Can I still buy what was finished of the project before you shut it down? :(

Sure! We'll do a fire sale on witty one liners, and pathos is all piled up in the back, there, beside the big-ass creatures. Mind your shins, the mabari bite.

I trust it will be sold world-wide? I'd be interested, you know =]

Just like I fail to see how magically teleporting across the screen makes combat any better either, aside from it looking flat out silly.

Oh we know that won't happen you guys have to much invested already lol. Myself I'm holding a wait and see attitude, and I just hope the sacrifice of individual character creation, and full import of our DAO characters and so on are worth the gamble, and work out for you guys at Bioware. I was not thrilled to learn that I would not be able to fully import my characters from DAO. But in the end I'm willing to give you guys the benifit of the doubt and settle for my choices and perhaps some boneses hint, hint for all my achievments in DAO to give me something nice for my new toon Hawke.;)

Mike Laidlaw obviously can't comment on my brilliant Age of Conan combat-style suggestion because he's clearly saving that up for the Dragon Age MMO.

...I wish. ;)

In the MMO genre any feature not part of an outrageously popular game is clearly a failure.

Wait, this rant is totally off topic.

I'm picturing the final scene in Citizen Kane with all these features and models being tossed into the fire.

That was one thing AoC had in its favour, really fun combat. The storytelling and the bugs weren't quite as fun, however, neither were the thirteen year old boys who ran around top-less on female characters. Sorry, so off-topic, but Mike Laidlaw's posts have given me a few good chuckles.

I enjoyed DA and I am sure I will enjoy DA2 so just hold off on that fire sale, OK? ;-)
I was initially quite resistant to the new combat in ME2 but after a the first play through I got used to it and it is way better than in 1 (still prefer the way the game is set out in 1, I liked the lifts and I loved actually walking off the Normandy........... :/ *shakes fist at new mission style layout*) Anyway, I digress, if the combat has been tweaked the way it was in ME then I expect we will mostly love it, just don't take away the skill micro management and levelling up, I love that and people who don't like it can always use the auto level system that BioWare always put in.....
Anyway, that's my opinion, as you were *saunters off casually*

Easy there Ser Laidlaw. Lookit, ya'll (BW) have shown that you listen. And I haven't read anywhere here yet that anyone said they weren't going to buy it. Just some more "constructive" communnication. After the 'Big Show' test runs ya'll did it came out that it was to fast, so you slowed it down a bit. Ya'll showed you listened to your audience. Your audience took heart in that. Still, a vast majority have not gotten a chance to play any of it. So they're a little nervous in how it's gonna feel. Besides, you know it's like taking the results of a survey. You kick out the highs and lows and take the middle. If the middle still holds an overall majority, ya did good. Right? Now relax and come on over here and let me talk to ya about this.... J/K man. BW's still cool!!

As a general rule, I'm finding that people who only see the combat tend to get worried, while people who have played it find it refreshing and fun. Clearly not universally the case, but from my standpoint, that's just fine: it needs to play well. The visuals are just a talking point after that one's handled.

Sounds like you guys should release your con demo on Xbox LIVE and PSN.:innocent:

Every time you talk about DA2 your way of describing it always comes back to it being 'fun' which obviously is good but the frequency you use it and the way you talk about it makes me think that you've gone down a more lighthearted and casual approach than DA:O.

On the combat I don't understand why some people think the spectrum of gameplay is either 'shuffling' or 'lightning dashes'. Is it not possible to work on the DA:O gameplay so to eliminate the shuffling without overhauling it?

already played them ages ago, same with Poirot and other similar adventure games from ancient ones up to more newer ones like Still Life

but there are no RPG games yet, and that is why this would have a good chance to be a real success

I agree completely with you....despite what Bioware keeps saying it is hard for me to believe what they say after I am able to see some of the gameplay with my own eyes.

Tell me something then, was it hard for you to believe that Origins would be anything special after they released trailers, such as, the Sacred Ashes trailer and those with the Manson music, This is the new s***? :)

Aww c'mon, a decent sized mabari should at least reach the knees. Unless Fereldans are incredibly short to go along with their Mafioso-esque politics

funny thing is, the people who actually played it stated that it felt like origins regardless of how it looked.

As I've said before, if you take DA2 and slow it down to half speed and add a bit more shuffling, it's essentially the same product as Origins.

The biggest beef people seem to have is the animations. People don't seem to care for the additional jumping and dashing and more exaggerated special moves - something I can understand. Origins was very rooted in a realistic look even for many of its special moves. If you wanted to use Mighty Blow, you just wound up and made a big swing. If you wanted to do Critical Strike, you just brought your sword from over your head.

Now those moves are (from my guess) essentially a lot of the same type of skills except that the animations are changed. Now if you want to use Mighty Blow, Hawke is going to leap off the ground and slam his/her sword from overhead.

The "hack and slash" title is a total misnomer around here. People who go out there claiming that DA2 is becoming hack and slash are fundamentally wrong. The mechanics of combat appear to not have changed very far from the core in Origins. Now if they want to say that the animations looks like they're becoming more hack-and-slashy, there is a bit of water to that complaint.

Personally, I don't mind the animations getting a bit more fantastical. This is an RPG set in a medieval fantasy setting after all. For me the animations and special moves getting a bit more "anime" (another term people have thrown out around here) is fine by me. For some people that's a big issue and that's an stylistic argument on the same page as "I think the swords are too big." Some people get honked off by that and others could care less.

I didn't think Origins animations were all that realistic personally, but in a differen...
