If they do that, they would also have to implement the consequences. Like your healer 'forgetting' to heal you during a fight, or your mage 'missing' his/her target and hitting you instead, 'by accident'. :innocent:

They had such features in DA:O It was called bad AI. B)

I don't think Mr. Gaider is going to write the characters as so childish that they would randomly help Darkspawn or kill you over what possibly amounts to petty meaningless personality conflict. "Gee, I was intent on saving the world with Hawke, but I think I'll kill him and doom the world, because he isn't sensitive to my personal issues!"

That's pretty much exactly what Wynne does if you opt to defile the urn.

I wouldn't really call that petty. People get crazy when you take a big crap all over their religion.

Andraste wasn't about to descend from the heavens to save the world from the blight.

Wynne attempted to doom Fereldan for the sake of her petty beliefs. If that doesn't warrant a good slapping session I don't know what does.

Beliefs aren't petty.

Defiling the Urn is. What the Warden stands to gain from it is so trivial it's pathetic.

Compared to the salvation of a nation they certainly are.

Preserving the urn was of absolutely no use except for solidifying the position of the Chantry. An organization built on oppression and slavery. Kolgrim's knowledge was far more valuable.

No use? If the urn had been defiled before you came along, then you would have been SOL and the world may have been doomed. I'd love to see Hawke's victory in DA2 depend upon a pinch of ashes from the urn to save someone vital, and if you defiled them in your imported DAO file, then it's game over when you find them in their useless state.

You could defile the urn before taking the pinch. I don't think Eamon minds some dragon blood in his veins.

If anything it only made the lyrium infused ashes more potent. I mean, the original defilement is what gave them their healing powers. I guess I just expected the sagely Wynne to be a little bit wiser.

I agree, the part when Allistair went hysterical upon discovering that Loghain gets to live needed a renegade interrupt option.

View it this way: Imagine how the players would feel if Alistair forced you to spare Howe then recruit him as a Cousland. The playerbase would be out for his (Alistair's) blood. :P

If Alistair was in charge and he needed Howe to protect Lothering, then he'd have to slap some sense into the player.

Assuming there was some sense in it.

What would be cool is the option to slap somebody, and he blocks it and slaps you back. Frankly, I think the player needs a little putting down every once and a while. All this ego stroking in the games is starting to irritate me.

And the Warden really wasn't the ONLY possible savior of the world. Up till that point, no one, not even the Warden know a GW is needed. So you getting killed DOES NOT equal the end of the world.

Hey, maybe Bioware could just ditch the whole current combat system and turn all major confrontations into a slap fight between Hawke...bandits, ogres, dragons, kind of like the slap-fighting game Rose & Camellia.

If they don't get to slap you, you don't get to slap them. You're not their mother.

I refer you to the "Slap Morrigan" mod which gives her a chance to slap you back. Your move Mr. Gaider.

That assumes Gaider thinks he's playing a game with you. He's not. You're in the stands, he's down on the field.

Which was made by OP and David didn't like it then either. As I recall, she couldn't slap back originally but I may be wrong. Skelli, for some reason, loves to abuse Morrigan. I think I also recall Morrigan decapitation pictures.

The characters deserve more respect and I think what Gaider said sums it up, you're not their mother. Why would they even let you slap them to begin with? Remember these aren't helpless people that are accompanying you; they're experienced combatants.

You lead darkspawn with intimidation and brutality not highly skilled warriors and heroes.

It would be interesting to be slapped by an NPC or party member.

I think we're all getting off message here. What David is trying to tell us is, it's not okay to beat your children unless you are their mother. So mothers, please beat your children because it is your right to do so!

Yes...I am joking, don't send me any PMs.

Don;t take this too bad, but I feel like the nature of Bioware games is kind of a power trip, perhaps not a childish one though.  I mean, the whole premise of all the games is that you play as a character who gets to make tons of super-important decisions that influence the world, even when the choices should be someone else's to make.

Ha! True enough-- but as you point out,it's not a childish power trip, whereas wanting to slap around your party members because you don't like them (and I assume then demanding that "realistic consequences" be implemented as well, and if that leaves you without a sufficient party to win the game then it would be "add more party members, maybe ones that I don't want to slap this time") is exactly that. I've no interest in fulfilling that need any more than in fulfilling the need of people who want the option to kill everyone they wish. That's not our game.

My move?

I'd say you're welcome to the mods. Or fanfiction. Your choice. Have fun.

Yep.

in BG I left Imoen dead (thanks for the potions) I waved as i passed Monteron and the otherguy. I told Jaheria and Khalid that i will travel alone. I killed the bard and his mistress. I ran off from Minsc and passed by Edwin. I then solod the whole dame game on hardcore.

Not a single f-damn was given.

What would be wrong with slapping such players with a big, fat "GAME OVER" ?  I mean, provided that winning the game would then be impossible and not just really difficult.

I always wondered that.  If I do something like, in Mass Effect 1, take too long to go through the Conduit - guess what, that means the game ends.  Time to reload.  I wouldn't hate more stuff like that, even if I'm not even the type to kill off more than half my squad.

Hehe just imagine DAO, you either kill off members or are such a jerk everyone just up and leaves.  As the last memeber dies/leaves you get a big 'Game Over' on the screen over top a scene of your Warden sitting all alone by the fire at the camp.  Not even dog wanting to come over and console you.  Epic. :P
