I've been brainstorming on crew members that would put a new twist on the grand finale, and maybe show us something we haven't seen before.  Here's a few ideas:
1) A female salarian: female salarians are exceedingly uncommon and typically confined to their homeworlds for breeding and governing.  Having one on your crew would be a chance to gain new insight into the salarian race, and it would be especially interesting to see the reactions of other salarian NPC's when traveling with her.  I'd imagine her likely equivalent to sentinel class, and maybe having a charisma-modifying ability.
2) Krogan scientist: Ideally a clanmate of Okeer.  Grunt's plot was really only interesting to me because of Okeer and his rather unique perspective.  Would be interesting to see Mordin handing off Maelon's research to him in ME3 if Mordin is still alive at that point.  Abilities would be a combination of tech and combat, but tech abilities should likely be more melee and short-range oriented than crowd-control.
3) Turian vanguard: this is likewise supposed to be a rarity among turians.  Quite frankly I'm sick of all the human biotics in Mass Effect; it makes no sense that there should be so many.  In ME2, all of your human crewmates with the exception of DLC were biotics.  It made sense for Jack, a bit less for Miranda, and not at all for Jacob.  It stops being believable as an obscure trait if the game is saturated with biotic humans.  A biotic turian, however, has potential.  I just see the turian mentality interacting with a trait that estranges him for the group in all sorts of interesting ways, maybe he even gets cocky.  It'd also be interesting to see interactions with Garrus.
4) Either a volus adept or elcor technician: using either neural implants and servomotors for the elcor (vocal implants would make dialogue a lot more interesting if the elcor still couldn't manage to avoid prefacing his comments) or a modified exosuit and biotics for the volus.   Either races' mentality would offer fresh insight to the game, and getting to see an elcor appropriately modified for combat would be a thing to behold.

Urz the Varren... Chews through armor and shields... Keeps annoying husks off my back while I "widow" more important ennemies...

A volus squadmate would be cool, especially if voiced by the guy that did Han Olar. Assuming ME3 follows the ME2 format and most of our squad is composed of new characters, a Volus could easily fill the role previously held by Mordin.

I would also like an Asari squadmate that is a different character type from Samara or Liara. Both characters overall are paragons. A renegade Asari that wasn't a complete psycho like Morinth would be a nice change. Maybe a Commando that went Merc. Make her a bit of a bad girl also like Jack, but without the bratty teenager persona.

I don't want anyone that I can't use in combat, so if a Volus is gonna be a member of the crew, it had better be a ramped up version of The Biotic God.... because if you choose the renegade portion of the story when you meet him, his biotics are pathetic.

No Elcor or Hanar.  What are they going to do?

I could see a Batarian onboard. It would create great storyline possibilities:  Shepard - paragon of tolerance, meets someone that even he is prejudiced towards, and either gives in to racism, or learns to overcome his own ignorance (and possible past.)

I would like to see another Spectre onboard.  More great storyline possibiliites:  Shepard- obviously the best, but there's another spectre that, while believing in the Reaper threat and wanting to stop them, also tries to compete with Shepard when out on missions.

A female salarian soldier with a bad attitude. But only if we discover that the females are the larger of the species.

Lets see, another Spectre - one that doesn't die as soon as you meet them- Another N7 commando maybe, a Batarian, prefrably all these characters need to be badass's.

I admit some of my ideas were pretty inane, and I got some serious lulz from the Biotic God, Blasto, and Urz. I still say the elcor could work with the right tech upgrade. I have to give massive props to whoever drew Dill.

Here's one: 34280 the Keeper. You always need him on the Normandy, but you're not really sure why. Hilarious conversation options with Joker and EDI ensue.

Batarian seems the most likely and the one with the most potential for an interesting plot. Probably would work best as a pure combat class. There should also be a loyalty mission with carryover from how you ended BDtS.

I maintain a turian vanguard would be pretty awesome; sort of a counterpart to Garrus, who is an infiltrator-analog with a sniper rifle; I barely used Jacob Taylor, which was the closest we got to a vanguard in ME2. Didn't hold a candle to Urdnot Wrex.

I also seriously think we need to be seeing both sexes of all relevant species. We got quarians in ME2, but we're still missing krogan (save for one under a sheet), salarians, elcor, volus, turian, batarian, and drell females.

None other than Shiala. She NEEDS to have a more major role in the series.

I'm pretty sure the universe would overdose on awesome and proceed to collapse and shatter if Wrex were to perform a biotic charge.
