Hawke's armor is rather ridiculous. It's just flashy, for those young minds that like to see pointy, spiked armor on warrior males, and near nudity on warrior females. Like they could stop swords and daggers with their bare skin...
First of all, it barely protects anything vital. He uses a two-handed sword, meaning both of his arms are at risk, but one is bare. 0 armor. Only part of one arm, parts of the legs and the base of the neck are protected.
On the few areas protected, the armor seems very uncomfortable... about two or three inches thick. Heavy and bulky.
And those spikes... (shiver) They seem dangerous indeed, but not to his enemies: To himself! He really would need to tiptoe around, and warn people not to slap his shoulders in a tavern. Those knee things specially, he might gut himself in a second!
Overall, I'd say it gives 4 armor at best, in DAO terms. Posted Image

Why, it looks like you are an expert in armors and character design.

Bioware should hire you, seriously.

You are joking, right?

Right?

Who cares if it's not practical? It looks cool.

I like the armor. To me it looks like a darker version of a cross between what Tidus and Tifa wore. But then I like a lot of Final Fantasy designs, which most people here don't seem to.

Didn't realize DA is a medieval simulation where armor must be historically accurate.=)

The armor does not look professional, this is true. However, it is better than what some warriors wore in the past, an example being the warriors who went to battle completely naked (except with some body paint on). If he was all armored up, it would be hard to be all acrobatic like he was. Lacking arm armor allows the arm to move freely and such. Certainly doesn't look like massive armor, but more like medium, less fatigue with just enough armor.

Gaider said they'd get to fixing the armor designs as soon as they're done removing Elves, Dwarves, magic, dragons and all other elements of fantasy from the game. Should see some results soon!

Sorry about that.

I meant that I think it looks cool.

Heh. There's always someone who wants to cherry-pick their "realism."

OP, the game you want is Mount & Blade.

Well, consider this. Real-world armour follows tried and true principles. First there was chainmail, then people started expanding it with bits of solid metal and eventually arrived and jointed gothic plate. From there, they reduced the coverage of that armor to only cover the important bits... like the head. More exposed, harder to defend and easier to mangle than most other vital part of the anatomy. Even in a fantastical world, development of armour would follow a similar evolution; one of necessity.

Yeah, I think it's ridiculous. Not 'female rogues standing around with uncovered chests while people shoot arrows at them because cleavage is more important than life' ridiculous, but ridiculous. It's part of the whole faster, edgier, blah, blah thing I guess. Or just in keeping with the overall ugly of the design style.

lol its just a game, I wouldn't take it too seriously, even though this is how.... most characters in games are dressed <_<. Kinda like gameish fashion, from what can I saw.

Ha! I like that.
Pointy is so in for this age.

I like how it's not just "bad guys" rocking the points either. For some reason pointy = evil :/

I don't know why, but the armor makes Hawke look like a medieval Snake Plissken (especially the leg guards), therefore it is awesome. All he needs is an eye-patch...

"For Maker's sake, don't do it, Garrett!"
"The name's Hawke."

Just as long as he doesn't have the hair cut

While the armor may not seem entirely practical, if you want realism realize that armor in real life cost quite a bit

Was it confirmed that this is not a special "exageration only" armour for Hawke? If you look at other screenshots, where Hawke is wearing a different set of armour, it is far more realistic and reasonable leather versus fur beefcake Hawke.

I think Hawke can be a bad guy...

Those pointy shoulder guards of his remind me of the 80's. And Jareth the Goblin King. WHAT THE EFF.

I think I read somewhere... he was a mage... so pthh that armor is already better than the robes right? Runs and hides....

That armor is what's determining whether I play a warrior or a Mage first time through, if it's warrior only then I'm a warrior, if mages can wear it and it's light armor and mages aren't confined to traditional robes this time round I'm a mage

I love the way you said 'Young minds'. I think that statement was proved wrong because many adults love what you just said. If you want a medieval simulation that is realistic as can be, I recommend mount and blade war-bands, it's a very good game, one of the best made so far.

Plus, you could make up for it by bringing in the Mage Hawke's who should be already magically protected, maybe Bethany buffs you up before a fight. Plus armour like that gives you mobility and speed, something much more vital in a battle if you know how to use it.
