Look. These "its a shaky cam guys, and its just an exaggerated part of the beginning of the game in the demo" means more than saying what DA2 is outright. From your statements you can infer that in the full game, this is what it actually plays like, animations aside. You admit, that it tones down a bit. Since this is a press demo?, that you picked the part of the game that is what the devs think that the press? would find "the most fun". In other words, the conclusion I'm coming to is you're essentially fooling everyone into thinking it's a totally different game.

Maybe now you get why everyone is so concerned?

What are you talking about?  That the demo of a game that's still 5-6 months away doesn't perfectly reflect the game?  The seas must be made of tears on your homeworld.

To add: (and this is anecdotal) most of the people I've talked to would have had no complaints if your character did not have to be stationary for a few seconds in order to attack.

To clarify this:

If you could slash your sword while still moving, this would completely solve the "shuffling" complaint that people had where you're shuffling to get into a stationary place before slamming your shield or whathaveyou.

Unless the game plays more like Dragon Age Origins on the PC, I shant be buying it, and neither will most of the fans who liked the combat of DAO.

Give us KOTOR3 jerks.

Wrong.

And stop living in the past.

Ironically, most of the people that i've talked to (again, anecdote) that liked DA:O was because it was a throwback to games such as Baldur's Gate.

It's not half a year away, it's coming out in March. That's four months. The game should be ending its bugtest phase.

You can say that if you'd like, but I still think your wrong.  Very few people are going to look at the story, the setting, and the game itself... get all excited to buy it...  then read that it isn't an isometric throwback and move on to the next game.  Very few cases.  Most players want to play a fun game that tells them a story.  That's all they're after.

The story of DA:O was really generic boring fantasy tripe though, what sold me was the combat. The music was okay I guess, though ultimately forgettable.

Though towards the end game the "shuffling" was pretty frustrating because you couldn't move+attack at all, and positioning gets to be pretty tedious busywork.

That isn't to say you throw the baby out with the bathwater because you can't decide how to fix it and implement something different entirely.

October 13: 18 days + November: 30 days + December 31 days + January 31 days + February 28 days + March 8 days = 146 days. That's 4.8 months using 365/12 as the calculation for a "month." Closer to five months.

I watched one of the videos the other day and showed it to my husband and both our reactions were very similar... we were confused about the animation because it seemed very anime like. I mean, I understand that it is the part where your char is overpowered but still I don’t believe that the "animation" itself is going to change when you go back to playing normal Hawke (since it certainly would be a lot of extra work to make 2 different set of animations). The thing is, I could get past that if the story is really good, but for those of us who like a little more realistic fight it is certainly a downer to see you char go "crouching tiger hidden dragon" on you

Yes, it's closer to five months, though not 5 exactly. Still you generally give a month at least for the pressed copies to be distributed to retail stores, and keys to DD sites. So thats almost 4 months of actual work at most before the release date.

So other than that official gameplay video we're all waiting for, not too much should have changed between then and now.

I promise you that there is no way that the demo build is the current build they are working from. It was probably code-and-content locked at least a week before the first time they showed it and has been unchanged since that time. Trying to make every build you are working on demo-ready would mean nothing ever got finished. So when you are looking at the demo, you are looking at something that is probably 6-7 months away from release, rather than 4-5.

*sigh* There's the same pause & play tactics/micromanaging on the PC, just like the first one (note to self: maybe I should save this line and copy & paste so that I don't have to keep saying it). If you require zombie-like lurching and extremely slow combat animations just to make you feel like it's really, REALLY hardcore strategy, then that's your problem. I appreciate the improved animations/speed rather than having my characters shuffle around like they need joint-replacement surgery.

Too bad they still shuffle around half the time, then (whenever the blink moves are on cooldown i'd guess?) Wonder if it ends up pissing off both camps since both get to experience the aspects of gameplay that supposedly irk them...

I've heard it's not entirely gone, but as long as it's better than it was any improvement is welcome. However, even if they are still shuffling a lot, it doesn't bother me. Heck, maybe it'll make some people happy & they can zip it over the ridiculous argument that it's hack & slash just because some things look zippier. Yes, sorry to disappoint you that I won't be one of those people irked, regardless of the outcome.

Ugh...I agree that the combat in Dragon Origins wasn't perfect, but this is far off as well. Terrible.

I know I must be bored when I read through a thread arguing the semantics of the phrase "hack & slash" only to see people trying to belittle each other over it...

Anyone have any good games out there worth playing?

How about I hand out those nifty Pepperidge Farm cookies - the dark chocolate ones with chocolate chips? Much better than fan tears! Darn it, now I feel like getting some, but I have to reformat a manuscript (haha, the AR gave me the wrong one! *facepalm*)

Hmm.  So what sold you on the game was the tedious busywork.  Sums things up nicely. :lol::lol:

Hey, that move you described, it's like one of the Rogue's talent on Awakening. Did you had problem with that when you played Awakening?

Now, I need to watch that video.

Yeah, the shuffle is pretty much gone. Charging into combat is a default ability, you don't need to do anything special to close with a foe besides attack.
Have I not made my views on shuffling clear? ;)
