Well it'd be kinda silly seeing chickens in spacesuits running around all over the place.
However, looking at what BioWare has done in the past, I think I trust their art department enough not to make the birdmen all too silly.
Might even be slightly awesome with a little luck...
I wouldn't equate the Kenku to chickens in spacesuits.. Nor would I say the Kenku are silly-looking. I mean, if a humanoid with a crow's head is silly to you, and all the other things in the Mass Effect universe ranging from blue-skinned monosexed aliens with tentacle fringes, slug-people, raptor-bird men, rhino-reptile men, hyper-allergic people trapped inside of enviromental suits, fat hobbits with asthma in enviro-suits, serene jellyfish people, their lizardmen servants, and quadpedal elephant-men aren't considered even a little bit silly too, then I find your sense of imagination to be rather strange and inconsistent.

AD&D's Fiend Folio has something called an Arrakoa (sp?) that pre-dates those.

I'm thinking more like the Firekka from Wing Commander.
Do you think the Reapers prefer Original Recipe or Extra Crispy?
You win the entire Internet for even knowing about this reference.

Wow....old school. Yeah, the Arrakoa were essentially Skeksis. Got me dusting off my AD&D books.

I'm actually hoping for a race that's markedly different from humanoids, like the Elcor or Hanar. Any technologically advanced race will need to have some means of manipulating objects, of course, but the Raloi could be a truly avian race who have wings, but no arms, and manipulate objects with prehensile feet. (Heck, maybe they have 3 or 4 feet!)

Of course, the laws of physics being what they are, it's unlikely that the Raloi will be capable of flight in a normal gravity environment if they're as large as humans, which means that either their homeworld is naturally low-gravity (which would result in them needing to wear pressure suits in most places), or the Raloi are much smaller in size than other sentient races, even smaller than the Volus.

Then again, maybe the Raloi are flightless avians like the Ostrich... GAH! Too many variables, too many variables!
Gravity wouldn't necessarily mean that they couldn't fly, during the time of the dinosaurs there was a pterosaur called Quetzalcoatlus which was the size of a giraffe and fully capable of flight. They are also said to be in enviro-suits like the Quarians almost because of an outbreak of some sort of bird flu. I personally like how this artist portrays them, they are the represented by the person in the middle.
