So, no DA2 SE on Steam at all then huh? Well that's just balls. No pre-order for me then, I do all my non-console game buying via Steam.
Just do what I will do, wait for 6 months and buy the Ultimate Edition for 25 bucks on Steam, if they decide to screw over Steam users.

No the Signature Edition offer will not be available through Steam. The only digital source for the Signature Edition is the EA Store and already listed retailers. Physcial copies are available at all retailers.
Edit: Misspoke.

That is nice. Cool to see companies play childish games with each other while screwing over loyal consumers in the process. All my PC gaming except MMOs is done on Steam I like having everything in one place instead of having 3-4 different digital distribution services. Nice to see EA throw a nice slap in the face here.
So now I will stick with what I had planned. Play other great games wait about 6-8 months and then buy the super duper Ultimate edition of DA2 on Steam for 25 bucks. Everyone wins.

This is not "childish games". Nor is this a "slap in the face" to anyone. EA and Valve are direct competitors.Sharuko wrote...

Would Burger King use McDonald's to sell "Whoppers"? Would Ford use GM to sell a "Mustang"? Not unless they had to!
Note that the SE is available in "digital-only" format, (for those who prefer it that way) through the EA Store, Direct2Drive, Impulse, Gamersgate, etc. It's just the OTHER game publisher's service that won't be offering it.
That EA used a distribution channel (or two) when they felt their own wasn't adequate is one thing. To expect that they will continue to provide a revenue stream for another company when they no longer have to...
Now that's childish!

Judging by the wording of the signature edition "preordering it gets $20 worth of items for free", I would say that sometime later on the dlc would be available to buy.dearlyblvd wrote...
Since I started earning my own money, I basically only bought games using Steam. StarCraft 2 is the only exception. I'm kinda disappointed that EA isn't releasing the signature edition of Dragon Age 2 on Steam, specially because I have ME1+ME2+DAO+DAA there.
The extra content will be available for purchase as DLC or just for the signature edition?

Except maybe the business deal didn't work out, so it's not being offered on Steam. You do understand how business works? Maybe you should stop throwing a hissy fit and try to act all tough by telling Bioware you won't buy it on the first day. Nobody cares. Whether or not you buy the game at all will not change this decision. You are not as important as you think you are.
Most likely you are just throwing down angry words to show how mad you are. We all know you'll preorder it so you can play it on day one.

We get it Bioware superfanboy / girl (?). Your reason of EA not supporting it's direct competition is moot as Direct2Drive, GamersGate AND Impulse are all forms of competition to EA. Considering that EA is PUBLISHING Portal 2 on the consoles, I'd say them and Valve have a closer relationship than just "competition." The irony is rich when not too long ago, EA was quite possibly the worst corporate entitiy in video game history. They're just mad Activitision stole all their thunder.
To the other superfanboy, sure I'll play it on day 1 and maybe sooner after I download the game from my favorite torrent site. I'm done paying for EA games.

Judging by what happened with DAO....
The DLC character and quest may be sold later separately, or even available for free with the standard edition, just as Shale was for DAO. The soundtrack should be available to purchase later on as well.
However, the digital armory of items you get with SE, will likely NOT be available to purchase later, as the CE only items were not available to purchase later on DAO.

A defective product is always a possibility, but plenty of Steam users are experiencing this exact problem with the DA:O UE, so that's not necessarily "solved" by using their service either.Inarborat wrote...

But "I don't trust/won't use merchant A", is a whole different issue than "No one sells the product I want."

And until you can show that you know the details of each of the distribution agreements between each of the parties for each of the games, then it seems to me that you have NO IDEA WHAT MAKES BUSINESS SENSE.
In any case, I am certainly more likely to see any business considerations from EA's perspective than an admitted pirate's.

First, I wasn't talking to you. Secondly, you cared enough to respond to me. Third, I as a consumer have every right to complain about something I don't agree with. It isn't only me complaining but many other people.
It is funny you got so upset over what I said to BioWare. How about you mind your own business and stop acting like you are a rep for BioWare. I stated my opinion not to be attacked by some random posters. I will not pre-order the game and will not play it day one. As I said it is important that I have all my PC games on Steam. You might not care, but I do.
And please don't tell me not to voice my opinion, I will voice my opinion whenever I please. I am usually positive but we need to hear both positive and negative feedback.
PS: I don't think you understand what "angry words" mean.

Almost every single recent BioWare and EA game is on Steam. If they were such massive competitors none of BioWare's games would be on Steam.
The fact is Steam is the giant in the Digital distribution business, and it would be silly to ignore them. I am sure DA2 will be on Steam at release, but we do not get the Signature's Edition.
The funny thing is you should be on my side. There is no reason this should not be on Steam, the only reason you are saying it is because you are agreeing with the company line.

They have already said it a MILLION times. The Signature Edition IS the Collector's Edition, period. This question is getting really annoying. Why doesn't anyone LISTEN?

No, I don't necessarily agree with "the company line", in the sense of that being my perference.Sharuko wrote...
... The funny thing is you should be on my side. There is no reason this should not be on Steam, the only reason you are saying it is because you are agreeing with the company line.
I simply have no patience with "fans' who presume to understand the video/computer gaming industry's business model(s), actual production prorcess and distribution agreements, pricing and revenue streams, and claim to someow know better than the companies actually doing the work what's "right" for them.
Or with the "fans" who tout Steam as the best form of game software distribution, claiming that Valve is somehow "better" than any other channel. First of all, as my actual reading (and posting) of the Steam EULA shows, Valve has not guaranteed anything at all about the games you purchase from them. They can cancel your account/access, shut-down their servers, stop allowing/supporting any title, any time. And all at their option. Your recourse is limited to a "prorated refund of any subscription price for the unused portion of your subscription period." That's it!
And as far as allowing "unlimited access to 'my' Steam games for as many downloads as I want..." Besides being an obvious means by which EA (and other publishers) are LOSING sales through the sharing of Steam accounts between multiple individuals, that's only in accordance with the specific distribution agreement between Valve and a game's publisher. Perhaps EA was perfectly willing to allow Steam to distribute DA2 IF they did not allow multiple, unquestioned, downloads. And perhaps Valve wasn't willing to operate that way, and so the two firms couldn't come to an agreement. Happens all the time in the real, business world.
I guess we just don't agree on this. And the "truth" is inherently unknowable, since regardless of what the figures turn-out to be, no one will ever know whether, (for example) the sales revenue (or more importantly, to EA, the profit on the revenue) lost to those who really do "refuse to purchase because it wasn't on Steam" is made up by either "the higher margins on the other digital distribution channels", or by "more actual sales through the reduction in unauthorized copies (piracy) by Steam account holders to people who now buy the game for themselves."
So EA (at least for DA2 pre-orders) isn't going to use Steam. Obviously it's a business decision, obviously it's based on "what they know and think they know", and obviously it's subject to change as more "becomes known". We'll see, won't we?
