I tried to search the forums for this topic but this site confuses me way too much.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it happens when miranda and the illusive man are talking and so far nowhere else.
I can deal with it if it's the only place where it happens but I would just hate it to happen when something extremely important or intense is happening.

I don't know how to post those long crazy system specs like some others do so i'll just type in what I know.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+
3 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (Game runs perfectly with all settings at highest so this probably isn't the issue)
Windows XP Pro SP2
Also, in the device manager under "sound, video and game controllers" it seems like I have a lot of audio entries. I'm not sure if it would know if they are conflicting with each other but it doesn't look like anything is wrong. There are even four things in there with identical names (NVIDIA High Definition Audio). Why it is listed 4 times is beyond my understanding.
*Possible spoiler alert*
So far I have Jacob, Miranda, Zaeed & "Archangle" in my squad and there has not been a single problem with audio synchronicity. The game runs perfectly in every way other than that intro. I just really hope it doesn't pop up again when i'm supposed to be immersed in the story.

Hmmm yeah I didn't think of that. That is making sense already. This CPU is getting on in age.

I have a AMD AM2 64 X2 5400+ @ 2.8GHz (Replacing with an AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE This Friday XD) and its bottle-necking my HD4890OC, I'd say your running into the same thing with your setup. The 460s a pretty good mid range card and because of that your CPU might be bottle-necking it aswell, the 4200 is only at 2.2GHz with 1MB total cache which Really limits the overall system performance, my 4890 may have a 128GB second bandwidth but that means nothing if the rest of the system can't handle its speed. I'd suggest upgrading your CPU, the Phenom I got was pretty cheap at Newegg.com for $139.99 with free shipping

What kind of things do i need to know about my mobo when shopping for a CPU? A Phenom is something i'm interested in but I would hate to get a new CPU just to find out that my motherboard doesn't like it. It probably doesn't matter but I thought I should ask just in case.

I'm sure you are correct. It's just strange that the game runs so smoothly with all settings at their highest but has a audio delay during the intro. I don't have any other games that look and run this good. I think it is time for a new CPU anyways.

Do you know the model of your motherboard by chance ? cause it might only be an AM2 board which wont support Phenoms >.<. For example my motherboards an MSI 790XT-G45 which also supports even the new X6 Phenoms (just needs a Bios update) the model number/name will be on the board usually in big bold white lettering in between the PCI/PCI-E slots.

~Motherboard~
ASUS
Model: A8N-SLI Premium 1.02
Chipset: NVIDIA nForce4 A3
Southbridge: NVIDIA nForce4 MCP
LPCIO: ITE IT8712
~BIOS~
Brand: Phoenix Technologies, LTD
Version: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium ACPI BIOS Revision 1009
After looking over what you said and what I replied with I realized that the model was right there in what I was typing. Well, at least I think that is the model you were asking about. If I still need to look at the actual model on the board I guess i'll stop being lazy.

Oh man. I'm not sure what you just said and my setup right now isn't very friendly to the act of opening up my tower... and i'm feeling super lazy... AND I want to play. I'll give you what I can but I can't make anything out of all this mumbo jumbo.

Ok I looked up that model an found this www.xpcgear.com/asusa8nslip.html is that your board ? Cause if it is then you can't use Phenoms on it as that board also uses the older DDR ram and I don't know of any Phenom boards that use that type lolz if your able to I'd think about updating your motherboard/ram and cpu.
Edit: I almost forgot to ask this but how powerfull is your PSU your using atm ?

Well, yes I think that's the one. The entire computer is being replaced one part at a time so motherboard could easily be my next upgrade.

I would upgrade the mother board 1st as it'll also allow you the ability to upgrade your ram and cpu, now if you do upgrade your mother board 1st I'd go with one that uses DDR3 as its actually cheaper then DDR2 is atm (Marketing thing X_x) you can get 4GBs of DDR3 for about $70-$90 on Newegg right now or 8GBz in a quad channel kit for about $150 or less, more depending in its timings (Corsair XMS/Dominator) That PSU should handle your new system so long you don't use 2 video cards as I'm also on a 550Watt PSU.

I think I will go for a new mobo first but the problem with that is that I will need to buy the ram at the same time. It just means I'll need to wait longer.
Also, I don't plan on adding a 2nd video card. At least not anytime soon.
EIDT: I just noticed something that might shed some light on this audio lag issue. I have noticed that about every half hour to an hour of playing this game there seems to be a "hiccup" in the performance of my computer. The game will freeze for sometimes as long as three seconds. During this one to three second freeze I can hear my computer clicking away as if it is thinking really hard about something. I was lucky enough to have this happen halfway through a cutscene and once the brief freeze was over the audio was no longer in sync. The cutscene finished playing out and the audio was about two seconds behind just like in the intro. I loaded a previous save and watched the cutscene again but that time it was perfect. The strange thing is that no matter how many times I start a new game the audio in the intro is always off.
Other than what I just mentioned this game almost never has low framerates (maybe only a couple of times so far). The FPS are consistently great and the audio has only been off during the intro and during this one other isolated event (which happened to be caused by the rare "hiccup" my computer is experiencing.).
Perhaps there is a related issue here?

Man, I can't thank you enough for your help. I just hope it fixes this. I can't help but cringe at that audio lag and I just hope this fixes it.

That kinda sounds HDD related, how old is your current HDD ? cause if its starting to go bad your start to notice things like those hicups it could also be your CPU is having a hard time keeping up with the HDD an Video card at the same time, now to note in cutscenes lighting is usually more intense then out of it so your notice an FPS drop unless your hardware can handle it.
