Can someone tell me why in the hell the US EB-Games has it listed for $49.99 for the PC version, while the same company in Australia (EB-Games), has it listed for nearly double the price at $88 AUD (it was $78 yesterday)?

Our dollar is basically the same at the moment, at most we'd pay $1 more than the US...and there's no way there'd be any kind of shipping fee from the US for an extra $40 on something so small.

So what's the deal? Image IPB

This is true of most video games released in Australia from what I undertand from years on game forums. As I understand it from gamers it the same for music cds etc. So I wouldn't blame EB or Bioware and instead look to Austrailia as to why it charges more for media in general.

There are a few different things at play here. Firstly, the 'standard price' for a new game in many countries, including Australia, is out-of-date. For example, the Euro started out set equal to the dollar, as a result, the standard price of a game was 50 Euros. Of course, the Euro is now worth considerably more so Europeans pay more than Americans for the same games (though to be fair they also make development costs go up by legally mandating those awful dubs). In contrast, British prices were adjusted when the big change from roughly 2:1 to 1.5:1 in the pound-dollar exchange happened and are about 30 pounds, which is about equal to 50 dollars. It seems that the Austalian resellers have stuck with the old number value ignoring the change in actual value. The other issue of course is taxation, as rates vary in every country.

Okay economics ramble over.

Just a quick note that legally all we can do is suggest the retail price, including the upgrade to the signature edition - ultimately however, it is up to each retailer to set their own prices, and appears some are taking on the Signature Edition and charging extra for it similar to a collector's edition.

Please shop around and help your fellow community members if you spot good deals.

I just ordered through Blockbuster Denmark, and they had a very fair price, and a guarantee that pre-orders are upgraded to Signature Edition

Just pre ordered my PC copy from Amazon (in the UK) the normal edition is currently listed at £30 for PC and just under £40 for console (PS3/360).

whilst the signature edition is listed at just under £35 for PC users the same price for the normal edition for PS3 users and a rather expensive £47.64 for the 360 users.

There was a thing on a current affair about this sort of thing. What is happening is retailers are NOT passing on the better deals even though our dollar is doing good atm so most are buying over seas and getting it cheaper even with shipping. I admit I buy a lot from overseas for this reason. Businesses are just being freaking greedy.
oh here just for proof as on currency converter
$44.00 US is $44.60 AU

Unless you mean at a physical store, it IS up on their Canadian site.

For people in the UK, Amazon (as mentioned above) are charging (atm) over £47 but if you go to Game and Gamestation they are now offering the Signature Edition for £39.99 on PS3 and 360 and for  £29.99 for PC no deposit required, payment is taken shortly before dispatch!
Much more palatable since I have to buy 4 copies of the game................ :o:D

Can I ask, more strangely, why the Ea store price is 10 dollars more than everywhere else?

Oh great. Amazon Germany offers the Signature Edition at 54.99 €, the standard edition at 46.90 €. I guess they didn't get the "at no extra cost" memo.

They didn't get it over at Amazon.co.uk either.

Dragon Age 2 (PC DVD) RRP: £34.99
Dragon Age 2 - Signature Edition (PC DVD) RRP: £39.99

I e-mailed Amazon.de customer service and their answer was that the signature edition isn't more expensive - it's the standard edition that's offered at such a low price, that it only looks like the SE is more expensive, when really, the higher price is totally reasonable. You see? It's all logical! </sarcasm>

Well, what I find logical is that I'll buy at play.com, which offers the game for £29.99 with free shipping to Germany. That's around 36 Euros. That's even better than amazon.de's low priced 46.90 € for the non-SE version!

This should be at the suggested retail price - basically we can't undercut retailers, nor can we force them to take a price (this is due to laws around price fixing, etc).

So my understanding is that retailers can go up/down from the suggested price, but we need to sell at the suggested price to start with.

so i have to preorder to unlock stuff that already on the disk. not cool bioware

No, you'll have to pre-order if you want to get the bonus content that's NOT included on any disc with the standard edition on launch day. And even the bonus content has to be downloaded from here once the codes included with the Signature Edition are activated.

This is what EA says on their "EA Press" official website

Leading
video game developer BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc.
(NASDAQ:ERTS), announced today the Dragon Age™ II BioWare Signature
Edition. This limited edition of the highly anticipated action RPG will
be available at no extra cost for gamers who pre-order Dragon Age II
before January 11, 2011

Still, they charge +10 dollars more for the PC buyers. I'm wondering if you can take this issue up with the Better Business Beureau.

Recap for Finns who've yet to pre-order:

Verkkokauppa.com has the lowest pre-order prices for the Dragon Age II Signature Edition in Finland at the moment (the Åland-based pre-order options).

Links:
Dragon Age II Signature Edition, PC, 36.40€ (incl. shipping) @ Verkkokauppa.com
Dragon Age II Signature Edition, PS3, 43.40€ (incl. shipping) @ Verkkokauppa.com
Dragon Age II Signature Edition, Xbox 360, 43.40€ (incl. shipping) @ Verkkokauppa.com

A cautionary example of price gouging: PelaajanValinta.fi

Right now they're selling the PS3 version of DA II Signature Edition for 84.90€(!) Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere.

I just pre-ordered. Looking forward to it. Only downside is, I ordered online, and even with overnight shipping, there's another day processing time, so I probably won't see my copy until two or three days after release.

*sigh*

Ah, well, I'll probably just play a buddy's copy for those couple days.

Will the signature edition be avaliable for preorder on steam? I have Dragon Age:O and Awakening there already and would be nice to have all games at the same place.

My retailer just informed me that the Signature Edition will not be available in English in my country (Switzerland). Do they ship only the localized versions? If so, why? DAO, ME2 could be installed in English as well, and it was great. Kind of disappointing, because now I'll have to pre-order the imported regular English version without the bonus content. =(

Could you try play.com? They have it

They list Switzerland as one of the countries they deliver to! :) And I believe it is only £40 on there (not sure what that converts to, but it is a good price here in the UK)
