Here's the situation:

I've got 6 people (well, more than 6 actually) that have expressed interest in doing a multiplayer game of Baldur's Gate 2, but I was on today with another person and we were trying to get a multiplayer session up and running between the two of us and it just wasn't working.  No matter what we tried (Hamachi, windowed mode, port forwarding, TCP/IP, ToB or SoA), it would always come back with 'Cannot connect to server' or whatever.

I'm running a direct ethernet cable to the outlet in the wall, not going through a router or anything.  Also on Windows XP.  The person I was trying to run it with was on Windows 7.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to getting a game up and running?

Hey, how did you get it working? I'm trying to play BG2 with a friend who has Windows 7, and I have Windows XP, and it won't work.

I am currently having the same problem:
Going via TCP/IP, it just says 'Cannot connect to the server'
We both have version 2.5.26498
I have DirectX 11, his is 9 (I am going to be the Host)
I have Windows 7, he W98
and we have identical BGII versions, mods included.
For any help many thanks in advance :)

I was unable to get connection/stable connection for a loooong time.

Here's a solution - GameRanger!

BUT:

1. It's not compatible with all BG versions.

2. There's a bug. If I recall correctly everybody have to leave the room after creating it and enter it again (do not exit BG, only multiplayer). Otherwise all players will be kicked out after few seconds. Perhaps it was already fixed.

Is there anything for BGtutu? I installed GameRanger and well... it doesn't quite work. I bought a 4-in-1 pack of BG 1 and 2 with expansions. BG 1 can't run unless I change my computer language settings to English (US) which causes a big mess for just playing. I guess we could play BG 2, but since I'm playing with a person who has never played BG before, I want her to experience the whole story of course.

Can't understand it at all, It played just fine on a LAN just less than a year ago on pretty much the same computer (upgraded the graphics card, that's all :/ )

Yeah, connection problems with BG multi are beyond human understanding. Before GR it was a roulette for me.
Funny, in my PL 4-in-1 pack I have GR compatibility difficulties with BG2, but not BG1. (luckily I have also different releases).

I have no idea how GameRanger works with TuTu, or Baldur's Gate Trilogy. I guess you will be a pioneer.

The BGII issues should be fixed as of about a week ago. (I'm the developer.)
