I use PayPal now and then and never had a problem with it. To bad not a lot of sites support PayPal.

It worked great with the Bioware store. To bad that the shipping cost are way out there (to ship it to the EU) and that I still had to pay import taxes when I got it

I checked the UK sites 'we' could order the Signature Edition from.
Only credit-card payment method.

Plus, it'd take 3-5 days to get here....which is not that pre-orderish :P you'll get it 3-5 days later then the people who get it from the shops.

I order most of my games from the UK these days, delivery tends to be closer to 2-3 days than 3-5 days, unless there's a weekend in the middle (like, when it's dispatched on friday, it won't arrive before tuesday). So when I order something on monday morning or early afternoon, I generally get it wednesday afternoon already. If they dispatch it on thursday (so ordered thursday morning/afternoon), it's generally a close call. It might arrive on saturday, but it might also take till tuesday (TNT in the Netherlands doesn't deliver packages on mondays, except for attempts of re-delivery if the previous delivery failed because there was nobody home.)

The DA2 dispatch estimate at amazon.co.uk is set to March 9, which is a wednesday. As long as they deliver it on time at the UK mail (and big companies usually do), it will most probably arrive on friday March 11, or in case of bad luck, it would be saturday March 12. Which is still fine in my book, I'll still have most of the weekend to install and play it then :)

But now I'm wondering if play.com accepts non-UK debit cards. Same for gamestation and game.co.uk.

I know play accepts non-uk credit cards, since a (also Dutch) friend of me used it for ordering.

And well, I've got a nice paying 40-hours a week job, and I still don't want to waste money on a credit card  Yup, the Dutch system is weird... Same with the lovely artificially high mortgage interest... +/- 5% here, elsewhere in EU... 3 - 4%.... 1% on 250.000 euro (average price for a house) is an easy made 2500 euro... bloody banks :crying:

Makes sense, I guess. Almost every credit card functions like a universal credit card.

I just hate it that non-UK (or non-USA; whatever you like) aren't always supported. Why the heck do I need for eaxmple a UK-based debit card when I have a non-UK debit card that is otherwise the same as a UK-based one?

@ Whacka: didn't someone already try a non-UK debit card to order and couldn't? I'm asking because I think it takes us back to the beginning of the discussion of payment. Technically, as far as I'm concerned, if you have the Visa or Mastercard sign (or whatever the store accepts) they should be able to process it (but that's not to say they do). Otherwise the symbol is a bit defunct really. I'm starting to wonder if there are online stores that use other payment systems (WorldPay or GoogleCheckout). Might have a hunt to see if there are.

And for a change I'm glad that being in the UK is an advantage rather than being a handicap (sorry if that sounds gloaty), because European consumers often get the worst deals around the world.

I gotta ask... What's "chip-knip"?!? Image IPB

A chip-knip is a dutch thing (I think). Its like electronic cash. On every debit card there is a chip where you can put money on from you bank account. This money you can then spend the same way like cash (whel you need a machine to reduce the ammount of money on the chip). The advantige used to be that to pay this way you don't need an connection to the bank (like with an atm or the use of a debit card in stores). Nowday's that connection can be mobile so its not that a big advantage anymore

It's called Minicash, at least in the rest of Europe. Just put some money on your debit card's chip and pay with it. No need to input your code. Quick and fast, I like it very much.

Honestly, I have no idea.

I'm starting to wonder if there are online stores that use other payment systems (WorldPay or GoogleCheckout).

As far as I know, there isn't any online store out there that not only offers the SE, but also uses alternative payment methods (like the ones you mentioned).

So... with no "code", how do you prevent a transaction from "accidently" taking everything stored on the chip?  And how could you prove it wasn't legitimate after the fact?

(I'm already presuming this system had to require inserting the card into a special device, and not a contact-less proximity pad.  Otherwise, one could just run a reader along peoples' bags and trousers in a crowded metro or city bus and collect the cash. Image IPB )

@ Whacka: yeah, I see what you mean. I had a little hunt to see if I could find any. Not a great deal of luck (not sure why I bother actually seeing I live in the UK and don't have a problem....) Ever heard of CDWow? I think they accept iDeal looking at those little symbols, but price seems really high (77 Euros) and no sign of SE. (Oddly the UK branch accepts Google Checkout but not the Netherlands branch...)

I would like to suggest that forum users name sites that do accept alternative payments in the hope that should the SE become available then our fellow forum users have a list to refer to.

I stick to digital downloads now ever since I ordered a black edition of Assassin's Creed 2 from play.com which supposedly had free shipping. Not only did it arrive over 6 weeks late but I nearly got a heart attack when I saw the import taxes I had to pay when it finally did arrive. Apparantly customs here has a huge back log which caused the delay because Dutch TNT Post now thinks it necessary to declare all packages at customs. Apparantly they get money for it. Before, if you were lucky, your package might just get past customs without having to pay import taxes. I really hope there aren't any high import taxes on that lithograph I ordered from BW :/

Ouch... I wouldn't put even €1.00 on such a device.  Too easy for the bad guys to target it and expect that most people just wouldn't notice, or would decide that it "wasn't worth it" to complain if funds went missing.

Minicash is just like cash: do not lose your card, do not lose your wallet.

If you have your debit card stolen, the amount of minicash stored on it will be the least of your worries.

I like it cause it's quicker and more convenient than counting out banknotes adn I don't have to carry around half a kilo worth of coins. And that is not an exageration, it has happened to me...

And that's also how the chip-knip system turned out to be one huge epic failure (though the chip-knip system IS useful in many ways. But I always seem to lose my stuff so it's not very practical for me).

I can pre-order Dragon Age 2 through Gamemania (a Dutch gaming store site, FYI (even the best gaming store in the Netherlands)), but so far I haven't gotten any response of them (or at least, not from the local Gamemania store).

For some reason, I think they accidentally on purpose hit the delete button.

Gaider also told us that the Dutch branch of EA Store should have the SE up for pre-ordering. But so far, his words only seemed to be a pack of lies.

And if mediamarkt allows pre-ordering in a different country, then why can't we pre-order it from there?

Bah. All this commotion makes me think of the following: "Capitalism is a dirty business." The first time I actually agree with Niko...

All stores in the EU are required by law to give out a receipt for each transaction. Just check the amount which is withdrawn when you do your purchase.

Yes, you do have to insert the card in to special device, because it's physically impossible to access the chip from a distance, the technology simply does not work that way.

I found a pretty good deal for those who want to get DA2 digital copy for the PC.

First, head over to Direct2Drive

Then add the 59.95 dollar DA2 sig edition to your cart. In your cart, paste this promo code: bigsavings

and get 25% off! The end total is 44.96!

Act fast cause I think this will last only till the 9th, since it is a COD:Black Ops promotion. But me, I'm still waiting on my boxed DA2 from Amazon to go on sale :)

Ah, that explains a lot. I was already like Image IPB when I noticed the customs stamp on my DA:Ultimate edition when it  arrived...

Edit: apparently I got lucky there, since the value was 25 Euro... Not complaining ^^

Please beware Customs regulations:

Play.com ships from Jersey (please see point 36 of their terms). Please beware that, although it's a property of the British Crown, it is NOT part of the European Union... This means that, although you're ordering from play.co.uk (EU), the shipment will come from outside of the EU. If you would ship from within the EU, it wouldn't matter how much it's worth, you'll never pay more then the normal shipping costs.
So, how about importing in the European Union?

- package is worth up to 22 euro (shipping and insurance doesn;t count): no customs duty, no VAT
- package is worth 22 - 150 euro: no customs duty, but you'll have to pay VAT (and usually your postal company will charge you an aditional fee for their customs declarations)
- package is worth more then 150 euro: you'll have to pay customs duty + VAT (and the same postal fee).

So... don't buy for more then 21,99 euro if you don't want an extra bill... Unless play would be willing to name the package 'gift' or 'sample', since those won't be charged for customs.

And now I notice that I've forgotten to read those terms when I ordered DA:2, so I'll probably get an extra bill to pay ... bloody TNT, if it isn't the vendor charging extra , it's the mailman Image IPB  Hmm... I hope that the SE won't count as a package... if it does, it's 18 euro, if it's considered to be a 'letter', then it's 'only' 3 euro. See, there's a good thing about the SE only having digital goodies Image IPB

BTW: the lithograph should have 0% import duty, since it's a paper poster. However, prepare for 19% VAT :( And greedy TNT... Might be an extra 30 euro to pay for an order of about 50 euro value...

I think the retail SE edition comes with and installation dvd... inside a bulky box so  I doubt it would count as a letter.

So...is there also going to be a Collector's Edition? 'Cause I don't want to preorder this one and then find out later that I'd rather have the C.E. that costs $10 more but has even more stuff.

I've been wondering that myself.  Especialy with the recent reelase of the Ultimate Edition of DA:O.

I held out this long before I even considered getting the first game.  I wonder if I should wait just as long on the sequel.

Just because you do not see your favorite store or country listed does not mean it is excluded. It just means we haven't updated the page yet. Check with yur local preferred retailer or online vendor to be sure.

Oh and:

THIS IS THE COLLECTOR's EDITION

After January 11, 2011 people will still be able to buy Dragon Age 2, but it will be a standard copy without all the cool free stuff included in the Signature Edition.

So get to ordering. Image IPB

That statement makes the presumption that the Netherlands operates as a Capitalist society.

Since it seems to be one of the very few EU countries with DA2-SE  pre-order problems, (and a banking system that makes the default retail payment transfer system in use OUTSIDE the country less than practical for many) one might be tempted to think... otherwise.

I only learned how recently, but filtering long threads for just the BioWare posts is a grat time saver. It only works when you start from the "Forum Home", and select the Forum you wnat.  When the list of threads appears, the blue "BioWare" logo under the title is a link that will display ONLY the posts by BioWare staff.

Great time saver for getting the answer to many questions! Image IPB
