Steam is not the only one being excluded from the SE edition. It looks like EA made only deals with a very select few distributors for the SE edition. I would think that steam pre-orders will be only available after 11 January.

They usually wait till the very last moment to put it up on Steam.  Same thing happened with ME2 they put it like 2 weeks before the game went live.  I bet they put DA2 on Steam early January.

Little do they realize the Steam people will wait for it on Steam anyway, and these little tricks won't work.

EA would be utterly stupid not to put it on steam prior to 11/1. I want it on steam but if its not there say 10/1 I'm getting it on Impulse but I won't be happy about it.

I really want to order this edition but I'm currently in Beijing on family matters and cannot order through US outlets. All I get is Hong Kong.

Yikes! I will be back but JUST barely before 1/11/11!

Maybe they will save me a copy???

Personnaly I will not buy it from any place other than Steam, so the only thing they accomplish with this deplorable tactic is alienating a potential customer.

If, against all expectations, the SE does not eventually become available on Steam then Bioware/EA/... will lose me as a customer. I'd rather not play DA2/ME3 than encourage with my money such despicable manipulations. <_<

Exactly. Numbnumb you can just preorder now from any US retailer and you will not be charged for it. When you get back to the US, you can pick it up in March.

I wish they didnt play chicken with the steam release. Steam is my preffered store for PC games. If it is not there by new years I dont know what I will do.

Exactly. Numbnumb you can just preorder now from any US retailer and you will not be charged for it. When you get back to the US, you can pick it up in March.

  Actually I have tried to order through the EA store but the web page comes up in chinese and in Yuen in HK dollars.  Same for the other sites.  I think it has something to do with my current location on the internet since I'm using a computer that is on the chinese internet in Beijing.   Believe me I have tried!

It's quite simple really: most webstores do not accept credit card payments by internet if your current IP does not match the country in which the credit card was issued. It's a protective feature. So someone with a USA credit card would not be able to buy anything if he has a chineese IP adress. You can always try a proxy but that is VERY risky and I do not recommend it.

A personal example: I could not buy Bioware points because my IP adress was not recognised as belonging to the country where the credit card was issued. I had to use a trusted friend's internet connection to get my dlc. I really should have waited for the Ultimate Edition, cheaper and all-in-one...

@Dreadz; Ahhhh, interesting. While I have used my credit cards internationally, I guess I've never tried to do so for an on-line purchase outside my home country.

Did you try with a different retailer? I'm sure if you try a store like Best Buy the US site should pop up. You know there's another way actually if that does not work out. Have you ever used a VPN before? It basically fools the internet into thinking you are connecting from a different location. There is this service called Hotspot Shield that I know for a fact lets you connect for free and it is based in New Jersey. So if you use HSS from where you are, the EA store will think you are from New Jersey and let you pre-order the game. I have not tried purchasing through a VPN before, but I know that it is 100% secure and reliable.
