I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with the lead up to the much maligned EA game, Command & Conquer 4, but I have to say that the similarities between C&C 4's pre-release build up, and DA2's are uncanny. Both games came out/are coming out much more quickly than usual after their predecessors, both games incorporated new art styles that were poorly received (Except, C&C 4's was received much worse than DA2's), both games changed some of the core gameplay (though once again, C&C 4 did this to a much larger extent than DA2 is doing it),  and both games had pseudo collector's editions in the form of pre-order bonuses in lieu of actual collector's editions. EA's reasoning for not releasing a C&C 4 collector's edition was that they had low expectations of its sales, do they expect the same with DA2?

Perhaps I'm just crazy, but I'm really hoping for the best with this franchise. Some of these similarities have been in the back of my mind for a while now, making me worry that DA2 will be a rushed flop like C&C 4.

Awesome.I will be pre-ordering this as soon as we get word on whether or not we can carry over an Origins save across different platforms.

Until then, I haven't decided which version I want.

I am a little disappointed by the fact, that this seems to be the CE because I love huge CE's. Price doesn't matter. On the other hand, its really cool that you get those things for free. However, I'll wait to pre-order until January. Maybe they are motivated by the people around here who want a bigger CE and they decide to do one.
If not, I have to comfort myself with the budding Fable III CE.

They can probably cook up a CE for you, if your a willing to pay 100.000 USD or something. =]

The only reason I'm preordering now is because this is their CE. If they decide to release a different CE copy anyway, I will be pissed.

I trust that they won't, though.

Thanks for updating us Chris! I think it's great that Bioware has decided to essentially give us this extra content for free. I'm not sure I understand why people are saying it should already be included in the game when it pretty much is. Well, if you pre-order it :P

I'm quite excited to see who this mystery character is and an included soundtrack is always a plus for me. I'm a big fan of Zur's music and I'm sure he won't disappoint this time around, especially if the game trailer music is any indication.

Party members should be part of the game, not cut as DLC or pre order bonusus's. It's cheap, lame and stupid. Not evryone has the internet, might live in an area that does not get this edition and can't buy the game used. They just missed out on content that should be part of the game. That's the problem.

They also don't have to give us bonuses at all. Not to mention free bonuses. It's extra content for a reason and is not integral to the story. Of course there will be people that can't access this extra content and while that's very unfortunate, I'm sure Bioware will try to make it available to as many people as possible.

this is it? no CE, just this? a few in-game items, something like Stone Prisoner again, and a downloadable soundtrack?
another thing like Stone Prisoner could be nice, but why does it have to be preorder only? stone prisoner wasn't.
the thing i was really excited about was the soundtrack, but then i read it was downloadable only. booo.

so, if there's no CE and this is all you get for preordering, i guess there is no big reason to buy it at release. Wow, never thought i'd say this about a bioware game. i mean, i might consider for the soundtrack and well it still is a bioware game despite all the changes i really dislike, but mhm.

Preordered at Gamestop! Hopefully they'll do a midnight release thing. And please don't complain already, it's effectively free added content for those of us who are supporting the developer of a fantastic series of games.

Will be pre-ordering as soon as it hits Steam.

This is how CE should be - 'in-game' items, not other crap to litter you room with.

Well, when they advertised for the Collector's Edition of Origins they showed Shale as one of the things that came with it. I'm suspecting this is the same thing. You're getting the character no matter what if you buy new.

But if I recall, they had already announced that Shale was included in all new copies of the regular version of Origins at that stage. I really don't care if they put weapons or loot in as bonuses, but once they start packaging in story related stuff like characters, it just reminds me of Kasumi. She was clearly supposed to be the 12th member in the "dirty dozen" of ME2, and yet they made you pay for it, when it very likely was originally designed to be in the base game.

I'd just like to know if this character will be available with every new "regular edition" copy like Shale or if it will be like Kasumi where you have to pay for it seperately as DLC if you preorder or buy the game after January 11th? Or is this character exclusive to the Signature Edition?

:crying: b-b-but, physical stuff is awesome! an official steelbook or even better, a fancy big box! lots of nice goodies like statuettes, big art books, soundtrack cd, small tie-in book, a t-shirt, a cloth map, a bonus disc with an in-depth making of and a short film, aaah all those nice things to look at when you aren't sitting at the computer or tv playing the game!

heck, the digital deluxe edition of dragon age already was the all-digital collectors edition alternative to the physical collectors edition. it's not like people didn't already have a choice in how they like their CE

...Not really. Collector's Edition. Something like "Signature Edition" would imply extra stuff, but a Collector's Edition would imply physical collector's items. The AC:B Jack-in-the-box, or DAO's cloth map, or Fable III cards. There's nothing that would imply a "collector" (ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL) in free DLC content.

Which is why I think a lot of us are disapointed.

DAO had a metal case,  case coat, cloth map, a bonus disc and  a bunch of DLC.

ME2 cmae out with a fantastic metal case, case coat, art booklet, Cerberus network card that has a bunch of DLC and a bonus disc.

DA2 "CE" comes with a boring plasic case, some in game items and a digital soundtrack.

They want as much pre-oders as early as possible. Which makes me wonder, if they fear for reviews and comments about the game shortly before and after release.

Exactly what I was thinking. Its smell like an attempt to cash in as much as possible before anybody gets to see the game. Im still going to wait for reviews.

I'm trying to work out why some people are complaining that we are getting what appears to be a true 'limited' edition collectors version of the game with $20 extra content bundled with it at no additional cost. Sure I'd of liked a cloth map, art book or another physical item but sometimes games just don't come with them: Much like Dragon Age Origins didn't for some parts of the world... I'm sure the character will be released later on as DLC if it isn't standard with all copies, the other stuff I hope stays exclusive at the least.

Can't wait.

If I have reservations, it's because I was looking forward to some special CE goodies. I am, however, good with this. So long as they don't decide later they're really actually going to release a CE version.

It would also be nice if the downloadable soundtrack is the whole thing, unlike with Origins CE where we only got a cut version. And EA selling the full recording on iTunes afterwards was a slap in the face.

This was what I was thinking.

We're getting the CE for no extra cost; why is everyone ****ing? Unless you're RATHER pay the extra $20 for what's being offered. I don't know about you guys, but I'll take this edition and be happy about it, thanks.

Pre-order, here I come! :)

I was already planning to anyway, but this, this is just great.
