In fact I feel more ownership with my digital copy of Mass Effect than my friend does his hard copy of it because he used up EA's 3 install limit and now its useless..

EA got rid of that in the hard copy as well.  In fact, I don't even have to have Mass Effect disc in the drive to play it (and I didn't even have to download a no-cd crack)..

Not quite true, you know what is still in the game but the latest patch allows you to revoke the activation of the game (but for some silly and crazy reason the BdtS & Pinnacle Station dlc are unrevokable <_<).

Revoke what?  Sorry but I didn't understand your post.

If you're implying that I need to have the disc in the drive to play the BdtS DLC, that's not the case at all.  I can't speak for Pinnacle Station as it didn't seem worth a purchase.

Sorry I should have explained a bit better.
You dont need the disc to play the game once installed, what I meant was the limited activations of securom are still active in the game and are only revoked as per the ea revoke tool or uninstalled (as per the last couple of patches), the downside is that the dlc has unrevokable limited activations <_<

Ah.  Not quite.  Per Wikipedia:

Wikipedia wrote...

In May 2008, EA announced that Mass Effect for the PC would be using SecuROM 7.x requiring a reactivation of the software every 10 days.[13] Due to complaints, EA removed the 10-day activation while keeping SecuROM tied to the installation. SecuROM's product activation facility was still used to impose a limit of three times that a customer is allowed to activate the copy of Mass Effect once purchased. The game becomes unplayable "as is" after the activations are used up, until EA's customer support is contacted to reset the activation limit. Unlike BioShock, uninstalling the game does not refund a previously used activation.[14] More recent versions of Mass Effect on budget prices (those available on EA classics) have SecuROM omitted.

I have one of said budget releases with SecuROM totally omitted.  So no EA Revoke Tool necesarry.

However, I'll take your word on the DLC issue.  It's a shame if true.

Just wanted to thank Bioware and EA for not allowing me to purchase the Signature Edition. Not that I ever would purchase it there but it's not even available on the EA store in my current country. Thanks!

You can drop "BioWare" from your list of those to thank.  EA is in sole control of their games' distributon channels.
There are plenty of sources for the SE.  If you want to pre-order, find one.  And the problem of not being available locally (especailly on-line) is usually with the laws/requirements in the customer's country.  EA wants to sell as many copies as possible AT A PROFIT.  If it can't work-out an appropriate distribution agreement for your location, but IS able to do so for the locations of the overwhelming majority of its customers, I have to wonder where the real problem is.

Sounds to me like the situation in the Netherlands where having/using a true credit-card is expensive, and therefore, (apparently) much less common, and using on-line retailers outside the country difficult/impossible.  While that is a problem for some (small number of) Dutch players, I just don't see how that equals it being EA's problem...

Nah, I'll keep Bioware in there. I knew merging with EA was a bad idea and they should have picked a better partner/overlord. No, there aren't plenty of sources for some of us. D2D and Impulse are region locked for NA. I only want to purchase it digitally and my only option is Gamer's Gate's UK edition? Nah, I'll pass. They're a decent website but I get much better download speeds from Steam. I'll just purchase it ther...oh wait, it's EA being stupid again.

Real talk, the game doesn't even look all that impressive. Screwing certain customers out of a "free $20 upgrade" is the kind of shady tactic that keeps me away from certain companies and games.

So you do  have an option, you just don't want to use it.  Isn't that what I said in my post?

a)  Who is being "screwed" out of anything.  That verb would imply that someone had paid for something and then didn't get it.

B)  Why are you even posting here if you are "keep[ing] away from certain companies and games"?

They have posted that if you order in the Netherlands (even if you pre-order the normal edition) before 11-jan you should get the SE edition. They say that its just the websites not showing the SE edition. So no problem in the Netherlands (or at least there shouldn't be)

My wife and I are still on the fence about pre-odering for the auto-upgrade to signature edition. Reason being is because unless they ship the game to us via FedEx or UPS, we'd really prefer NOT to press our luck with "ground mail". Especially not around where we live. On more than one account we've had things "not show up" due to our postman's laziness and/or it being stolen before it even arrived at our house. Seeing as how it's a game, I'd like to assume that they will employ FedEx/UPS to get it to us, but until I know for 100% certain I think we'll probably just go with our old stand-by and pre-order it from Gamestop.

Another reason is because we're unsure if we'd actually be getting the game on the day it realeases. Meaning will they be shipping it to us prior to the 8th or will we have to wait a couple days after? Again, in that case, extras be damned, we'd rather just pre-order from gamestop that way we know we'll be getting it on the day 1 launch instead of day 2....4....8....16....24...or when it finally decides to show up on our doorstep lol.

okay guys and gals, I have an issue...I can't find the normal edition of DA2 to pre-order anymore.

Why this is...I don't know since the signature edition wasn't supposed to be available for pre-order till the 11th. So...how do I pre-order the standard edition so as to get the free upgrade?

TIA for any help. :D

And happy New Year guys.

Prior to 1/11/11, the Signature Edition is the Standard Edition.  After 1/11/11, all purchases of DA2 (wether they be pre-orders or purchases on release day) will be for the Standard Edition.

So...the signature edition is going to be more than 59.99 after the 11th? They're really going with 60 bucks for the standard edition? o.o

After the 11th, the Signature Editon  will not be available at all

The regular game will probably start out at USD59.99, since that's what most Tier-1 games have been going for on the console platforms for at least the past year.  EA (and others) are moving the price for the PC version to be the same.

Well that's retarded. Just because they price gouge the damn console players doesn't mean they need to do the same to the PC users. :D

Well I hope you know that even preordering in-store at Gamestop, you will still get the Signature Edition and everything it comes with. I just paid off my preorder at Gamestop a couple of weeks back and double confirmed with the people at the stores that it's the Signature Edition I am getting.

They never said that you HAD to preorder online in order to get the extras. Preordering in-store is just fine. Better actually. Gamestop will likely have a midnight launch for the game. ;)

In fact, (Evil) Chris has said repeatedly that ALL  pre-orders will AUTOMATICALLY  get the SE, (but to verify with your retailer if you have any doubts.)  Early in the thread BioWare provided a list of the retailers with whom they had already coordinated, (I'm sure GameStop was on it) and they've only added to it since.

@KendallX23;  What retailer? What country?  I believe you were someone who had problems finding a place locally (not on-line) to pre-order at all.

BioWare/EA can't MAKE  retailers honor the "automatic upgrade" offer.  But that's what they are shipping to fullfill those orders.  A reputable merchant will deliver that version to the customer.  An unscrupulous one will hold the SE copies and give the pre-order customers the standard version, then sell the SE ones at an (even more)  inflated price.

I'm pre-ordering this game today; between my best buy gift certificates I have enough to finally to pay the pre-order DAII at full price at one time, so I don't have to worry about coughing up the dough in March.

Between now and March I have ME1 and ME2 to play. I got an XBox for Xmas and picked them up on the cheap - $20 for both of them through Walmart.com. ME1 so far has been keeping me some what busy. I am about 22 hours into the game, level 25 and from what I can tell I still have a lot of space to explore.

Bioware is definitely one of my favorite developers. I just hope they don't Mass Effect DAII, when I say that I mean, I don't want DAII to be a first person shooter.

Sorry to hear that your local retailer is charging more for the SE, since it doesn't COST them any more when they get it from EA.  They are SUPPOSED to provide it to their pre-order customers at the same price they charge everyone else for the non-pre-order "standard edition".  But it's illegal (in this country) for publishers to try to "enforce" a merchant's final sales price.
