They're still just activated moves that cost mana or stamina and have cooldown times that you get at the level up screen, although you can now upgrade said abilities. I'm not sure how much combat slows down, unless you are referring to the difficulty. They've stated several times that combat is faster. It's the difficulty and gore that are adjusted in the exaggerated portion (as far as I know).

I don't see anyone in the future posting negative comments. If they read the posts, they will probably see this is not a hate thread. No one is yelling things like "omg teh fight is terrible, i hete you Bioware" Were just cool like that.
I just found the change in the fighting style of the game to be a bit drastic. Every thing looks so button-mashy now like, i don't have to use my special moves since, the attacks cover wide spaces, and when ever i click attack i jump in the air slashing through someone.
I trust Bioware though and i know that this game will be good. Because of all the games they've made, I've never found a bad one.

The jump in the air and such are your "special moves". The basic attack is just a slash with the sword.goldminer430 wrote...

edit: if the attacks can be indeed triggered anywhere then it would be because 2hand fighting style attacks are aoe cone attacks. So they can be triggered without having pre-selected target exactly like in DAO, where you could trigger your aoe skills anywhere.

Just like I fail to see how magically teleporting across the screen makes combat any better either, aside from it looking flat out silly.

Please go ahead and define "strategic approach" for us (also enslaved is FAIL) i'm sure everyone would love to know what that even means, should they simply use a jrpg system of active time battles? should they just toss the whole mechanics out and cut & paste in the star craft 2 system? or do you simply have no idea wtf you're complaining about like every other nublet here?
Enlighten us
