Has anyone heard anything about a collectors edition being released?

If you search this very thread for the term "collectors edition" I think you get over 25 hits.  ALL telling you the exact same thing as (Evil) Chris Priestly's (admittedly, buried on page 7) post:  The SE IS  the CE!.

QFT:

As I have said, we are updating our page with retailers as we get confirmation from the retailers that their pre-order page is ready. Just because you do not see your favorite store or country listed does not mean it is excluded. It just means we haven't updated the page yet. Check with yur local preferred retailer or online vendor to be sure.

Oh and:

THIS IS THE COLLECTOR's EDITION

After January 11, 2011 people will still be able to buy Dragon Age 2, but it will be a standard copy without all the cool free stuff included in the Signature Edition.

So get to ordering. Posted Image

I would like to echo my fellow Steam gamers concerning DA2 availablity on Steam. It would be nice to at least get some feedback about if it is in negotiations or a no go all together.

I understand the Bioware team is not responsible for the final decision in regards to Dragon Age 2 being on Steam, however an acknowledgement of concern please? Even if it is to say "We don't have any info on it at this time" would be appreciated.

Personally, without communication on DA2's availablity on Steam I will wait til Jan 10th to decide if I am willing to purchase from another download site.

Not being a Steam user, I'm curious...  Why aren't users of their service bugging THEM  about getting DA2?

Publishers decide which games are available on Steam....well unless they are Valve titles for obvious reasons.

They usually wait till the very last moment to put it up on Steam.  Same thing happened with ME2 they put it like 2 weeks before the game went live.  I bet they put DA2 on Steam early January.

Little do they realize the Steam people will wait for it on Steam anyway, and these little tricks won't work.

Personnaly I will not buy it from any place other than Steam, so the only thing they accomplish with this deplorable tactic is alienating a potential customer.

If, against all expectations, the SE does not eventually become available on Steam then Bioware/EA/... will lose me as a customer. I'd rather not play DA2/ME3 than encourage with my money such despicable manipulations. <_<

If it is not on Steam by 1/11/11 I will just buy the GOTY Edition when it comes on Steam.  I will have to wait but I don't mind.

If you check Steam's Dragon Age forums people are asking the same question.

There is a general community feel that EA is trying to migrate away from Steam because they have to pay to put their game on Steam. But that is speculation as no one is speaking on either side. Not surprising if they are in discussions etc but it would be nice to get the "We can't discuss" on either side at least so we know to just give up instead of stonewalling.

By not putting the game on Steam and staying silent on the subject you force consumers to decide (look at the frenzy of Steam users on this thread alone) if they will migrate to another service, wait and hope it comes to steam, or not get the game at all. Personally I'm willing to wait to the day before the last day to get the Sig edition to decide. I respect Valve's stance on not bowing to and catering to Publishers demands and sticking to their guns on DRM and pirating issues which are primarily aimed solely at the PC consumers(which includes EA's 3 install DRM in other games). So it comes down to the belief of "speaking with my dollars" to support the method of purchase I prefer.

Ahhhh, thanks for the additional info.

But if you really are willing to "speak with your dollars", does that mean you would be willing to pay MORE (whatever amount Steam charges the publishers) to get it this way than through other methods?  I don't think EA cares all that much about the channel, as long as whatever it is doesn't undercut their own pricing.

Yeah, I have the boxed copy of DA:O and DA:A and bought all the DLC (minus Feastday) as soon as it came out but I'm looking to centralize most of my new games to Steam now so am really hoping for a Steam release, though judging by when the offer ends, it isn't looking very promising for the Signature Edition to appear on Steam. With Witcher 2, Two Worlds II, Gray Matter, Deus Ex 3, and some other good games coming out in 2011, I may also hold out for the GOTY Edition.

They are actually: check steam forums. Even so it's completely useless to beg Steam/Valve because they do not decide anything. It's EA/Bioware that have the rights to DA2 and who make the decision on which retailers/digital distributors can sell the game.

I'm honestly confused why EA is even interested in moving in the digital distribution scene: it is not all profit as it may seem to an outsider.

Consider the costs of maintainig servers and paying for bandwith: Steam has 30 million users, all of those users have the right to download their games an unlimited number of times, a lot of the newer games are 10-20GB and speeds have to be high(Most of the time I download at my max rate of 3mb/s). And Steam makes this all possible without requiring monthly subscription to its service.

Compare with WoW/Blizzard:11 million users, they have a monthly subscription yet they rely mostly on torrents to distribute their game clients ( and speed is consistently low as a consequence ).

Meanwhile EA barely manages to provide public servers for their own multiplayer games... and we are supposed to trust them to be a quality digital distribution service !

Anyone interested in a digital version might also want to consider D2D with 15% off from christmas promo codes.

Both .com and .co.uk seems to have this offer.

Correction: If you are in the US you can use the 25% promo code (bahhumbug), bringing the price down to $45 on Direct2Drive.

co.uk is however 15% bringing it down to £30.

The offer ends tomorrow.

So if I buy this game from some other venue, will I still be able to upload my game decisions from the Steam version of DA:Origins to it?

Yeah, i dont see a reason why it shouldn't work.
They will most likely use the same system as Mass Effect 2 in the Utility launcher, where you just pick the directory where your save games is stored.

If it does check for save games automatic (wich i doubt) then there shouldn't be a problem either, since all save games are stored in the same spot no-mather the formate, digital or retail.

A local shop in The Netherlands now also has the SIgnature Edition on their website, however they aren't on your Dragon Age 2 pre order page. Does this mean that they are wrong with their information or do you simply not add all the retailers you are working with?

I heard back from our EU Team.

We have been assured that the SE will be available market wide in the Netherlands (so all stores just like we have always said). We have pushed the retailers to update their websites and better inform their staff about this.

So yes you should get the Signature Edition if you order it at that shop

Thicos, Game.co.uk has "Rest of World" shipping, and Brazil is in the list of countries that they ship to. I'm positive that you will be able to get your signature edition copy from there. It costs 24.99 pounds for the game and 4.95 pounds for shipping to Brazil (or any other listed country).
